    *I'm deaf in my right ear which is why I'm not wearing headphones. I know, it's a bummer not to get the panning sounds. It's also been a bummer to only have one ear my whole life for lots of other reasons, like, playing telephone growing up, I was terrible at it. But, I'll be ok, and I'm getting both channels in the earbud, thanks for your concern :)

    Nice to hear Frank Delgado and his synths be front and center for a change.

      Completely agree. His layers to their music go so unnoticed sometimes.

      I hope everyone has presence on this one, Frank is the atmosphere for the tracks so its a crucial element.

      @@SOMA-no2gq Definitely! Everyone is at just the right levels on this song and Ohms. Leave it to Terry Date to bring out the best of Deftones in whatever they're going for at the time. Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan sound great, but this shit right here is next level massive sounding.

      True, the songs would feel so much emptier without him, he really shined on Koi No Yokan too

      Oh yeah, I really do love hearing frank. Sometimes I find myself disappointed a bit at how low he is compared to the other instruments, but maybe that’s the point, maybe they don’t want it to be too overbearing, I don’t know. But when I heard when girls telephone boys live, it’s seriously almost ruined the studio version of the song for me. When they let his synth stand front and center in the live versions, it just made the song sound so much angrier, better, in my opinion. You can hear it if you’re really looking for it on the studio version, but it’s a bit hard to pick out because of how quiet it is

    Funny you mention Chino taking advice from an outside source... There’s this great interview about the new album where he talks about going to therapy for the first time in his life:
    “I always felt like, ‘why would I talk to somebody I don’t know about my personal feelings?’” he explains. “But I did go end up seeing somebody, and it was a whole different experience when you’re talking to somebody who doesn’t know you, doesn’t know you from a band. You start talking about yourself from childhood on, and start making sense of why and how you became the way you are.”
    www.kerrang.com/features/the-secrets-behind-deftones-new-album-inside-the-studio-for-the-first-time/
    I highly suggest reading it to get some more insight into the band :) Thanks for your great reactions Jersh!

    Now that you're all caught up on Deftones (and I've enjoyed and appreciated all your reactions), I would love it if you would react to Team Sleep. That was Chino's first and main side project. Specifically the songs Ever, Blvd Nights and Iceache

      It really goes in line with what Chino said about Ohms being a reflection of our current situation while having a somewhat optimistic outlook for the future. This song sounds angry, but it’s actually quite positive

    In the chorus he's talking about rising from the ashes. That's a metaphor for rebirth. New life.

    See......this is why I love your thoughts on music. You pick up on shit quick.
    When I first heard this song....I immediately LOVED the verses. The riff is super simple....but rhythmically so satisfying and groovy.
    And the change-up from the screamed passion of the vocals...to the lush melodic "I've finally achieved..." part is very cool.
    But then..............the chorus. It's just....ok. And yeah, you're right, the melody in the chorus just feels...odd. Maybe I need more listens to wrap my mind around it. That's certainly something that Deftones has made me do in the past....and almost always I end up "getting" it. But not always. But that's what I love about this band....they always throw me curve balls. Every single new release seems to tantalize AND confuse me....and then, after sitting with it for YEARS, I feel it so hard.
    Koi No Yokan is THE case in point for me. When I first heard that album in it's entirely....I was SO excited for it. And....I honestly did not like it. At all. Not a bit. And now? Honestly....it's tied for my #1 favorite Deftones album with Diamond Eyes and Saturday Night Wrist. I've been a fan since 98....and while White Pony and Around the Fur are excellent, I truly feel this band achieved their peak AFTER those albums.
    Another case in point.....Gore. Again, I didn't like it. And then I listened to it over and over. And now.....I LOVE it. It's objectively excellent.
    Deftones are a weird band. On one level their music is super immediate and to the point. And yet....there's levels of nuance that may take years to fully appreciate. But I'm totally here for that ride. Cannot wait to listen to this new album in full. I'll probably love it. And if I don't....experience has taught me that it's probably an issue with me, and I'll get it once I'm able to wrap my mind around it.

    Was expecting this earlier which is why I'm late.. love the sega intro.. this is the direction I hope the rest of the album goes in with Terry back on board.. much darker and moodier like their self titled. Loved the track from first listen. The interweaving harmonies on vocals, and Steven going lower with the guitars. Hope Sergio has more presence with the competing low end. All and all I'm excited as hell for this one, been waiting almost 5 years.

    on first listen i was kind of underwhelmed but i have to say 2 days later, i am digging it a lot more. It was kind of the same with "Ohms" to be honest which i can now say is a track i really enjoy. Glad to see you enjoyed it as well.
    btw there is a Deftones track that does that synth fade out thing that you hoped this track had, it's called "Rapture" off the "Saturday Night Wrist" album. One day i expect there will be a reaction to it, i am sure.

    Loving new deftones and I love your channel! One of my favorite reaction channels! Fyi I have a suggestion....if you could look at reacting to some Periphery. Absolomb, Blood Eagle, Stranger Things, Scarlet are just a few ideas. They have so many amazing tracks! They are a Djent/Prog style metal band. Thanks!

    This one has a few different gears, from the ambient intro to the screech in the verses, I like the groove of the chorus and that build out in the outro.

    • @newartmov
      @newartmov 3 роки тому

      @@blueberrydenim4807 Well, the riffs are super lazy, there's only a few notes going on. Chino has that trebly, watery effect on his voice and the screaming sounds very forced to me. I heard an all instrumental cover of the song with no vocals that some guy did, it sounded way better to me. I just don't dig the vocals and the riffs are super basic. Ohms has much more interesting stuff going on and really surprised me, they went in a diff. direction. Genesis just feels very lazy and uninspired to me. I'm a fan since the 90s, I love the band but expect better than this from them.

    • @blueberrydenim4807
      @blueberrydenim4807 3 роки тому

      Akira TV Ohms is definitely less basic but the simple chunky riffs are nothing new, remember diamond eyes? Those vocal effects on chino’s voice have been around forever, listen to around the fur, they’re literally all over that album. I’m also not sure what you mean by “forced” screams, like how are they any less forced than they were in the last? Like it or not, Genesis is signature Deftones
