    When I first started taking golf seriously I wanted to model the best swing. I got Hogan’s modern fundamentals and studied it. I remember the ‘brace the right leg, coil your body to store up the power like a dynamo’ (with a drawing like a power station winding up a generator)
    I kept slicing.
    Many years later I found your channel and what I now know as stack and tilt. The right leg has to be free to straighten to allow a full hip turn. But I couldn’t shake the thought ‘but Hogan said keep it braced!’
    Thank you for proving there was a gap in Hogan communicating what he FELT from what he DID. It’s not that he lied, but he didn’t have access to cameras like we do on our phones.
    He started out with a braced right leg, but it straightened and turned just like you do with stack and tilt.
    This was a most excellent video. Well researched and with great diagrams.
    Thank you for being a good teacher.

    I have Hogans Five Lessons, and have probably read the book through 10X, and referred to it a 100X or more. My local pro and his sons teach the Hogan swing at their golf academy, and I have taken numerous lessons from them. However, this is the most comprehensive and easy to understand review of the book, and the fundamentals of the swing, I have ever seen or heard. These lessons are $175 per hour at the local Hogan swing golf academy, and I am sure it would take 10-12 in person sessions to to digest what you explained in less than 30 minutes. Just outstanding Tom. Seriously. 💪⛳

      Wow, Dennis - you are far too kind, and I sincerely appreciate your generous and validating words!! I'm very glad to know that this episode aided in your understanding of Hogan, and now that you are armed with this knowledge I hope you are able to use it to the betterment of your game.
      As referenced in the video, much of Mr. Hogan's "Five Lessons" book was about his "feels" as opposed to what he actually did, and this led to many misguided interpretations. Once the "feel vs. real" aspects are fully understood, there is then great instructional value to be garnered.
      Thank you again for your message and support!!

      Fantastic! I appreciate you sharing your game-changing improvement!!
      By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. The value in terms of what you get for the low price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.
      And as mentioned in my previous reply, if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that is delivering the referenced results.
      One does not need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.
      Thanks again for your message and keep up the great work!!

      Consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of modern “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, and I'm thrilled to learn of your resulting improvement and enjoyment!!

    I can confirm from the direct evidence of my golf game (my scores and the quality of my shots) that this teaching leads to consistent strikes resulting in dramatic gains in distance and accuracy. It is beyond fun to be able to pull a mid to long iron on most of the par 4's I play and hit the fairway from the Tee, almost totally removing the possibility of anything worse than a bogey on the hole. I usually make at least 1 birdie in 18 holes, but have made up to 4 or more. And, usually if I make worse than bogey, it is almost exclusively a management mistake or a fault in my short game (where I have loads of room for improvement). Oh yeah, I still mess around with the old "shift right and load the right side" because I am human (and golf is fun when one tries different things sparingly) but it always ends up in the same result that it has for the past 50 years of playing golf: 1 "good" result in 10 to 50 swings. Once I committed to actually practicing and doing Tom Saguto's method, I went from shooting in the low to mid 80's to easily breaking 80 and sometimes scaring par...😊 That's what makes golf fun!!!

    I've been following this and Hogan videos in general. I've dropped 7-9 shots overall. One item to note is pivoting on the front leg. For me originally, it made me fire my right hip forward, creating a hook and poor contact. While rotating the hips with the torso or pulling the left hip away from the ball cured those issues and amazing contact. Thanks Tom! Keep creating this content!

      I’m very glad to know that my Hogan instruction is resonating with you, Nick; excellent job incorporating it into your swing!
      Mr. Hogan delivered phenomenal and timeless instructional value, right?! But there are just so many misconceptions about his swing out there - particularly within the realm of misunderstood or misapplied instruction - that have sadly relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration. I'm doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness by taking what Mr. Hogan conveys in the “Five Lessons” book as his "feels", applying it to the reality of what he actually did in his swing, and translating it into something we all can learn well from. Because if we can get Hogan right there are tremendously effective swing keys to be garnered.

