@@shifterzx Because the remade audio has a bunch of the iconic Foley sound effects changed, like the .45 Hardballer used to sound super gritty and impactful, almost like a thunder clap, yet got made to sound like a Girly tinny raygun with a completely different sound source. That's the primary issue, if they didn't change the overall effects and just focused on really remaking it nobody would care and be happy with it. You sound like you don't like the film anyway.

You clearly didn't watch the video or you watched it on a cellphone. Only saying because the first shot My Moonization shows is one that is grainier on the 4K clip.
There’s still some AI artifacts in it. The Griffith Observatory sign is a dead giveaway. It looks *better* than the other recent James Cameron 4K “remasters” but it still suffers one of the biggest issues of those. AI being used to artificially sharpen and hallucinate fake details is an instant boycott for me. We don’t need it, even conservative use of it, which I could see someone arguing applies here, is a no go for me. Edit: I should add the colors are phenomenal. They look very close to the 35mm print. Something I can’t say for pretty much any other Cameron 4K so far.
The only accurate comment on here. Everyone else blindly praising this Ai upscaled mess smh it's not even a new 4K scan apparently. Just an upscale of a previous 2K scan.
I am very fussy when it comes to quality believe me but this looks stunning for its age and so much better than the blu ray remaster it just sounds to me you will never be happy just stick to the blu ray version the less superior in quality then if that makes you more happier with its dull blurry matt and lifeless look to it lol
@bioshock6935 the blu-ray literally looks better. The 4k is literally just the same scan poorly upscaled with AI. A fan could intelligently upscale the blu ray without all of the artifacts and it would look miles better than the official 4k. It's pathetic that we are getting such an inferior product. Get your eyes checked lol
Looks more contrasty and saturated. Maybe a bit too much. You lose the misty atmosphere in the scene with the three hoodlums. I remember the air looking thick with moisture.

The swipe is a good way to show the difference. Some skin tones appear on the redish side, but the detail is great, especially the first comparison shot of the garbage truck.
Nobody is forcing you to upgrade.. I can sympathize with the people complaining about the Skynet artifacts lol just finished watching on my Sony X800-M2 and WOW the film looks incredible in 4k.. no complaints over here.. I personally believe it was one hell of an upgrade, the resolution and colors look amazing in person
Skin tones and faces still don't look right in the 4K edition. They seem like wax sculptures of people and everyone looks red faced like they're sick with the fever.
Just from the look of this, you can tell Cameron had zero involvement in it which is a good thing. Actual grain, natural sharpness, authentic color. Great transfer.
Thanks for taking the time to post a comparison. I was very curious about the new transfer before buying. It looks really well for the most part. Darks and shadows in the opening are spot on. It's not too dark distracting it from the sci-fi cannons. The police station is way off for my liking. Colours seem hot and saturated, running more into the red spectrum. I'll hang on to my 2006 blu ray edition. It's still by far the most faithful. Each transfer after seems to lose that smokey, pedestrian, concrete grey atmosphere. The scene when Sarah Connor is going to work on the bike have that great California glow that I love in 80's / 90's films.
Watched it today, 10/10 transfer for me, the clarity and detail is there along with that rich film look we all crave, and the colour grading and hdr is spot on. The highlights of the transfer for me where the practical fx scenes of the 101 in the factory, you could make out every single scratch and tiny detail on it and the metal looked like you could just reach out and touch it, very happy with this transfer indeed.

