    Definitely shows how peoples pallets are very different. I love this one! Great sweetness and balanced with the smokiness for me. It may be a little light, but still packs great flavors every sip. Would be nice to see what a higher proof version of this could be. Perfect sipper around the fire with a cigar though, Gurkha Hudson Bay specifically.

      I do too and so far most credible scotch reviewers love this Lagavulin Offerman Edition. It’s arguably very well distilled. These editions aren’t a gimmick. They are terrific scotch expressions. I was very disappointed in this review. Cheers.

      Agree. My take is quite different. Although I see it as a lighter, summer whisky, albeit a peated one.

    Great review and I agree. I would rather buy another bottle of the Lagavulin 8 which I like a lot.

    Thanks for the review Cam! This certainly helps me to prioritize what I might be purchasing over the next few months. - For my next peated I would really like to find the new Ardanhoe

    I’m not a scotch fan but I really enjoy this bottle. I bought a backup and have a bottle of last year’s coming because of it.

    I avoid Lagavulin on principle, as they're one of those brands that still sticks with the deceptive practice of added coloring. But as a big Nick Offerman fan, the marketing works on me, so I've bought a bottle of each of the Offerman offerings. The previous one was my favorite, but this one isn't bad. It just tastes like regular Lagavulin 12, with no hint of rum at all.

    Great review! Thanks for helping me make a decision on this one!

    The third Offerman is my favourite. I dislike rum casks enormously but I adore this one. Lagavulin is my fave distillery. Their smoke is spectacular. Charred oysters, charred lemon, lots of peat. I do not see this as an easy beginner scotch. I have some issues with your reviews.

    There is a very obvious brine and far beyond sweet. This is classic Lagavulin smoke.

    Agree I’m not a huge fan of rum finished bourbons but I have enjoyed rum finished ryes.

    First despite not even liking Scotch 😂. I love Offerman though.

    It has been my least favorite as well. I do not pick up much sherry influence, nor do I get much peat on the tung either.

    💯 agree. I didn’t want to tell you when you were searching for this one but I think this is the worst offerman release from Lagavulin. I think the Guinness is the best, charred oak clearly #2 and very good and I use the rum finish to add some brine to my very dirty and very dry martini once or twice a month when I’m in the mood but this is not a good scotch. And I love Lagavulin.

    I agree definitely the best celebrity whiskey. The charred oak was great. Sounds like I’m going to skip this and keep searching for the Guinness cask bottle.

    100% agree on sweet peat being most approachable and rum casks in bourbon being a no no for me too.

      Maybe I just have a weakness for sugar, but I couldn't disagree more on the rum cask finished bourbon, since I'm a huge fan of the Four Gate ANDALUSIA KEY II bourbon and rye offerings (just hate the price).

    Sad this one was a disappointment. Was hearing great things on this one. How do scotches open up compared to bourbons and ryes?

    • @DrumsAndDrams
      @DrumsAndDrams  2 місяці тому

      Sorry I forgot to mention you in the vid! I put it in the description. Thanks again for snagging it. I think scotches do open up, especially finished ones, but I’d imagine it would flatten out rather than ramp up as it opens. I wish this had a better palate because the whiskey tastes so darn good. Ugh!!

      @@DrumsAndDrams well, with such a poor Offerman offering, you can leave my name out of it. Ha!

      Only disappointment for me is that it tastes like the standard Lagavuilin, where the previous Offerman versions had something different going on.

    On the neck pour I wasn't sure about this one either. Also not a fan of Rum finished anything but give it 2 weeks and a creamy textured sweet char and tropical note just explode.

    • @DrumsAndDrams
      @DrumsAndDrams  2 місяці тому

      Yeah I love the notes you mentioned it’s just the drinking experience that I feel lacks for me. Maybe I’m in the minority on this one though! Opinions seem fairly split. Cheers man!

    Not a fan of rum casks, not a fan of Diageo and not a fan of BS celebrity marketing.
    That being said I'm buying this every year. ...as long as it's at least 46% and about $80. $99 is a pass. So obviously the 8 is better value and more consistently a winner. And until the 16 is 46% the whole Lagavulin situation is sad.
    Honestly, there is is so much peat on my bar that I don't know when I'll actually open this, I'm almost ready to kill the Guinness bottle.

    I just don’t consider you a fabulous reviewer. Tonight this sounds very amateurish. Annoying.

    • @DrumsAndDrams
      @DrumsAndDrams  2 місяці тому +7

      It sounds like this one review has upset you so much (presumably because you disagree) that you’re now calling me amateurish and telling me I’m bad at reviewing whiskey. I think it’s OK to have differing opinions on a bottle. But if I annoy you that much, perhaps you should find other reviewers that you more closely align with.