    13:30 how do you add the hip tilt that Ben has as opposed to turning and have level hips?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  41 хвилина тому

      It all begins with a proper setup that facilitates an effortless 45 degrees of tilted hip turn, and this is accomplished as follows: We should feel evenly balanced between heel and toe in both feet. This balance is achieved by first setting our knees over the toes (or at least over the toe end of our shoelaces) to activate the ground connection, and then pushing our butt out to incline the hips and chest so that a relationship with the ball is established (in other words, from a down the line view your belt buckle should be angled downward and not level to the ground). The arms hang down naturally from the shoulders with all clubs except the driver, for which we push them out an inch or so to encourage more of the around-the-body motion needed for that lengthy shaft.
      From there, if you execute the simple feel of pointing your lead shoulder towards the ball while keeping your head in place, your trail leg should straighten, your lead knee should flex, and you hips will rotate on that inclined axis.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  День тому +1

      As an example, I was using JumboMax Ultralite grips in extra-large for much of 2022 and the first part of 2023. I had wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. I personally liked the feel as well as how they helped to keep my hands quiet through the zone.
      Now, having said that, I purchased a new set of PXG's in the spring of 2023, and since they didn't carry the Jumbo's in-house I went with their largest available stock grip, which was a midsize. I absolutely love the clubs, and I'm putting the factory grips through the playing test before deciding whether or not to have them regripped. There are no issues with the Jumbos and I still really like the way they feel; that's just where I'm at presently.
      The Jumbos are not necessarily for everyone - and my fingers are a bit longer than average - so I routinely tell folks to "try before you buy." However, having a properly sized grip that feels both comfortable and secure is critically important as it is our only connection to the object that is going to deliver us blissful joy or deep anguish, *_yet it is perhaps also the most overlooked equipment fitting component in golf!_*

    Would you recommend using a balance board and keeping it tilted left during the entire swing? They are meant to tilt right, then left at the inception of the downswing, but could be used to start weight left and keep it left.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  День тому

      Hi Arnold,
      You could try it, but what I do not want to happen is for your upper torso and head to lean towards the target from a face-one perspective as that could cause issues with your downswing path, contact, and ball flight. In other words, we address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward - generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs - while retaining the stacked relationship. During the motion, the head should remain centered in the "box" established at address through impact. (A little bit of head cocking like Jack Nicklaus did is fine, as long as the head does not move left or right.)

    Tom, would you also explain power distribution related to the leading and trail arms please. If it makes sense at all. Thanks

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  5 годин тому +1

      Hi Ben,
      There are "power accumulators" in the swing which are assigned to each arm. Ideally, though, we should simply "allow" the hand/wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. In other words, if we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power.
      Beyond that, you are delving into a realm that is beyond the scope of this forum and more suited to the type of highly specific step by step, position by position instructional detail that is readily available to members of my online school. Excellent analysis! Taking this one step further, there are a number of pictures of Hogan at the top of his backswing where his left foot is clearly rotated inwards. Is it fair to say that although the weight remains primarily on the left side, the pressure point where that weight is borne moves to the inside ball of the left foot on the backswing and then back to the left heel when the downswing starts?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  51 хвилина тому

      I appreciate that, Bob!
      As goes the tailbone, so goes the weight. Mr. Hogan’s tailbone is moving forward as clearly shown. Now, as for that lead heel thing, try getting your tailbone moving toward the target and turning your hips and shoulders properly on an inclined plane as Mr. Hogan does. If you can take your turn to an extreme without causing any discomfort, then you will experience a naturally occurring counterbalancing of these motions that can bring the lead heel up and transfer pressure into the ball of the lead foot. That is what is occurring. He is absolutely not shifting weight into the trail foot as some may erroneously believe.
      Nice job accurately analyzing what is taking place in Mr. Hogan's swing!

Because as you well know, if we can get Hogan right there are tremendously effective swing keys to be garnered.

