For as long as James Cameron is alive, he won't let that happen. It's the same with the Star Wars theatrical cuts. On the plus side, at least they're scanning the 4K's now before they rot away in some warehouse, so they could just release the unaltered version. That's what Kino Lorber did for The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, just released the original 4K scan that had previously been butchered in post.
I actually saw this in theater last week from 35mm and i was totally blown away how effective that old dirty print was. It was like watching it the very first time. Now none of these prints look right to me!
At 8:05. he looks like Brian Thompson now....haha! Looks horrible compared to the new Warner 4K uhd, W4K ftw! The only thing good about this AI is that the people doesnt look sunburned compared to W4K, one can turn off HDR for the W4K and hopefully will be 5/5! Update! He looks like Brian Thompson in that scene, thought first it was ai:s fault.
The 2013 remaster would be pretty much perfect if it didn't suffer from the Orange-and-Teal colour changes. It's like they went back and made it look like Terminator 2. I'm not a fan of the AI version presented here either: it removes too much detail, including all the film grain, and characters' skin is scrubbed of fine pores and other aspects (see Arnold's hand or Lance Henriksen's face), while deepening wrinkles and adding contrast where it didn't exist originally. As others have noted, it leaves an artificial impression, like a computer game. The scenery and machinery does look sharper in the AI version, but I just want a 4K scan of the original, grain and flaws included 😁 I do appreciate the effort, though, and thanks for putting out the comparison video 😊
True. Seems like the AI treats real footage as ''graphics'' footage. This would make virtual footage (games) looks damn good but for actual humans and environnements, it would need some kind of actual cinematographer input to learn and get that crisp touch to not go too artificial
Skynet is remastering our movies lol Some shots look great but the human closeups look a bit fake. Maybe it’ll better in motion idk. Good work as always Moon!
AI upscale may look waxy, but it is a faithful sharpening of the the original image. What I don’t understand is what is going on with Cameron’s approved AI remasters, where there are scenes with fine detail that’s completely new, not merely noise removal and edge sharpening. How are they doing that? Those next gen algorithms are already surfacing, where it really makes up detail from learned sources. Makes you think there are more interesting creative ways to train these models than simply “faithful” restoration of old stuff
Étant donné qu’on est en 2024, ça peut être l’occasion pour que ce film sorte dans une édition avec spéciale anniversaire. Mais toutefois, aucune info pour l’instant. Merci pour votre commentaire.
Not made my mind up about these AI upscales and I won’t until I see them but I’m definitely in two minds about them. One one hand it looks great but on the other it looks kind of artificial/fake/smooth/video game-like. I do however think that the 2013 Blu Ray already looks great and from this comparison I’d rather see that restored in 4k hdr which would be a better overall result?
Sadly, this AI version is essentially what we're now getting with Cameron's new 4K remaster of The Terminator. Its also got a new Dolby Atmos track, leaving the original Mono pretty much lost to time.
All I wish is for the 4k to be struck from the 2008 blu ray, it's the most closest looking to how it was shown theatrically. The colour timing is all wrong for The remastered version and the AI version just looks worse
Very interesting comparison! A.I. version add much in term of sharpness and contrast which is super, but in the other hand, remove to much grain, which is very bad so all surfaces look way to clean, waxy style, specially looking at the mountains in the last image.
I don't like the remastered blu ray, it looks glossy. The original blu ray is more balanced. I dig the 4k upscale but I'm going to be super disappointed if the official release leaves out the mono audio yet again
The long wait, until AI can upscale all of my 480p dvds to 4K live, without cheating by finding the 4K version online as a source it will 'learn' from..
Who is making these A.I. upscales, and what software are they using, as it does not look like any commercially available software I have used. The results are far more natural, and have none of the usual artifacts. Almost like somebody has rescanned the negative, and not used A.I. whatsoever…
You're certainly right to point out that cinematically, grain is essential to films in general. However, it is a technological progress that must be accepted or not in my opinion. Because in reality if we want to go in this direction, that is to say increase the resolution, we must also accept that in reality, our eyes do not see any grain and therefore, what I show in this video, perhaps gives the answer is future technology that will undoubtedly take a long time to accept but that one day we will have to admit that it is that and not otherwise. Just look at the history of cinema and the technology used for over 100 years. There is neither evil nor scandal in all this. It's just a matter of taste and stylistic and artistic preference. And it shouldn't be surprising that there are directors who are taking this direction because I think it's the way to go if you want to achieve better visual qualities. Anyway thanks for your comment !
The AI looks terribly plasticky, oversharpened and unnaturally smooth. All the organic grain, fine details have been removed. It's a travesty. The 2013 edition looks to be the best of the bunch, image quality wise. i am not an expert on the colour timing though.
Well, that's just awful.. The teal and orange look nearly every movie today receives is just wrong.. Absolutely sure we will get a new color grade for many movies in a couple of years. Also, the upscale version looks so bad in many shots.. Like a waxy or Aquarelle version of the movie. The punks at the beginning even recieved plastic hairs with that upscale
Some of the scenes are impressive, but the upscaling scrubs the grain. Everyone looks waxy and artificial. Cameron would approve.
Interesting fact. Lord of the Rings in 4K looks also some kind of waxy.
When you say waxy it looks to me like everything & everyone look like video game type 3d models
It's 40 yrs this year, and we need this on 4k. Hope kino, arrow video ect can pick this up
Warner will pick this up this year
@@LuniMW hope so , and a collector edition would be nice ( uk)