i dont like what happened to the color. that cold blue in night scenes is half of the visual aesthetic of T1 and T2. its still there but the flesh tones are bumped up too much. it feels artificially enhanced.
Most scenes look fantastic but I think some scenes are too strong in colour , too saturated I should say if that makes sense to anyone . Brilliant job nonetheless and we’ve finally got the Mono . Like when Arnies at that phone booth when he slings that geezer out the way and he’s checking the book it’s too strong
Well, the 4k is in HDR and this video is in SDR, so it had to be "converted" in order to view an image that is comparable to the SDR version. And that conversion inevitably messes with the saturation. It can give you a rough estimate for sure, but unless you're watching it in HDR, you can't really judge the saturation 100% because some scenes can be a bit oversaturated and others can be a bit desaturated.
Thank you so much for the side by side comparison! I just received my 4K copy today! I am very, very pleased. Now, after seeing this, T2 seriously needs a redo on the 4K! Just not a good transfer on that 4K edition for such an iconic movie. It deserves much, much better.
Everyone is talking about the picture, what about the Atmos/dts-x/5.1-7.1 or mono sound. Hoped they gave this movie an upgraded sound. Such as DTS-X with a 7.1 and a 5.1, for purest a two channel stereo and a Mono track sound. I have the Blu-ray version and it gave me (PCM 5.1 16 bit unprocessed and two channel stereo and Mono channel).
Hi, just here to say that the 2013 edition screencaps are not accurate at all. I checked myself on my own copy of this edition and the screencaps that you display to compare with the new 4K master are too blurry & the contrast level is too low. On the actual 2013 remaster, the image is much more grainy, less green and with much more clarity & contrast than your screencaps in your video. Where do they really come from these 2013 screencaps in your video ? My moonization did photoshopped them to create a bigger gap of quality compared to the new 4k master ? That's what i'm asking myself.
Hi Paul To reassure you, I haven't touched anything at all and even less with Photoshop. So don’t make up stories or give false information. However, two things must be understood. The first is that there is a clear difference between the two versions and to tell the truth I really like the 2013 version, there is no doubt about it. Second. is that each television does not emit the same colorimetry due to calibration, on UA-cam there can be differences in terms of coherence sometimes and quality, not to mention the latter. HDR could also play a role in this and therefore on the image quality of the 2013 version. You have to combine all of this to understand the complexity of the thing. Thank U !
I've heard it's awesome on 4k. but Iam sorry to say that these comparison images for the most part the 4k colours look pumped and unnatural. I am sure it won't look like like a cartoon when I watch on my set up.
Thank God it's not a Teal soaked nightmare! The skintones may be a little oversaturated but it's nothing a quick few button pushes won't fix. This looks pretty amazing! 🥰🥰🥰
You know the teal was originally intended and the film stock they used help enhance this intended look. This was a signature looknfor many early Cameron films and many film in the 80s had a simlar look as well.
@@Tidbitkid *in best Arnie voice* Wrong. The Teal was a subtle hue used in the background to enhance the gritty atmosphere in this film, but wasn't supposed to be prevalent everywhere. In the sequel the Cinematographic colour palette was changed to a revolutionary "Fire and Ice" theme using rich warm bright orange tones on cool electric blue dark hues. Yet in the 4K "remaster" it looked like the footage had been thrown into a stagnant swamp and had gone rotten with the excessive Teal wash. It was not present at all in the real og T2. The use of Teal in modern moviemaking is used to hide lazy CGI compositing with green screen effects and always looks hideous and out of place making people look like putrid green Zombies with mouldy skintones. It's cheap and ugly. Thank goodness they didn't go this route here. The Terminator is a masterpiece that deserves careful restoration and preservation.
I am so excited to get the steelbook. I also want the slip cover copy to watch to death like every other physical copy of The Terminator, Aliens, T2 and Titanic
There is literally no extra detail, especially in bright areas, it's the same master tweaked here and there. Blown out whites are still blown out, just like the other Cameron releases including avatar.