      I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Phil, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction!
      LOL! I don't "prefer one body part over another! In fact, I've got plenty of lesson content on the hips as well. When properly deployed in sequence our hips play a role in preserving our downswing path and they can certainly provide a power boost. When prematurely rotated, all bets are off. For example, the lateral targetward action of the hips acts as a governor on the rotational component, thereby enabling the player to keep their upper torso square and their swing center intact without having to fight their body. It's also a move that you will notice with every great ball striker. (Cue up a face-on video of any Tour player, put your finger, mouse pointer, or some other reference tool on their lead hip at address, and then observe the extent to which the hips move laterally past your pointer in the downswing while - and this is key - the head and thus the swing center remains in place.) This will occur naturally if we allow it to, but unfortunately the misguided "fire the hips" notion has plagued so many amateurs with an early-onset spinout that makes them steep and across the line, or they get stuck, early extend, flip, etc. For them, the "feel" of the shoulders leading will help in overcoming this, correctly engaging their hips and fixing their path, thereby leading them to a solid, "crispy" impact condition.
      In general terms, I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my UA-cam content. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Thanks Ken - I'm glad you enjoyed it!
      The outward flaring of _both_ feet and knees 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates and is supportive of: 1) the proper amount of inclined, free-flowing hip turn in the backswing, 2) the gradually increasing weight load into the lead side without any rearward shifting of our swing center (which can occur if the knee kicks inward), and 3) the restriction-free lateral and rotational action of the hips in the downswing.

      If you are feeling like a rubber band being stretched and experiencing pain, then something is amiss in your setup and/or motion. I say this with high confidence because the swing system I teach is a proven body-friendly method. Beyond validation from professionals in the chiropractic, orthopedic, and physical therapy fields, I can vouch for that through my own personal experience as a golfer who previously experienced back pain, and It is further supported by the fact that a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power source, and it also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lower back, lead knee, and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process.
      Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. The value in terms of what you get for the low price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.
      And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that is delivering the referenced results.
      You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking. I hope you'll give the school some thought.

      It is essentially the same swing with every club, David; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ua-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/v-deo.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
      Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following:
      1) They are not setting their weight forward correctly and as a result are tilting their spine towards the target. We should address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship.
      2) Their hips are not continuing their lateral targetward action through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel, thereby posing an increased risk of premature spinout. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing - and they should move targetward naturally if we allow them to - then their rotation takes over, thereby stalling the necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices.
      Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) during the downswing and through impact. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA.
      3) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".)
      4) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )

    You are on a roll. This video and your recent two videos on the trail elbow are the best. I have a question: Once a golfer is at the top of the backswing, as you describe it with weight forward, what happens to that front leg weight on the downswing and follow through? Does the front leg lose weight and regain it during the forward part of the swing? Or, does the weight on the front leg stay there (as the leg straightens) on the forward swing and increase at some point during the delivery and follow through? I am asking because as i watched this video and looked at my swing (in my mind), I realize that as I begin to straighten my front leg on the downswing I start pushing my weight back to my rear leg and then back to the front leg towards the end of the forward swing (finish position). Can you describe the correct procedure for this. Thank you.

      I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!!
      In the system I teach the weight should never transfer to the trail side at any point during the motion. It really begins with how you set you weight forward, and this is critical. If it's done while keeping the swing center intact then there ought not be any issue. What I don't want to see is the upper torso and head moving targetward at any time prior to impact as that would signify improper execution and a resulting drift in center and low point. To correctly set ourselves for this, we address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs). We then gradually experience more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. The result is a centered, stress-free, flowing motion back and through, and a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing.
      And while there is certainly content on my channel that addresses this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lessons and drills, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    I think Hogan used to put a wedge under his right foot during practice swings to make sure he wasn’t shifting his weight backwards.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 дні тому +1

      I don't doubt that. It's also why he really emphasized that inward trail knee orientation in the setup. He was creating a "feel" for the weight to remain forward prior to subsequently allowing the trail leg to straighten in the backswing while keeping his swing center intact. Much of Mr. Hogan's "Five Lessons" book was about his "feels" as opposed to what he actually did, and this led to many misguided interpretations. Once the "feel vs. real" aspects are fully understood, there is then great instructional value to be garnered.
      Thanks,

I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness.
      Anyway, I'm very glad to know that the truth has set you free, and now that you are armed with this knowledge hope you are able to use it to the betterment of your game!!

      Yes - I saw your message about this in a separate thread. The notion of a “weight” shift in the golf swing has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. In fact, here is Jack Nicklaus on weight shift: "I don't believe in a lateral shift," says Nicklaus. "Of course not. I believe in staying on the ball." Asked what he thinks about teachers who advocate a weight shift, he answers, "They don't know how to play."
      Now, there is certainly an allowance for a transfer of “pressure” into the trail side. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club back and around us during the takeaway and backswing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thus our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. In the swing I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side, and definitely no falling back into the trail side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion.
      While there are certainly plenty of other videos on my channel that address this topic, a more structured option that I referenced in my other reply is my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal instruction method that is delivering the previously stated results.

