I always find myself rewinding the song to listen to Harrys solo over and over again, its like a song within a song, man this band was one of a kind ! and Tims Voice is amazing !
Harry Cody, man... unbelievable. I saw a video of him playing Nervous live... the entire song reminds me of Randy playing Crazy Train live on Tribute. "That's what rock-n-roll's about!"
I saw them live in San Diego sometime in the early 90s...Harry Cody was just tremendous. So fluid and melodic, and his tone was huge. He used pinch harmonics really aggressively. Great player; I hope he re-surfaces.
Harry Cody was amazing. Love his note choices on the solo here. Harry, if you are out there, come out of retirement and grace us with your talent again.
Skold was in Manson and has also help produce some new era glam/goth bands...one is Motionless in White...my daughter likes them...there not bad either...
Havent listened to this song in like a year, Brings back alot of memories... I remember Jammin it like 10 times a day last year... Good times ! Needless to say - Harrys solo is epic ! Really underrated guitarist he is...
Allright why is there only 30,000 views ??? these dudes blow guns n roses,Led Zeppelin and all them away. too fucking Sad man - this is a outstanding band right here !!!
Awesome. The second song I heard from the band. I heard this on WSHE FM Radio back in 1992 but I never seen the video because I had no MTV. Hail Shotgun Messiah.
Great great band. Saw them on the Second Coming tour in 91-92 in Ft Lauderdale Fl. Harry we miss you! Would love to see this line up play one more time.
I've always LOVED this song! I didn't hear of them until after tim Skold took over vocals from base. It's funny to see the vid now because I'm not used to seeing rockers under age 40 anymore.. :-/ "Lock the door and cut the lights I won't be coming home tonight" I love his southern accent.
yup. Tim Skold went on to first be the bassist for Marilyn Manson, later the lead guitar. He's just released his 2nd solo project (which is fucking awesome) and has also done projects with KMFDM/MDFMK as well.
excellent track, from an excellent band. anyone interested, should check out all three of their their studio albums. they're all very different from each other, and they all rock!i thought this video would've gotten more play, but mtv always had one hand on the pulse, and one up their ass!their used to be radio stations in NYC, who gave this track alot of play, though. thanx for posting.
Bizzarre that a huge fan of rock as a drummer, I share this song with two of my friends as the best slow guitar solo ever. Harry, you can play.......and I wish I had more of this!
That Solo is amazing ! This song Kicks serious ass dude - im sure one day ill be listening to this after a breakup like hell yeah dude - if theirs a tear in my eye its not for you ! rock on
check out bobby lycon's new stuff on his myspace...damn I miss these guys. This album kicks ass and I was lucky to have caught them live before they split.
@bpb2681 Yeah, I bet it is. The line ''If there's a tear in my eye, it's not for you. Don't flatter yourself.'' really just screams broken hearted. This is a 'fuck you' song to the person he loved, who I presume cheated on him or betrayed him in one way or another.
The first album, Zinny Zan was the singer and Tim played bass. After that album, Zinny left/was kicked out, and rather than get a new singer, Tim switched to vocals and they got a new bass player.
this is my second song that ive heard by these guys. im 19 and i like this song. im just trying to figure out what happened to the original singer cuz i know the blonde dude was the bassist and some guy with black hair sang. their glam stuff is amazing, glad i clicked on the link
Awesome song, I saw them in San Antonio, Texas in the early 90's! And guitar is not a Gibson, it appears like an original Taylor 815 Jumbo 12 string (see pick guard, cutaway and headstock)! And whoever still has it, sure has a great collectible guitar.
I always find myself rewinding the song to listen to Harrys solo over and over again, its like a song within a song, man this band was one of a kind ! and Tims Voice is amazing !
Most underrated ballad of all time by perhaps the most underrated band of all time
The more I listen to these guys the more I have to agree with you
Definitely agree. They should have been huge.
Agreed
Absolutely! This entire album (Second Coming) is GREAT!
"what good is all your beauty, if there's nothing behind it" the best line ever written.
This song has the best line every in a ballad..."If there's a tear in my eye, it's not for you, don't flatter yourself..."
its a lie
Two of the best lines ... “what good is all your beauty if there’s nothing behind it...”
"You seemed so innocent, you had me blinded, what good is all your beauty, theirs nothing behind it."
Shotgun Messiah wasn't an American band. They were from Sweden, this was perhaps the reason why they were unfortunately a very underrated group.
One of the best solos on a power ballad. Ever
This was one of my very favorite Power Ballads and unfortunately not enough people even knew it existed.
Anything i ever heard Harry Cody do was always high quality. His playing is / was so damn good.
What a freaking guitar solo! That is awesome! The feel and melody is freeking awesome!
+thestrawhead Check out his solo for Ride the Storm.. I think it's even better
Ride the storm is the best on the album
GUITAR ORGASUM !
Harry Cody, man... unbelievable. I saw a video of him playing Nervous live... the entire song reminds me of Randy playing Crazy Train live on Tribute. "That's what rock-n-roll's about!"
ABSOLUTELY!!! Sometimes when I hear this song, the solo plays in my head for days...Harry K!
That lead is still one of my all time faves. So killer.
+Fretslayer2003 this one and Harry's Ride the Storm solo is just beyond killer and full of emotion
saw these guys and met those guys in houston back in day 1992 , i can still remember seeing tim for first time . good memories
This dudes were badass! Harry Cody is an amazing guitar player! I saw them in Vegas at the hunt ridge theatre
Huntridge loved it !!!
This was probably the last band that ever signed a record deal that knew how to actually sing a song and play their own instruments.
I saw them live in San Diego sometime in the early 90s...Harry Cody was just tremendous. So fluid and melodic, and his tone was huge. He used pinch harmonics really aggressively. Great player; I hope he re-surfaces.
This solo is incredible.
Harry 's genius
Harry Cody was amazing. Love his note choices on the solo here. Harry, if you are out there, come out of retirement and grace us with your talent again.
Loved the 80s era. Biggest party time ever
we did have a lot of fun
Well, this song came out in 1992
I saw these guys back in 92' and I remember this tune. I almost cried it was so fucking amazing
Killer music from back in the day.....Never forget
Love the solo! Love the solo! Love the motherfucking solo!
I'd put it up there with Slash's "Sweet Child" solo.
ABSOLUTELY!!! Sometimes when I hear this song, the solo plays in my head for days...Harry K!
Probably the best solo in any ballad from the 80's, maybe of all time...
Skold was in Manson and has also help produce some new era glam/goth bands...one is Motionless in White...my daughter likes them...there not bad either...
I'm 49 and love me some MiW