no it isn't there's a ton of in depth analysis on other forums. there's a ton of AI oddities present in this release. It's an Ai upscaled mess. Not as bad as Aliens, Abyss, and True Lies 4Ks but still not an upgrade lol
@@omanimitokanimi7976 it's not an upgrade when text on the upscale is just garbled text that is unreadable in most instances when it looked better on a previous release. The mono mix included also is lower quality than the laserdisc mono. That's pathetic. It's completely false to claim this is an upgrade. The Ai has messed up faces in certain points of the film where it is more noticeable. The AI is just let loose with wanton upscaling and fake detail along with a a more DNR'd appearance. It's not even a new scan. We really deserve the bare minimum and this doesn't even accomplish that.
I just want to say, i want to boast and brag a little. But as great as this upgrade is, my OLED TV and incredible 4K upscale player can make the old Terminator DVD look like a freaking Blu-ray. I cant wait to see what happens when I put the new 4K copy in to that machine
It’s still a DVD. It doesn’t add detail or have a higher bit depth. Its just the same 480p image scaled to 4k. It doesnt add the benefits of blu ray or 4k. True blu rays and 4k( if done properly) will always beat DVD.
looks much better than 2013 edition. it is sad that noone doing a fullframe restorations. I have a scratchy old 35mm scan - there are 20% more inforamtion on the screen.
these screenshots are nowhere near what's on the UK 4K Disc. These colours are overly saturated and overcooked. Has there been a different release for the US? Or what has gone wrong with those Screenshots? They look totally rubish.
Well Dear Frank, thank you for this frankness coming from you. However, you should know that on UA-cam there are some problems and we do not necessarily find 100%, which is supposed to be shown on 4 K disk. To give you an example on Firefox, the colors are much more intense whereas when I look from Safari, we no longer find the same colorimetry. so forgive me, but my videos are as close to reality as possible. However, I am sorry that you do not like it.
@Mymoonization it's not that i dont like it. It is that there are other Screenshot comparisons of Terminator on UA-cam which ARE in fact accurate. So UA-cam is not the problem. How do you make those Screenshots? The way they are now is just not in any way a help in deciding whether to buy the Disc or not. Because the Disc doesn't look anyway near. Take, for example, one of the first shots of the yellow lorry. In yor comparison the 4K Disc is far too bright. By such an extend that there are no recognizable details on its surface anymore. In fact the 4k Disc does show MORE details there than the old blu-ray. So those shots are pointless.
You say the problem is not from UA-cam. Alright. But I will point out one thing to you, which is that the so-called comparisons you are talking about are not in HDR, that makes the difference. Each television emits its own colorimetry and contrasts and many other specificities. So if you find that my screenshots are useless, I happily accept and at the same time I respect your opinion. But in any case what is certain is that when we look at the number of people who liked the video and who commented, in a more positive way, I think you cannot deny it. I'm fully aware that your screenshots were created in HDR and uploaded to UA-cam in HDR, but that doesn't make them more accurate. I wanted to attach three images for you. One shows the screenshot from your comparison, played on an LG G4 OLED with professional calibration in HDR HLG. The second shows the UHD Blu-ray in Dolby Vision, played on the same TV. Additionally, there’s an image where I’ve split Arnold in the middle from top to bottom to directly show the difference. Another triangle has been cropped starting from the right to highlight the overly red face of the left character, and the color differences on the ceiling or the arm of the right character. But I did not know, that YT does not allow uploading pictures in commentary posts. But anyway: If your images were accurate in HDR, they should be close to the 4K UHD Blu-ray on an HDR TV. But they couldn’t be further apart. Skin tones are still sunburned red, and there’s a strong magenta look across the entire image, which is never visible when playing the 4K UHD Blu-ray. It may be that UA-cam apps behave differently, but in this form, your comparison is so far from the original that it can’t be used as a reference. Hello Frank Indeed it is correct that there is a more magenta tone on certain faces but the problem mainly comes from the YT applications. Because by testing it for myself with my LG OLED I noticed a much more natural skin tone. Unfortunately I don't have an explanation for this.