    Hey Tom it turns out my contact point if fat when I keep my weight forward. Why?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  32 хвилини тому +1

      Consider the following possibilities, Rob: 1) Ball position is too far forward, 2) Hands are too far back at address (they should be in line with the inside of your lead thigh), 3) You are setting your weight forward improperly by leaning your upper torso towards the target and losing the “stacked” relationship of your shoulders, hips, and knees, 4) The swing center and low point are drifting backwards at some point during the motion (face-on video will help you determine this), 5) The downswing is steep and/or the path is out-to-in, 6) Conversely, the path is too shallow, 7) Early extension of the trail arm during the downswing (also known as "casting"), 8) Flipping/scooping through the zone, 8) Loss of relationship with the ball (shoulder angle flattening, loss of tilt). Though not an exhaustive list, those are the primary causes of fats, thins, and tops. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first three listed faults - prior to diving into a swing intervention.
      And while there are certainly videos on my channel that address these various issues, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

      Yes. There is a right handed golfer on a handicapped players tour with just his left leg and he absolutely bombs it with a very centered motion that is obviously devoid of weight shift. We can recreate his "advantage" with drills that really emphasize keeping the weight on the lead leg. One such drill I have in the online school is called "(0% Weight Forward/Arms Straight". There's another that I've demonstrated occasionally in YT channel videos where I'll drop the trail foot back behind me in a closed stance type of look and put essentially all my weight on the lead leg. I've even played rounds of golf doing that with great results!

    Yes, it is, also, very notable that Hogan aligns his right leg with the angle of his right foot, thru the course of his backswing. And, particulary with the Darracott video, it is very notable that his head offsets to the right of the target, in his backswing. You can see the exact same swing characteristics in Bobby Jones swing. And, if you just simply stand with your arms by your side and push back with the lower left part of your neck, you will make a full turn and your weight will move onto your left foot.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 дні тому +1

      Yes - when studying and _truly_ understanding Hogan's swing, one comes to realize that he was conveying his *_feels_* in the Five Lessons book as opposed to what he was actually doing, which is why the subtitle of the book should have been "How I Stopped Hooking the Ball". Instead, as Mr. Hogan said, "the secret is in the dirt", and it's quite apparent that his published swing keys have been as clear as mud for the vast majority of the golfing world ever since... 😆

      If you put some type of reference point on the top of Mr. Hogan's head in a swing video, you'll observe how it does not raise up until post-impact. This confirms that his relationship remained intact.

      @@SagutoGolf Great video and pretty compelling. I remember as a kid Hogan late in his life did a commercial where he hit some balls. I had it on VCR and would watch it over and over and over. Five fundamentals was the golf bible back then and it was what I used to learn. I was never very good (best was like a 5 hdcp) but my golf game was built as much as I could around Hogan's swing. Haven't golfed in a decade but would love to be able to get out there again.

      I don't need data, broh - just observe the knee action and the tailbone movement. It's incontrovertible.
      As I may have shared with you in a previous reply, Timothy, the notion of a _“weight”_ shift in the golf swing has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. In fact, here is Jack Nicklaus on weight shift: "I don't believe in a lateral shift," says Nicklaus. "Of course not. I believe in staying on the ball." Asked what he thinks about teachers who advocate a weight shift, he answers, "They don't know how to play."
      Now, there is certainly an allowance for a transfer of _“pressure”_ into the trail side. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion.
      Having said that, my job is to inform and not to convince. So as the captain says when he turns of the seatbelt sign, you are free to roam about the cabin. It's not empirically what great players do though- ua-cam.com/video/e82g4YuXv1Y/v-deo.html. They do shift slightly to the right and then re-center early. Force plates show that pressure split as well.

