    Another great video Derek, always very informative and very helpful in building our knowledge in the gas industry, sometimes reading the book doesn't really settle in the head but watching the video and looking in the training manual it really helps a lot, its really amazing your videos always enjoy watching them, it was almost a 1 hour video but didn't realise due to all the important information in the video. Excellent mate. 😀😀👍👍

    I always have a cup of water when doing a flue flow test, if it fails and the smoke starts coming back into the room I can extinguish the pellet immediately stopping the room getting filled with smoke. Good video 👍

      Using a smoke match first is to stop that happening but good advice anyway 👍🏻

    When you were doing the through flow test on the chimney I did exactly what you did without the closure plate and was told this was incorrect on my ACS. Was told it must be done through the opening on the closure plate to also test the spillage on the plate.

    • @tomkatgastraining
      @tomkatgastraining  2 роки тому

      Well that’s just not true what if it’s a DFE or ILFE fire that has no closure plate. Again trainers and assessors with different opinions

    Great video. Dont like using the smoke pellet holders, while you are there holding the pellet your not running round checking the terminal and in the loft and bedrooms etc,

    • @tomkatgastraining
      @tomkatgastraining  3 роки тому +1

      Once the smoke has gone you can check the rooms and loft for smoke because if it is leaking the room or loft will be full of smoke. Granted you might need to use a second one and run outside to check the chimney 😉

    Thank you for your help, effort and passion u put into each video. Been learning more from u than my tutor. My question regarding the precast, u mentioned that it should be 3 starter blocks then it should rise 600mm above the outlet of the appliance. The 3 starter blocks are 600 themselves, shouldn’t the 600mm straight flue before any bend be above the 3 starter blocks?
    Many thanks in advance.

    • @tomkatgastraining
      @tomkatgastraining  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching the starter blocks are the catchment space and the primary flue the 600 mm rise is in the secondary flue hope that helps 👍🏻

    Fantastic video! Lots of information. That hour didn’t feel an hour at all. Too much concentration lol. Really enjoyed it. This will definitely help me. Especially with revision.
    At 35:45 you said if you screw the regulator in, your pressure should go up on the gauge and the flame should rise and if you turn it back anti-clockwise the pressure will go down and reduce the gas going in. I don’t get this. Isn’t it right for ‘tighty’ and left for ‘lucy’? So, if you screw the regulator in it would restrict the gas flow, but here it’s increasing the gas flow so more gas goes to the burner??? Thanks Derek. Much appreciated 👍🏻

      When you screw down on a regulator it puts pressure on the spring and diaphragm so it increases the pressure screw it up it decreases the pressure

    Warning, if you shut the door to a compartment you must have a personal Carbon Monoxide detector mounted on your person that has been tested and proven over and above the flue gas analyser you are using. the personal Carbon Monoxide detector should be set to Alarm at its lowest setting. should it Alarm open the door and ventilate immediately. We do not need to lose another Engineer to this situation.

    • @tomkatgastraining
      @tomkatgastraining  3 роки тому

      Are you selling the alarms then because boilers are room sealed now so where is the danger

    @tomkatgastraining why are gas pipe that run through ducts sleeved and sealed at one end only

    • @tomkatgastraining
      @tomkatgastraining  5 місяців тому

      Gas pipes that run through an outside wall require the sleeve to be sealed to the wall at both ends and the gas pipe sealed to the sleeve on the inside so if gas escapes it one go into the cavity and will disperse outside so not to create an explosion

    Thanks for the video. If you went to a house and found a precast flue system from pre 1986 that had internal dimensions less than 90mm, how would you categorise it?

    • @tomkatgastraining
      @tomkatgastraining  3 роки тому

      Ncs but it also depends on the appliance connected to it and if it passes flue flow and spillage