Sadly missing from the Fox/MGM Blu-ray is the Terminator: A Retrospective featurette (SD - 20:30), which was actually produced by Carolco Home Video and distributed by Live Home Video on VHS back in the day. Audio-wise, the 4K disc offers a new English Dolby Atmos mix that sounds terrific and is full of muscular bluster. The stage is bigger and more immersive than ever before, with lots of active directional cues and panning. But it also sounds far more modern than the film’s original theatrical mono audio experience, and there’s definitely been a few sound effects upgrades (not unlike the 5.1 mix on the Fox Blu-ray release from 2013) that may prove controversial. Thankfully, the 4K disc also includes that original theatrical audio in DTS-HD MA 2.0 mono-and as far as I can tell it is indeed the original mix.
It looks really good, however I saw this as a kid in the late 80s (as one of my earliest and in retrospect one of my biggest movie influence), so I'll always prefer the slightly grainy, blurry "80s-look".🙃
I'm an 80s kid too, I watched this in the late 80s on TV when I was 5 years old. I couldn't remember a damn thing about the way it actually looked and I have a good memory. I'll take the 4k version ALL DAY LONG.

I wasn't much older either (~7) and I don't think I have a very good memory (average) but I still have vivid memories of the movie, so it seems to be an individual thing. Part of my preference is obviously nostalgia. As I wrote, this looks nice (4k) but I prefer the "grainier" visuals. Another example of this is the Blade Runner. That doesn't mean I want to see this exclusively on crappy VHS. :) VHS and 4k are the two ends of the scale.
Well you're right, but this does not warn of my video specifically but rather of UA-cam I noticed that on different televisions we do not see the same colorimetry so don't worry, you will not have this result if you had to buy it

Outside of detail, which is astounding... I'd say that from my memory of seeing it in the theater back in the day, the BD color grading is more accurate. The new color does look better, but it's revisionist. Terminator was never a 'pretty' film. It was grungy and low budget and a bit sloppy.
This looks like a mixed bag..Defiantly not as processed as aliens and T2 (this even has retained some Grain)but there has clearly been some AI enhancement ...also hearing this is just a upscale (with HDR applied)from the 2013 Blu Ray..

Watched this on a 65S90C (QD OLED) and 77C2 (WOLED). Useless observations: -black level is improved across the board, most noticeable during the opening future war and Reese running from the cops. -detail is more noticeable in the close up of the garbage truck driver’s face and the peeling paint on the truck. -some light DNR but not overused to the point of losing detail. Natural film grain is still present. -HDR colors are vastly improved with more depth and volume. -one flaw is that skin tones are too pumped up. Everyone looks unnaturally tanned particularly when the 800 stands up out of the time bubble. I’m curious what this 4K transfer looks like in motion. Also I’ve read that the Atmos track is unimpressive, this is mostly a front stage stereo presentation with little to no overhead object audio and not much LFE.
You're absolutely right, but only a few years ago I was doing a lot with Dolby Vision and it was taking a lot of time. Therefore, I make it as simple as possible: HDR and HLG !
Quick comment. Unless Cameron re-mastered the entire film on a native 4 -K format. Which would have been RED The best he could have done, is up scale it from the original film negative. Film had a native resolution of 1125 frames. HD. TV. is 1080. So, where does the 2160 P signal come from? 4K native. THE color gambit was changed to 10 bit, and went to HDR. (wider dynamic range) But it's not 4-K . THE sound. Big difference. That's a five star.
To be my only considered and ordered 4K from Warner/Jim, I had some crtisism to Jim about his former releases and this one is my only favorite film to be honest so Im glad I never bought his other movies on 4K, I was pleasantly suprised; despite being an upscale from the bluray. At 15:18, those eyes looks scarier now on the cyborg 😵💫 Plus for the Mono track! 4/5 or 5/5 if the people were less overly sunburned in the outdoor scenes; one can propably turn off HDR then it should be perfect for 5/5.
This wasn’t an upscale, wether it was a new 4K master or the used the previous master, the previous master was a 4K master. I agree tho, the skin tones are the one flaw of this, but considering the movie otherwise looks as it should, I literally can’t complain! I imagine the Dolby Vision looks way better too, probably does more justice to the skin tones
If they do T2 in 4k how do they deal with the cgi effects. Far as i know they would not have been remdered above 1080 in res so even an original print wouldnt be 4k in those sections. Are they simply upscaled?
@ hi, what do the emojis mean? The cgi effects in T2 from 1991 would have rendered out at no higher than 1080 and then printed to film with a film recorder. The cgi elements have never existed above this resolution to my knowledge?
@@MarCuseus take a 1080 res image and print it on film. Bow blow it up on a projector. The printed element does not suddenly gain more detail. This is the exact problem star trek mext gen had when they wanted to release bluray. The effects elements that were cgi were only rendered out at 480p . The actual show was shot in film. So they actually went and recreated all the cgi again at a higher res for the release.
I don't understand why these "never 4k" people always come straight to these 4k Review/comparison videos and make negative comments. Just go watch your VHS and leave us alone.
This is actually really impressive, yes there are still some AI scenes done here but absolutely nothing like the other JC films, colours, and blacks are done well, and 100 times better than the previous washed out blu ray, grain is still present which will please us grain fans here like myself, great looking disc, i just hope that JC does this to the re done T2 film also, will hopefully see this next yr
So it looks like there was a little bit of DNR applied, but not very much? Maybe the grain just looks bigger on the blu ray perhaps. Either way, the overall viewing experience here is fantastic!
I think I can still see some signs of AI tampering (specifically the lettering on the Griffith Observatory in the 4K version looks wonky and off-size), but otherwise this is well done. Black levels appear to be nice and deep, detail and grain are retained and nothing looks like a Madame Tussaud wax figure. Solid marks.
Ironically, the deleterious effect the AI upscaling had on Arnold's face at 2:40 could be considered an asset in that particular instance since it "shows" an imperfection in the production of that Terminator model versus a human! Perhaps they should have changed the script "the early models had rubber skin and were east to spot, the current models improved on that but the eyes are still look fake!!".