    Hogan did not tucked his right arm in no?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  День тому +1

      Not sure what you are watching, but Mr. Hogan's trail elbow was quite tucked in his swing! It is certainly acceptable to have a few inches of space between the trail elbow and the torso at the top just like I have in my swing, and I've made a point of saying this in various videos on this topic. The key is to ensure that the arm has not lost its "tucked" orientation and the elbow is definitely not flying away, meaning that it is in perfect position to reconnect in the downswing.
      Every great ball striker gets that tucked trail elbow condition - and thus achieves external rotation of the trail shoulder - at some point prior to impact; some sooner than others. "Gluing" it in there is a "feel" that is necessary for most amateurs to achieve this desired action - at least until they have properly ingrained it. In fact, unsolicited feedback confirms that my lesson series on this "trail arm magic" has helped countless golfers across the globe to overcome wide variety of issues and experience crispy ball striking and explosive, effortless power.
      So, amateurs can do their best to mimic some of those top players in the world - truly gifted athletes who despite their God-given talents have still had to spend countless hours hitting thousands of balls per week to dial in their respective unique and idiosyncratic motions and precise timing. Or they can opt for a low-maintenance, body-friendly, equally powerful swing system rooted in physics and geometry, modeled on empirical data from the game's greatest ball strikers, and yes - fully on display at every Tour event.
      While there is certainly plenty of content on my channel on this swing key, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lessons and drills, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    It’s possible to play well doing this, but force plate analysis shows it’s not true. 99% of scratch golfers and better shift a majority of their weight to the trail side at some part of their backswing. That does not mean they sway. For some reason, this channel conflates weight shift with swaying. They are completely different. It’s possible to shift a huge amount of weight to the trail side while or keeping the swing center stationary or shifting the swing center towards the target. Only a tiny percentage of good ball strikers keep a majority of weight on their lead leg throughout the swing.

    • @dmichaels4117
      @dmichaels4117 8 годин тому +1

      It is not a weight shift, it is a pressure shift. The equation for pressure is P=F/A, where P=Pressure, F=Force (the reading on the force plate), and A=Area.
      To demonstrate the difference between weight and force, stand about 2 feet away from a wall, where the wall is on your backswing side. Now lift your trail leg. 100% of your weight is now on your lead leg. Take your trail leg and push it against the wall. You will fall over onto your lead side. Zero weight was shifted from your lead side to your trail side. You fell over due to force, not because of weight. This is what the backswing will feel like, without the tipping over part. Your weight stays forward, and you are building force onto the trail leg. This is what all of the great golfers accomplish during their golf swing.
      Hope this helps.

      @rexxengineering8333 - We've done this dance before, and I am happy to defer to the spot-on reply by @dmichaels4117 this time around. The plates you reference measure "pressure", and not "weight".
      As I have probably said previously, the notion of a “weight” shift in the golf swing has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. In fact, here is Jack Nicklaus on weight shift: "I don't believe in a lateral shift," says Nicklaus. "Of course not. I believe in staying on the ball." Asked what he thinks about teachers who advocate a *_weight_* shift, he answers, *_"They don't know how to play."_*

However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thus our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. In other words, here's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion.
      Having said that, my job is to inform and not to convince. So, since we've been here before on multiple occasions, should we count you among those naysayers who occasionally show up in this forum to vehemently (though wholly inconsequentially) voice their dissent in ignorance of the difference between PRESSURE and WEIGHT, contending _ad nauseum_ that one must shift their WEIGHT and apparently choosing this as their hill to die on? Because for them their ignorance is anything but bliss. Or, do you pull your flag off that plateau and accept that if you were to substitute the word "pressure" for "weight" in your thinking that you would then reside in the truth? (Well, aside form that ridiculous 99% figure that you just pulled out of your rearward shifting posterior....😎)
      I'd love for you to finally grasp the facts as supported by the empirical data and make peace with my instruction that is benefiting over 500,000 golfers across the planet through various platforms spanning all age ranges and experience ability levels, but that choice is yours.
      So, it's either thanks for your visits and best of luck to you, or I'll look forward to hearing from you again in the supportive tone of one who truly gets it. Your train is leaving the station and the doors are closing. Are you onboard?

However, much of that book was about his "feels" as opposed to what he actually did, and this led to many misguided interpretations that have led countless generations astray. Once the "feel vs. real" aspects are fully understood, there is then great instructional value to be garnered.

    Doing the backswing this way is pretty straight forward, the problem is the downswing. Once at the top, it is super easy to come over the top because it is quite difficult to readjust the hip back so you can rotate properly.
