  • I found even more stuff on my second dig at this colonial NH cellar hole out in the woods. I went back to the old deserted homesite with my Fisher F19 metal detector and right away started locking on to targets quickly. This old site from the 1700s is just a small hole in the ground at this point with a stone pile from the chimney stack. I was digging up dandy buttons, shoe buckles & other relics easily because this spot was untouched and had never been metal detected before. No doubt all the artifacts I was finding confirmed it was all 1700s. A fascinating place built by one of the early New Hampshire settlers sometime in the mid to Late 1700s. A small property with very Little Rock walls and land not improved upon. It is a rear thing these days to find spots that are virgin and have never been metal detected so this is really exciting and made for a week of great metal detecting history.

Those woods must've been incredible with giant trees and acres of scrub two hundred years ago...
It's evident those days are long gone.
What's left seems to be little scrubby trees and ground Moss with ferns..
Thanks for reminding me of bygone days and the incredibly tough settlers who survived there...
    Be Blessed...

Was that Sam Squanch at 3:09 thumping a log against a tree, as they are want to do when they have intruders ? You might make friends with him if you'd leave a six-pack of cold ones for him. If it's gone when you come back to the site, keep doing it. He'll figure out twist off caps pretty quick and start to look forward to your visits. After a while, he'll be hanging out at the shack, smoking stogies, drinking beer and going full Harry and the Hendersons. He'd be like Lu, only more bigly, eh?

@@NotThursday Thanks, I was up from 1am to 4am doing research. I just located 4 more sites on private land close to the one I had last month where we dug the Farthing, Hibernia, and Draped bust, and got their names and phones. Going to give them a call Today and see if I can get permissions. I am finding out the sites on private land have so much more to offer. So that is what I am focusing on now. I am finding so many in this one small very old area. It is so awesome. Really keeps me going. Thanks again Bud for all you do. Take Care & Stay Safe.

Charlie, I have been watching your video's for years. The question I have is, with all the dandy buttons you all have found over the years, have you ever compared the different designs on the dandy buttons. I know that you all have found dandies at the same sight that match, but have you compared the buttons from different sights to see if you have a match from another site. I guess I'm wondering if there was a local maker or could they have been bought in say, a mercantile store when they went into town to buy supplies. I ask this because it seems that many of the designs are the same or almost the same. Thank you again for taking us on your journey. I look forward to them every day. Tell mom and Jen I said hi and keep them girls safe.

I wonder if it was the school master's house. In eastern CT they were given a small house with the job. The town would have raised the small house but wouldn't have been interested in making improvements to the land. The house across the road from me is on the land that was the school masters house in the 1700s. It had less than 1/2 acre of land with it at that time. Good Luck, Rick

I have also wanted to get into this as a hobby. Metal detecting would be an amazing thing to get into with my daughter to help build our relationship.
With your site and the layout of this house. I'm starting to think with all the designs of the buttons, buckles, etc. I think he had some wealth. When you say you didn't find coin, he may have invested in goldsmith banking. Yes, I know this started in London. In my studies, I haven't found that it was or wasn't practiced in the Americas in the 17th century. Anyone know different? Please show me where you found your information.