4K EDITION WINS!
Nobody is forcing you to upgrade.. I can sympathize with the people complaining about the Skynet artifacts lol just finished watching on my Sony X800-M2 and WOW the film looks incredible in 4k.. no complaints over here.. I personally believe it was one hell of an upgrade, the resolution and colors look amazing in person
Skin tones and faces still don't look right in the 4K edition. They seem like wax sculptures of people and everyone looks red faced like they're sick with the fever.
The 2006 version looks better to me.
Just from the look of this, you can tell Cameron had zero involvement in it which is a good thing. Actual grain, natural sharpness, authentic color. Great transfer.

It looks really well for the most part.
Darks and shadows in the opening are spot on. It's not too dark distracting it from the sci-fi cannons.
The police station is way off for my liking.
Colours seem hot and saturated, running more into the red spectrum.
I'll hang on to my 2006 blu ray edition. It's still by far the most faithful.
Each transfer after seems to lose that smokey, pedestrian, concrete grey atmosphere.
The scene when Sarah Connor is going to work on the bike have that great California glow that I love in 80's / 90's films.
Watched it today, 10/10 transfer for me, the clarity and detail is there along with that rich film look we all crave, and the colour grading and hdr is spot on. The highlights of the transfer for me where the practical fx scenes of the 101 in the factory, you could make out every single scratch and tiny detail on it and the metal looked like you could just reach out and touch it, very happy with this transfer indeed.

i dont like what happened to the color. that cold blue in night scenes is half of the visual aesthetic of T1 and T2. its still there but the flesh tones are bumped up too much. it feels artificially enhanced.
Most scenes look fantastic but I think some scenes are too strong in colour , too saturated I should say if that makes sense to anyone . Brilliant job nonetheless and we’ve finally got the Mono . Like when Arnies at that phone booth when he slings that geezer out the way and he’s checking the book it’s too strong
You could try turning down the contrast brightness or saturation a bit if that makes sense.

Well, the 4k is in HDR and this video is in SDR, so it had to be "converted" in order to view an image that is comparable to the SDR version. And that conversion inevitably messes with the saturation. It can give you a rough estimate for sure, but unless you're watching it in HDR, you can't really judge the saturation 100% because some scenes can be a bit oversaturated and others can be a bit desaturated.

Now, after seeing this, T2 seriously needs a redo on the 4K! Just not a good transfer on that 4K edition for such an iconic movie. It deserves much, much better.

Everyone is talking about the picture, what about the Atmos/dts-x/5.1-7.1 or mono sound. Hoped they gave this movie an upgraded sound. Such as DTS-X with a 7.1 and a 5.1, for purest a two channel stereo and a Mono track sound. I have the Blu-ray version and it gave me (PCM 5.1 16 bit unprocessed and two channel stereo and Mono channel).
It's Atmos but there saying it's top notch and demo worthy!!
It's like somebody took the best aspects of The Terminator's color timing on DVD and gave it a brand-new face lift in HDR
Magnificent transfer, what an upgrade
Hi, just here to say that the 2013 edition screencaps are not accurate at all. I checked myself on my own copy of this edition and the screencaps that you display to compare with the new 4K master are too blurry & the contrast level is too low. On the actual 2013 remaster, the image is much more grainy, less green and with much more clarity & contrast than your screencaps in your video. Where do they really come from these 2013 screencaps in your video ? My moonization did photoshopped them to create a bigger gap of quality compared to the new 4k master ? That's what i'm asking myself.

To reassure you, I haven't touched anything at all and even less with Photoshop. So don’t make up stories or give false information. However, two things must be understood. The first is that there is a clear difference between the two versions and to tell the truth I really like the 2013 version, there is no doubt about it. Second. is that each television does not emit the same colorimetry due to calibration, on UA-cam there can be differences in terms of coherence sometimes and quality, not to mention the latter. HDR could also play a role in this and therefore on the image quality of the 2013 version. You have to combine all of this to understand the complexity of the thing. Thank U !
I've heard it's awesome on 4k. but Iam sorry to say that these comparison images for the most part the 4k colours look pumped and unnatural. I am sure it won't look like like a cartoon when I watch on my set up.

