Hi Derek just passed all my gas reassessment exams and wanted to say Thankyou. Your videos have been fantastic for preparing me to take the exam and practical again. Brilliant you take the time to make these videos. Thankyou 👍🏻
Interesting. One to get your head around. Looked *REALLY* confusing at first. However, like always, after watching your videos from start to finish I find that you explain it well with great examples. I’m glad I can access these videos at any time. Much appreciated. Thanks Derek 👍🏻 Asian Jon. Training.
very helpful videos Derek . Thank you for your time and energy . love all the videos i have seen so far and look forward to all that follows. Keep up the good work
Hi Derek, thank you for your informative video on ventilation. Im in the process of having a large open plan kitchen dining living room built. I want to have a gas cooker but with a downdraft extractor. Is this permissable? I have a large window that opens to the outside less than 3 meters away and I also have a large 4m patio door about 4meters away. The gas cooker and downdraft extractor will be on a Island. Would really appreciate your advice as my builder is doubtful.
Well explained 👍 I had a conversation with gas safe regarding this in. gas safety check, and they confirmed it as NCS as the room size was correct. Problem is the appliance can't be replaced As it currently is!
Thanks for this, I've been struggling with internal kitchens for the past 8 years! If the door is big enough can this cover the ventilation requirements alone or does there have to be a window/vent? I was to install a cooker in a kitchen last week that had a conservatory to the rear and a porch to the front and living room off to one side. There were no windows or vents into any of the rooms, combined floor area was probably 36m².
I love the videos but I have to correct a mistake.TB 005(a) I believe says that the extractor fan must be capable of moving 30 litres per second not a minute and 60 litres per second if not adjacent the cooker or hob. My question is if the extractor is connected to a class 1 chimney is that considered as going to outside? My thinking it would very likely not work as the fan would not be powerful enough to force the flumes up the chimney any thoughts.
Another excellent video Derek & well explained, your maths is brilliant I'm not that Good with maths so we're in the same boat, why are building regs making things complicated, the 2 windows was a better idea. Good video.. 👍😁👌
Just been told by a fitter that I need external fan prior to him commissioning my new (replacement cooker . Yet I have an openable door and an openable window leading onto a conservatory with both french double doors and four openable windows (sizes fall as your diagram) When I pointed this out the fitter said I appreciate that but you might close them when I`ve gone ! Confused !
@@tomkatgastraining Hi Tom does new installed cover the replacement of existing cookers, like for like ? The old one was a little tired so we replaced it with exactly the same unit . The fitter stated we need to ventilate direct to the outside but the conservatory prevents this .
@@jimtuckwell8142 yes it does. You will require mechanical extraction ie a cooker hood vented to outside or an extract fan to outside to replace your cooker or hob
@@tomkatgastraining Thanks .This going to be a problem . Wish I`d left the old one in ! 🤔 I was banking on the building regs "To comply with Building Regulations, if there is an existing extract fan (or cooker hood extracting to outside in the kitchen) you need to retain (or replace) it. If there is no existing ventilation system you need not provide one." Damn
Kitchen between 5and10 and haven’t got ventilation with a door direct to outside nil and without a door is 50cm2 right? You said 100 I’m looking in the viper am I wrong?

Just heads the dilemma on a land lord, thanks again on deciphering the TB05a in working practical form
Awesome lecture about grey area of ventilation

What are the new/amended regs as gas safe have withdrawn all version of TB 005?
Another great video, thanks Derek 👍
What if you remove the door between the kitchen and conservatory?

Thank you for your video. Always top. Can you tell please where I can download these British standards for ventilation and chimneys. Many thanks
You will have to have a look on the internet you might be lucky as we have to pay for the standards
Very helpful video. Thanks again
Hi mate have you done a video of how to correctly analsyer a cooker to get the ratios?
Yep it’s in how to use an analyser and understand the results

@@jimtuckwell8142 the regs have just changed and your engineer is correct this video covers already installed cookers and hobs not new installs

If you can still get an air vent fitted direct to outside air or a ducted vent to outside air of 100cm cubed wouldn’t that satisfy?
You can use ducted air
@@tomkatgastraining thanks for the reply
I just removed a window to get the installer to fit the gas cooker, then reinstalled it when he left.

I didn't think extractor fan is acceptable means of ventilation it's taking air from room whilst appliance is on
Thinking and knowing are completely different things
