1991.. there is nothing special about this guitar solo. Not ahead of it's time. Copied hundreds of metal hair bands with similar styles. As a guitarist, this solo was good. But way ahead of it's time, nah.

Record company greed? There was certainly enough room for both genres. Nirvana was around in late 80s, Alice in Chains opened for Poison on thier F&B tour in early 91 up in the PNW. Many claim grunge killed "80s bands", but its not too tru. Slaughter released wild life in early summer of 92 and mtv played the shit out of that song and
I think it was a top ten album at one point, mtv played Warrant's machine gun video a lot,
there was a movie with cuba gooding jr called gladiator that Warrant covered queen's
We will rock you which was on the soundtrack, mtv played that video many times.
Vince neil had his solo stuff mtv played your invited but your friend cant come video
a lot and he played it live at 92 or 93 mtv awards.
Firehouse had hold your fire mtv played when I look into your eyes to death and it was a top 20 hit also.
Poison released native tongue in 1993 and the stand video was on mtv a lot, they were on leno, arsenio, etc.
I don't know if mr big is included in that scene but wild world was played on mtv and radio so much I was sick of hearing it.
Was extreme a hairband? mtv played the shit out of the rest in peace video, Trixter released their Hear album in 92
mtv played a video from that album I think it was road of a thousand dreams, of course trixter was wearing flannel and shit back late 89. If anything grunge forced the bands that could afford it, to take a break. Many bands were still releasing albums It really never went anywhere. It was just a "renaissance reshuffling" of music.

I think hair metal could have gone on another decade for sure....grunge was actually "okay" for what it was...I just wish it could have maybe existed alongside hair metal rather than replacing it....I'm just not sure why fans felt that depressing, no-frills, angst-ridden, simple music was a favorable alternative to cool hair, general bad-assery, lights & lasers and melodic music about partying & getting laid! smh.

    Well, she's a pretty girl,
and I don't ask for more
You know that touch of hers makes my heart beat like it never did before
I didn't know that anything could be this good
She makes me do things I don't really think I should
Like I don't even care as long as she's there
She makes me go much further than I normaly would
    Naa naa na-na-naa naa na-na-naa
Can't you see what you're doin' to me?

Can't you see that you're makin' me bleed?

Take you for a ride, mess you up inside
    heartbreak boulevard
Comin' on so slow, never let you go
    heartbreak boulevard
On the wild side, love's like suicide
    Down on heartbreak strip
    It never stays that sweet
But still you want some more
No return, no retreat, just as hooked on the stuff as you were before
I shoulda known that losin' you would hurt this deep
I shoulda known that happiness is not for keeps
Like I don't even know which way to go
Leave me alone, let me die in my sleep
    Naa naa na-na-naa naa na-na-naa
Can't you see what you're doin' to me
    Naa naa na-na-naa naa na-na-naa
Can't you see that you're makin' me bleed
    Heartbreak boulevard
Take you for a ride, mess you up inside
    Heartbreak boulevard
Comin' on so slow, never let you go
    Heartbreak boulevard
On the wild side, love's like suicide
    Down on heartbreak strip
    Heartbreak boulevard
T-t-t-take you for a ride, mess you up inside
    Heartbreak boulevard
Comin' on so slow, never let you go
    Heartbreak boulevard
Take you for a ride, mess you up inside
    Heartbreak boulevard
On the wild side, love's like suicide
    Down on heartbreak strip

Little did we know, Tim Skold would go on to work with Marilyn Manson and KMFDM. He turned in a full blown industrialist

Because there's not that many Cool people!!! Only a hand full. The masses for the most part are pathetic and Lame and only go along with whatever they are being programmed with, which is sh*t!

rock is big genre. There is room for hair metal and grunge. I prefer hair band's. I was a teenager in the 80s. GnR would have made it thru the grunge area had they stayed together. They were a little harder , little different

I just noticed that during the solo that starts around 3:10, the guitar changes several times through it. One is a double cut, single pickup, and the other is the standard LP style single cut, maybe a Melody Maker, with two pickups. Both the same color, so I guess I wasn't supposed to notice. LOL