You know the teal was originally intended and the film stock they used help enhance this intended look. This was a signature looknfor many early Cameron films and many film in the 80s had a simlar look as well.

The Teal was a subtle hue used in the background to enhance the gritty atmosphere in this film, but wasn't supposed to be prevalent everywhere. In the sequel the Cinematographic colour palette was changed to a revolutionary "Fire and Ice" theme using rich warm bright orange tones on cool electric blue dark hues. Yet in the 4K "remaster" it looked like the footage had been thrown into a stagnant swamp and had gone rotten with the excessive Teal wash. It was not present at all in the real og T2. The use of Teal in modern moviemaking is used to hide lazy CGI compositing with green screen effects and always looks hideous and out of place making people look like putrid green Zombies with mouldy skintones.
It's cheap and ugly.
Thank goodness they didn't go this route here.
The Terminator is a masterpiece that deserves careful restoration and preservation.

There is literally no extra detail, especially in bright areas, it's the same master tweaked here and there. Blown out whites are still blown out, just like the other Cameron releases including avatar.

no it isn't there's a ton of in depth analysis on other forums. there's a ton of AI oddities present in this release. It's an Ai upscaled mess. Not as bad as Aliens, Abyss, and True Lies 4Ks but still not an upgrade lol
I hate AI remasters too, but this is an upgrade even if not perfect
@@omanimitokanimi7976 it's not an upgrade when text on the upscale is just garbled text that is unreadable in most instances when it looked better on a previous release. The mono mix included also is lower quality than the laserdisc mono. That's pathetic. It's completely false to claim this is an upgrade. The Ai has messed up faces in certain points of the film where it is more noticeable. The AI is just let loose with wanton upscaling and fake detail along with a a more DNR'd appearance. It's not even a new scan. We really deserve the bare minimum and this doesn't even accomplish that.

I just want to say, i want to boast and brag a little. But as great as this upgrade is, my OLED TV and incredible 4K upscale player can make the old Terminator DVD look like a freaking Blu-ray. I cant wait to see what happens when I put the new 4K copy in to that machine
It’s still a DVD. It doesn’t add detail or have a higher bit depth. Its just the same 480p image scaled to 4k. It doesnt add the benefits of blu ray or 4k. True blu rays and 4k( if done properly) will always beat DVD.

looks much better than 2013 edition. it is sad that noone doing a fullframe restorations. I have a scratchy old 35mm scan - there are 20% more inforamtion on the screen.
these screenshots are nowhere near what's on the UK 4K Disc. These colours are overly saturated and overcooked. Has there been a different release for the US? Or what has gone wrong with those Screenshots? They look totally rubish.
Well Dear Frank, thank you for this frankness coming from you. However, you should know that on UA-cam there are some problems and we do not necessarily find 100%, which is supposed to be shown on 4 K disk. To give you an example on Firefox, the colors are much more intense whereas when I look from Safari, we no longer find the same colorimetry. so forgive me, but my videos are as close to reality as possible. However, I am sorry that you do not like it.

not the problem. How do you make those Screenshots?
The way they are now is just not in any way a help in deciding whether to buy the Disc or not. Because the Disc doesn't look anyway near. Take, for example, one of the first shots of the yellow lorry. In yor comparison the 4K Disc is far too bright. By such an extend that there are no recognizable details on its surface anymore. In fact the 4k Disc does show MORE details there than the old blu-ray. So those shots are pointless.
You say the problem is not from UA-cam. Alright. But I will point out one thing to you, which is that the so-called comparisons you are talking about are not in HDR, that makes the difference. Each television emits its own colorimetry and contrasts and many other specificities. So if you find that my screenshots are useless, I happily accept and at the same time I respect your opinion. But in any case what is certain is that when we look at the number of people who liked the video and who commented, in a more positive way, I think you cannot deny it. Thank you in any case for your comment !!
I'm fully aware that your screenshots were created in HDR and uploaded to UA-cam in HDR, but that doesn't make them more accurate.
I wanted to attach three images for you. One shows the screenshot from your comparison, played on an LG G4 OLED with professional calibration in HDR HLG. The second shows the UHD Blu-ray in Dolby Vision, played on the same TV.
Additionally, there’s an image where I’ve split Arnold in the middle from top to bottom to directly show the difference. Another triangle has been cropped starting from the right to highlight the overly red face of the left character, and the color differences on the ceiling or the arm of the right character.
But I did not know, that YT does not allow uploading pictures in commentary posts.
But anyway: If your images were accurate in HDR, they should be close to the 4K UHD Blu-ray on an HDR TV. But they couldn’t be further apart. Skin tones are still sunburned red, and there’s a strong magenta look across the entire image, which is never visible when playing the 4K UHD Blu-ray. It may be that UA-cam apps behave differently, but in this form, your comparison is so far from the original that it can’t be used as a reference. Indeed it is correct that there is a more magenta tone on certain faces but the problem mainly comes from the YT applications. Because by testing it for myself with my LG OLED I noticed a much more natural skin tone. Unfortunately I don't have an explanation for this.

