1991.. there is nothing special about this guitar solo. Not ahead of it's time. Copied hundreds of metal hair bands with similar styles. As a guitarist, this solo was good. But way ahead of it's time, nah.

If you miss this sound, check out bands from Sweden, Finland, Brazil, etc. Hardcore Superstar, Crashdiet, Santa Cruz, Shiraz Lane, there is so many bands from overseas that have not only the 80's look, but the sound also.
This was a badass song. Kind of makes you think about the possibilities Hard Rock could have went in with in the 90s if grunge had taken over . Still very melodic with great production but heavier then what we were used to hearing. Even a slight subtle hint of industrial......
It's funny, Violent New Breed was their "getting dropped from their label" album but I LOVED it! It's like this sound plus really heavy old school Nine Inch Nails or something. Tim Skold's solo album SKOLD was also good :)

Harry Cody should of been a household name Fantastic guitars on this song and the rest of the album for that matter, which just goes to show real talent doesn't always get noticed in this world by the masses ! and that pick scratch with the copper pick he used on Heartbreak Blvd sounds as great today as it did the first time I heard it back in 1991 !

Many claim grunge killed "80s bands", but its not too tru. Slaughter released wild life in early summer of 92 and mtv played the shit out of that song and I think it was a top ten album at one point, mtv played Warrant's machine gun video a lot, there was a movie with cuba gooding jr called gladiator that Warrant covered queen's We will rock you which was on the soundtrack, mtv played that video many times. Vince neil had his solo stuff mtv played your invited but your friend cant come video a lot and he played it live at 92 or 93 mtv awards. Firehouse had hold your fire mtv played when I look into your eyes to death and it was a top 20 hit also. Poison released native tongue in 1993 and the stand video was on mtv a lot, they were on leno, arsenio, etc. I don't know if mr big is included in that scene but wild world was played on mtv and radio so much I was sick of hearing it. Was extreme a hairband? mtv played the shit out of the rest in peace video, Trixter released their Hear album in 92 mtv played a video from that album I think it was road of a thousand dreams, of course trixter was wearing flannel and shit back late 89. If anything grunge forced the bands that could afford it, to take a break. Many bands were still releasing albums It really never went anywhere. It was just a "renaissance reshuffling" of music.
I ALWAYS wish grunge hadn't come along when it did. I think hair metal could have gone on another decade for sure....grunge was actually "okay" for what it was...I just wish it could have maybe existed alongside hair metal rather than replacing it....I'm just not sure why fans felt that depressing, no-frills, angst-ridden, simple music was a favorable alternative to cool hair, general bad-assery, lights & lasers and melodic music about partying & getting laid! smh.
Man it's literally been at least 25 years since I heard this song! Had the CD in college that disappeared and my cassette tape of their debut self titled turned to dust lol! Damn good memories. Thanks for posting.
Probably better than most bands, Harry Cody was seriously and criminally underrated as was the band as a whole. True guitar master with a feel, style and sound all his very own!
I know Tim went on to play with a lot of bands...Marilyn Manson for one...these guys should have been bigger...their last album was really industrial sounding.

rock is big genre. There is room for hair metal and grunge. I prefer hair band's. I was a teenager in the 80s. GnR would have made it thru the grunge area had they stayed together. They were a little harder , little different
I just noticed that during the solo that starts around 3:10, the guitar changes several times through it. One is a double cut, single pickup, and the other is the standard LP style single cut, maybe a Melody Maker, with two pickups. Both the same color, so I guess I wasn't supposed to notice. LOL

You should hear their full industrial record Violent New Breed from 1993. Its fookin amazing and i hate industrial.

Heard this song while on spring break in Tampa Bay in 1991 and bought the cassette. Now listening to it in 2024 to take my mind back to those days!