@EnterTheSoundscape well it's happening the 4k is released this yr
@@davefilms345 Yeah but it’s not what we’re talking about. A proper 4K disc, not one that’s AI upscaled.
Very impressive upscale Moon and thanks for your hard work as usual ❤!!!!!!!!!!
Own the remastered and it's a very good effort, the upscaled look great, a little bit clean, but great nevertheless. Thanks Moon!

Is the upscale on disc ? I think it looks awesome, what you loose in grain-fine detail is more than made up with beautiful contrast and colour.
This is only a demo of what the future edition for this film could possibly be !
@@Mymoonization oh thanks , I hope its as good as the demo you're showing as it looks amazing.
@@Mymoonizationdid you do this AI version yoursef then? Very impressive
The AI version over-sharpens the edges and over-smooths the details, imo.

Your 100% correct & if you ever used the detail slider in Photoshop it does the exact same thing!
10:14 Prine example of the Blu-rays horrible teal tint
Skynet is remastering our movies lol Some shots look great but the human closeups look a bit fake. Maybe it’ll better in motion idk. Good work as always Moon!
haha well said 😂😂😂 the movie is becoming self aware
This looks amazing here's hoping cami does he proud ??!! 💞💞👍👍🙏😻

12:08 wow, goodbye grain.... 😮
At 21:35, a matte painting inside a matte painting :D
Sadly, this AI version is essentially what we're now getting with Cameron's new 4K remaster of The Terminator. Its also got a new Dolby Atmos track, leaving the original Mono pretty much lost to time.
Interestingly, you are judging a 4K remaster 3 months before its release.

I have seen a 4k A.I. Upscaled of the terminator wich is 2 or 3 years old. Is it a new one (better)?
Much better as you can see !
@@Mymoonization That's the problem actually, i can't see much on my old laptop. But thank you, I will find this and watch it on My BenQ HT4550i 😉

2006 has the colour, remaster has the look, AI 4k has no nothing. Take that skynet.
Bah non so, molto belle le immagini in 4k AI ma perde completamente il feeling della pellicola, sembra quasi un videogioco
Where do I find the AI upscale version?
Hey Mark
This is my personal work.
Also, my next comparison will be Judge Dredd via A.I.
Thank you for your interest.
Cheers !

Part of the grit of Terminator is the film grain. Getting rid of it lessons the dystopian cinematography.

Taking away grain, character and texture is the cinema equivalent of Botox, a facelift and a toupee. Let classic films be their charming selves.
0:14 Once again, the original color timing is butchered and replaced with a stupid teal tint. I wish this trend would die.
A.I upscaling makes it look like the cgi Arnold from Salvation. I'd rather keep the blu ray we have than that, looks like utter arse.
I prefer the AI in most of these still examples, but I’d love to see the actual video to determine what looks best
this video isn't HDR tho
Hold your horses and wait for the video to do its process on UA-cam, because it's a long video and HDR processing is in progress ok !!!
The Colourgrading in 2006 so much better, more realstic!
In 2013- present looks terrible!
Looks faker, that's for sure. I'm sure in motion it would be the typical uncanny grotesquery. Down with A.I.
Pffff!!!!!
AI 4K version is my least favorite - just look at the blue hair at 6:05.
My choice is the 4K AI upscaled version. Not comparing to 2006 version and Remastered version.

Pretty waxy, like T2.
Awful. Thanks for showing this, Ai upscaling is awful
The "AI" images are an abomination.
Ai upscale for the win, to bady 8ts only 4k not requaler blu ray as far as I know
4k is better