Classic... Love Shotgun Messiah... Harry Cody is a guitar genius.
I love how his voice sounds coming out of bubbles inside the bathtub, after a hangover
so brilliant. yet another band that should get back together...
Best Breakup song. Ever. Wish SM was on iTunes! Love this band!
Exellent Power ballad. Great Guitar solo. Very underrated.
i love the music of 80s and early 90s

After 23 years of marriage and 25 together, it's ended. This song speaks to me right now.
I've always LOVED this song! I didn't hear of them until after tim Skold took over vocals from base. It's funny to see the vid now because I'm not used to seeing rockers under age 40 anymore.. :-/
"Lock the door and cut the lights
I won't be coming home tonight"
I love his southern accent.
yup. Tim Skold went on to first be the bassist for Marilyn Manson, later the lead guitar. He's just released his 2nd solo project (which is fucking awesome) and has also done projects with KMFDM/MDFMK as well.
The singer has a most awesome scratch voice. And the solo kicks ass on the David Gilmore level
excellent track, from an excellent band. anyone interested, should check out all three of their their studio albums. they're all very different from each other, and they all rock!i thought this video would've gotten more play, but mtv always had one hand on the pulse, and one up their ass!their used to be radio stations in NYC, who gave this track alot of play, though. thanx for posting.
Such a true song!! All those promises and you can still walk away...if there's a tear in my eye it's not for you....don't flatter yourself!!
Yup Harry Cody is still in LA and is writing jingles. Shotgun Messiah was Titan that never got its just desserts.
Love this song, takes me back
Bizzarre that a huge fan of rock as a drummer, I share this song with two of my friends as the best slow guitar solo ever. Harry, you can play.......and I wish I had more of this!

Great solo by Harry! One cool breakup song!

Zinny J.San left the band before Second Coming album. In this video Tim Skold(vocals) Harry K. Cody(guitars) Bobby Lycon(bass) Stixx(drums)
Every time I listen to this I imagine the background singing in the chorus is Paul Stanley.
🎧😎SHOTGUN🤘MESSIAH😎🎧
