      Hello Mr Helross 🤣 seems like we have more in common ... have you ever seen the DVD of this concert ? It's filmed in Bochum/Germany, only an hour from my house, but I couldn't go on the day they filmed; I had seen them months before at the RockHard Festival. Nevermore surely are among my favourite metal bands and I would say even Top 3 of the new century ... even though they started in the 90s

      @@rudolfbecker4313 I have seen it, yes. I listen to Dead Heart In a Dead World and This Godless Endeavor multiple times a month, probably. IMO I'd go as far as saying TGE is an absolute must listen metal album. I was really bummed when the band broke up, and devastated when I found out Warrel Dane had died. I also listen to his solo album frequently.

      @@GalegHelross It's hard to pick a real favourite album, all are very good except for the first and the last. I also have both Warrel Dane solo albums and 2 of Jeff Loomis .. I guess you know what they sound like ... lots of shredding and noodeling (an expression I learned from Mr John Petrucci 😄) He also has vocals in 3 or 4 songs ... not bad at all ... but do you also know Warrel's first band Sanctuary ?

    • @GalegHelross

      @@rudolfbecker4313 I can mostly agree with that, but I tend to go with albums 3-6. I got into them thru hearing The River Dragon Has Come in 01 or 02. I purchased the first Loomis solo album and gave it quite a few listens when it came out, but ultimately find it kind of boring after a while. I've only heard a few Sanctuary songs, but it has long been on my list of bands I plan to do a deep dive into.

    Much appreciation to Rudi for this. Not any songs that I would have personally selected, but I'm so happy to see the band out there. Definitely would have loved to see one of the many great Nevermore ballads, but thanks again.

      That would make for a great "2nd Listen" for Jim. I know Jim likes Heavy stuff like me and Rudi do. But Nevermore are great at the straight-forward "ballad-like" songs too (and lyrical content is MUCH more than typical ballads put out by the more "Heavy Metal" type bands).

    Jeff Loomis is one of the most impressive virtuoso guitars players that I have ever heard. I would vote to just listen to Dead Heart in a Dead World or This Godless Endevour in their entirety.

    Like my namesake I appreciate less harsh vocals paired with music that traditionally has that harsher style.
    Will definitely check out more of their work.

      Hi Eric, this is even more astonishing, as the band Sanctuary with Warrel Dane, Jim Sheppard and later Jeff Loomis are from Seattle .. as Nevermore is of course, too. And you are not tooo young, I mean as teenagery you could've heard them ... or did you listen to the "wrong" radio station ? 😆Take your time with the mail, the "preparations" are more important 🤘

    • @mvunit3
      @mvunit3 7 місяців тому +2

      The only thing about Communic, the vocalist always had a "sameness" to his style, and the guitar never deviated more. They had enough though that I purchased 2 albums around the time of their releases. But for me, each Nevermore album had lots of surprises.

      when Communic started, german rock press immediately named them the new Nevermore. The first two albums were great, but then there was a certain stagnation. I saw them on tour after the second album.. great concert ...... and follow the channel ... some Communic is planned 🤘

    This was big fun - as always, when I choose music and you like it. Nevermore was an underrated band, maybe because they were not only part of a single genre - as you mentioned, you heard some Strapping Young Lads, some Meshuggah, some Djent and there is much more on the several albums - but maybe also because their lyrics weren't "mainstream"; many of them were very critical, not what we call in german 08/15 lyrics 😆
    If you wonder were this was recorded, it was in the city of Bochum/Germany, the venue is a former industry plant called the Zeche. I wasn't at this concert, but had seen them months before at the RockHard Festival - a very intense 1 hour gig. At the Zeche I saw for example Epica and Iced Earth.
    To everybody who liked the live songs I highly recommend this DVD - The Year of the Voyager - 2 hours of great metal 🤘

    Jim,
    I was scrolling through videos (little behind on your stuff!) I wanted to see if you had come across something truly impactful I have discovered and listening to a lot lately. I don't see it, and you need to check it out. Mirar is the band and their first EP, Mare is worthy of a listen. I will warn you it will most likely push your boundaries, much like Igorrr did for me, but there truly is something special with both of them.
    Why did I post this here? Because Mirar is THE heaviest music I have ever heard and I saw heavy in this title. This here is more classical heavy I would say, Mirar is in their own world, I can't quite describe it. I know you can't do a video for everything, but please please listen to it.

    Just back from a mini-break and so catching up on my UA-cam notifications. This had better be good!
    Yeah, not bad. Not power-metal - first track is almost reminiscent of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - and no obtrusive synths. Genuine straight heavy metal and nothing wrong with that.

    • @rudolfbecker4313
      @rudolfbecker4313 7 місяців тому +1

      do you really think it's just straight metal ? Listen to 1 Nevermore album and you have more guitar solos than maybe 5 nowadays bands have together 🤘

    • @kenl2091
      @kenl2091 7 місяців тому +1

      @@rudolfbecker4313 Guitar solos have always been part of heavy metal since the dawn of the seventies (maybe not Iommi so much, but most other bands) and so that's part of its 'straightness'. I'm struggling not to throw in a Rob Halford joke here so let's just finish. (tbh, Priest make some of the straightest heavy metal that there is)

    Hi Jim and Rudi,
    Don’t know anything about them.
    I can listen to the first song without becoming miserable because the singer isn’t growling 😅.
    Very loud indeed, as if a canon is constantly firing but it’s not bad.
    2nd song: i like this song. Very melodic as you say.
    3rd song: i like the singing a bit less here but the music more.
    4th song: musically they are very good. Great and fanciful melody lines. I’m not that impressed by the singer. He sounds a bit thin here and there but that could change if I listen to this again on the stereo set with proper speakers.
    Do you know the band Evergrey? They have a great singer.

    • @rudolfbecker4313
      @rudolfbecker4313 7 місяців тому +2

      Wow, I hadn't expected this basicly positve comment from you 😆 but we are still learning about each other, right ?
      I'm sure you know that I know Thomas Englund as he is part of AYREON ... and the newest Bluray ... as you also know, I was there - Sep in Tilburg or better know as AYREON CITY 😃 I had seen Evergrey live in 2005 in Düsseldorf opening for James LaBrie on his solo tour.
      I have 3 albums of Evergrey and my favourite is Solitude - Dominance - Tragedy. The newer stuff didn't really impress me a lot 🤔

    • @palantir135
      @palantir135 7 місяців тому

      @@rudolfbecker4313 of course, I forgot about Thomas Englund’s band.
      You know I hate certain types of voices. Growling is taboo as are voices that are very shrill, painful whining sounds and screaming.
      I heard a few albums by evergrey but I can’t remember if they were newer or older.

      I have one of Evergrey's earlier albums ("The Inner Circle"), though I liked it, it didn't grab me and I didn't follow them after. Then years later I revisited them, and I think they became better writers. I'll probably start purchasing their albums, even their Ballad-like songs are REALLY strong. But that Drummer! Man!
