The 500 AVS2 on my 273 ran great right out of the box, I mean even the idle was spot on, just a bit rich above idle, but ran really good. Took dropping two jets in the primary, one in the secondary, playing with rods and one lighter step up spring to get the gas mileage out of it. Easy carbs to tune once you wrap your brain around what does what.
@@bulldoggarageapparel7511 Us too !!! But we just want to see what the low dollar 318 in it's roots can actually do with a little help from some gear and converter!!!
I put a 650 Avs2 on my 360. Runs great. I had a machine shop do some work on the block when I was building it. We put it on his dyno. We didn’t even need to change the jets. Just made some minor adjustments and it was ready to go. Good video. Thanks. 👍
Seriously Will, your one funny guy!!😊😊 I would love to see a video series of a stroked out 318 from beginning to the end. Great effort with the manifold and carby set up. Thanks again, and this is all the way from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺 Take care.
Awsome video. Having a lifelong obsession with these LA engines, its great to see shared appreciation for stout and reliable Chrysler engineering. Keep up the great videos.
Good info, I've got two of these Edelbrock AVS carbs still in the box. Didn't know how to adjust the secondary air door. Similar to the old Thermoquad it seems.
Back in the day, my buddy had a factory Hemi orange plymouth Volare with green paisley cloth seats that was his mom's car. 318 and everything. Real basic, and it might have even been a special government fleet vehicle. Kind of like a Mopar COPO deal. No other options but it was a burnout machine.
Paintnamer, With the Holly, you can get a piece that makes changing the vacuum springs easier. Your point is well taken. It's still a pain to replace the vacuum cap.
Same here I like the Indian head shalack and cant stand the hood insulation ( always remove it myself). Great job I love my cast intake on the 360 i have too.
Should be interesting to see the numbers! I don't believe it would be too much slower than with the dual quads even. BTW, I can't remember if this engine had stock pistons or flattops, but have you ever used a Hugh's Whiplash cam? Supposed to give engines with low compression more power at lower RPMs while having a lope...
This engine's short block has never been apart from the factory, so it's all stock. Even the heads are stock but I did lap the valves and do a little home porting. I have not used the whiplash cam, but many say they like it
I just swapped on an AVS2 from a Proform 650 to the 318 Ramcharger.....it seems to run better off the line. Just an ocassional driver...not a hotrod. I think the annular boosters are a good improvement for a driver.
Simple is great. I will say, the dual quads were flawless. But, to get back to the low dollar 318's original state, the cast was destined to come back !!!
Glad for the pump shot you did First I was always told weather if it’s a Carter AVS or thermo quad that door should be close to the last to mess with. A different set of rod or jets look into before that door
I really didn't notice by the seat of the pants any difference when I went to the dual quads nor going back to the cast intake. Maybe an ET slip would have showed something ... ??

A very good video, I have talked to a few people that really dont like the Edelbrock carburetors. One guy told me they are junk. When you take the time to LEARN, they can be very good performance carburetors. I like the Q jet. Many call them junk. With a little work, they can give good performance, plus good fuel mileage. ( for whatever engine you put one on ) Great video Sir. 😊
Kinda curious about the brand of air filter housing you used. All the ones I have located have a sharp edge where it sits on the carb flange. Not good for the carb. What does that one have? Older aftermarket air cleaners either had a rolled over flange or a flat one. My grandson currently owns the 75 318 Duster that I once owned and it currently has a factory air cleaner housing that came off of a 360 van W/ Thermoquad. It would be OK for a factory pick up or van but doesn't work very well with modified engine. Just curious.
@@318willrun Yeah, that's a bad deal. If you run the air cleaner very much it will chew through the gasket and start working on the carb flange. I've been trying to come up with a solution, something like using some hard plastic fuel line, splitting it on one side & gluing it on the flange. Haven't tried anything yet but working on some sort of idea.Thank's for the reply.
I don't know who came up with the term china wall. I think we should call it something else. Why would we want to associate them with our American engines. Just my thoughts.
If it makes a difference, I've recently found some research that shows that wall has a lot of Roman architecture built into it. Kinda makes it Italian... maybe not much better for a Mopar fan though?

Yes, orange and paisley could be found on the Volare's !
The Thermoquad has the "air valve" tension adjustment too as well as Quadrajets. Much easier than the old style Holley diaphram spring change.