The deleted scenes were on the original MGM DVD Special Edition from 2001. Creating the Terminator was included on the 2013 Fox Blu-ray, while both The Terminator: Closer to the Real Thing and Unstoppable Force: The Legacy of the Terminator are from the 2005 UK Definitive Edition DVD release.
Sadly missing from the Fox/MGM Blu-ray is the Terminator: A Retrospective featurette (SD - 20:30), which was actually produced by Carolco Home Video and distributed by Live Home Video on VHS back in the day. And missing from 2001 MGM DVD are the Other Voices: Back Through Time - Creating The Terminator documentary (SD - 60:19), The Making of The Terminator: A Retrospective (SD - 18:10 - this is different than the Carolco piece), multiple storyboards and stills galleries (including James Cameron Artwork, Production Photos, Stan Winston Effects, Fantasy II: Visual Effects, and Publicity Materials), James Cameron’s original story treatment, the film’s teaser trailer, theatrical trailer, international trailer, 2 TV spots, and Easter eggs. So be sure to keep those discs if you want everything.

There are 2 sfx problems in the movie. 1st is at the precinct and 2nd is at the factory. Has 4k version fixed those or not?😮
Audio-wise, the 4K disc offers a new English Dolby Atmos mix that sounds terrific and is full of muscular bluster. The stage is bigger and more immersive than ever before, with lots of active directional cues and panning. But it also sounds far more modern than the film’s original theatrical mono audio experience, and there’s definitely been a few sound effects upgrades (not unlike the 5.1 mix on the Fox Blu-ray release from 2013) that may prove controversial. Thankfully, the 4K disc also includes that original theatrical audio in DTS-HD MA 2.0 mono-and as far as I can tell it is indeed the original mix.
It looks really good, however I saw this as a kid in the late 80s (as one of my earliest and in retrospect one of my biggest movie influence), so I'll always prefer the slightly grainy, blurry "80s-look".🙃
I have it on dvd. I used to watch it on VHS so I like the crappy look. This version looks too colourful and crisp..
I'm an 80s kid too, I watched this in the late 80s on TV when I was 5 years old. I couldn't remember a damn thing about the way it actually looked and I have a good memory. I'll take the 4k version ALL DAY LONG.
@@Bigtymer781 Of course, it's a matter of choice. I wasn't much older either (~7) and I don't think I have a very good memory (average) but I still have vivid memories of the movie, so it seems to be an individual thing. Part of my preference is obviously nostalgia. As I wrote, this looks nice (4k) but I prefer the "grainier" visuals. Another example of this is the Blade Runner. That doesn't mean I want to see this exclusively on crappy VHS. :) VHS and 4k are the two ends of the scale.

Well you're right, but this does not warn of my video specifically but rather of UA-cam I noticed that on different televisions we do not see the same colorimetry so don't worry, you will not have this result if you had to buy it

Being that I loath the push of teal, in addition to the blu lacking the original mono soundtrack, the 4K is worthy of purchasing.
Too sharp sometimes, which makes it look less filmic and more Aliens-like.

Outside of detail, which is astounding... I'd say that from my memory of seeing it in the theater back in the day, the BD color grading is more accurate. The new color does look better, but it's revisionist. Terminator was never a 'pretty' film. It was grungy and low budget and a bit sloppy.
This looks like a mixed bag..Defiantly not as processed as aliens and T2 (this even has retained some Grain)but there has clearly been some AI enhancement ...also hearing this is just a upscale (with HDR applied)from the 2013 Blu Ray..

Watched this on a 65S90C (QD OLED) and 77C2 (WOLED). Useless observations:
-black level is improved across the board, most noticeable during the opening future war and Reese running from the cops.
-detail is more noticeable in the close up of the garbage truck driver’s face and the peeling paint on the truck.
-some light DNR but not overused to the point of losing detail. Natural film grain is still present.
-HDR colors are vastly improved with more depth and volume.
-one flaw is that skin tones are too pumped up. Everyone looks unnaturally tanned particularly when the 800 stands up out of the time bubble.
I’m curious what this 4K transfer looks like in motion. Also I’ve read that the Atmos track is unimpressive, this is mostly a front stage stereo presentation with little to no overhead object audio and not much LFE.

You're absolutely right, but only a few years ago I was doing a lot with Dolby Vision and it was taking a lot of time. Therefore, I make it as simple as possible: HDR and HLG !
Quick comment. Unless Cameron re-mastered the entire film on a native 4 -K format. Which would have been RED The best he could have done, is up scale it from the original film negative. Film had a native resolution of 1125 frames. HD. TV. is 1080. So, where does the 2160 P signal come from? 4K native. THE color gambit was changed to 10 bit, and went to HDR. (wider dynamic range) But it's not 4-K . THE sound. Big difference. That's a five star.

It's... good. Subtle as times but adds a surprising amount of depth and clarity. And I liked the T2 4k Blu-ray.
To be my only considered and ordered 4K from Warner/Jim, I had some crtisism to Jim about his former releases and this one is my only favorite film to be honest so Im glad I never bought his other movies on 4K, I was pleasantly suprised; despite being an upscale from the bluray. At 15:18, those eyes looks scarier now on the cyborg 😵💫 Plus for the Mono track! 4/5 or 5/5 if the people were less overly sunburned in the outdoor scenes; one can propably turn off HDR then it should be perfect for 5/5.
This wasn’t an upscale, wether it was a new 4K master or the used the previous master, the previous master was a 4K master. I agree tho, the skin tones are the one flaw of this, but considering the movie otherwise looks as it should, I literally can’t complain! I imagine the Dolby Vision looks way better too, probably does more justice to the skin tones
I wonder: Could there be theoretically a way rerelease T2 in the same way T1 has been AI altered?

If they do T2 in 4k how do they deal with the cgi effects. Far as i know they would not have been remdered above 1080 in res so even an original print wouldnt be 4k in those sections. Are they simply upscaled?

The cgi effects in T2 from 1991 would have rendered out at no higher than 1080 and then printed to film with a film recorder. The cgi elements have never existed above this resolution to my knowledge?

@@MarCuseus take a 1080 res image and print it on film. Bow blow it up on a projector. The printed element does not suddenly gain more detail. This is the exact problem star trek mext gen had when they wanted to release bluray. The effects elements that were cgi were only rendered out at 480p . The actual show was shot in film. So they actually went and recreated all the cgi again at a higher res for the release.

I don't understand why these "never 4k" people always come straight to these 4k Review/comparison videos and make negative comments. Just go watch your VHS and leave us alone.
This is actually really impressive, yes there are still some AI scenes done here but absolutely nothing like the other JC films, colours, and blacks are done well, and 100 times better than the previous washed out blu ray, grain is still present which will please us grain fans here like myself, great looking disc, i just hope that JC does this to the re done T2 film also, will hopefully see this next yr
So it looks like there was a little bit of DNR applied, but not very much? Maybe the grain just looks bigger on the blu ray perhaps. Either way, the overall viewing experience here is fantastic!
Ok, I'm sold.
I think I can still see some signs of AI tampering (specifically the lettering on the Griffith Observatory in the 4K version looks wonky and off-size), but otherwise this is well done. Black levels appear to be nice and deep, detail and grain are retained and nothing looks like a Madame Tussaud wax figure. Solid marks.
Ironically, the deleterious effect the AI upscaling had on Arnold's face at 2:40 could be considered an asset in that particular instance since it "shows" an imperfection in the production of that Terminator model versus a human! Perhaps they should have changed the script "the early models had rubber skin and were east to spot, the current models improved on that but the eyes are still look fake!!".
