Poker Hands - Dan Colman CAN'T FOLD... Or Can He?

- Опубліковано 16 жов 2024
- We're back at the 2016 WSOP Main Event, with none other than the Big One For One Drop winner Dan Colman. He has played high stakes poker against the toughest competition, staring down the likes of Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Fedor Holz, and many others.
Today his opponent is an amateur who won a satellite to the big dance. Maybe he could even make it to the 2016 World Series of Poker final table and recapture the glory of Chris Moneymaker. But he'll have to get through Dan Colman first. He puts Dan in a very tough spot with a hand that Colman claims he can not fold! But live poker is a fickle beast, and you can't always believe what you hear.
As always, Doug Polk breaks down each street of action. Poker Hands is the show where Doug analyzes live poker hands from tv poker shows such as Poker After Dark, EPT (European Poker Tour), High Stakes Poker, the Aussie Millions, WPT (World Poker Tour) the Big One For One Drop, and the PCA (Pokerstars Carribean Adventure). He especially enjoys reviewing hands by big name online pros like Tom Dwan, Viktor Blom, and Dan Cates (Jungleman).

You see the guy who asks if Colman had an 8? That's the guy I bluff postflop the next 5 times I get to.
That was a mistake for him to say that to the table. I'm sure everyone else was thinking what you just said
He was trollin
Well he knew you were gonna do that so he said that to throw out a false tell.
Yeah that guy was playing 17k/17k USD heads up in the Wynn in Macau
The fact you have to pick your players shows you are trash, scared to play people on your level that’s pussy shit
Mistake on the turn, I have no idea why I said Ten of Spades. It is the King of Spades (obv). Will put a note, I am but a lowly human!

Hey Doug, big fan! :D just out of curiosity, how much do you charge for your online courses?
Get it together man!
boo jay, its more like calling an allin with AK only to realise the K was in fact a T
(edit: i missspelled allin (alling)
Please do Robl/Kirk super high roller hand sometime
Did you have an 8?
WTF, how does someone go that deep with zero hand reading ability.
That's not someone who has zero hand reading ability, that's someone who is scared shitless because of being so deep in the main. He's clearly ready to make huge laydowns and he thinks everyone is in that mindset.
+OsefKincaid Just maybe he's a genius knowing what image he'll percieve after sayin that, so people make moves on him & he can snap them off ! A reverse speech tell you can say, doesn't look nearly as suspicious as body tells which every pro fakes nowdays.
+Galaxy Cop Normally wouldn't suspect some dude would purposely do that but seems kinda weird he put him on 8s
im pretty sure he's a regular in macau...
that kid is backed by very big backer and plays biggest games in macau, your read is way off
"show the bluff, show at least one card" haha desperate colman has no idea what the amateur is doing. he is clearly pissed.
he's mad the way he played it
Can you do the hand "Mike Sexton makes sick call against Matusow" next. I dont understand how Sexton finds that call.
Lol... Doug, is that a picture of Phil Ivey on your wall?
Doug, if you're Pons and you have QQ here, what do you do on the K turn? These spots confuse me, as I'm not sure if I should still just shove turn or if i should be checking back 100% and bluff catch/maybe make a thin value bet on river.
Hey Doug I've watched a bunch of your hand analyses and a common point you tend to make is keeping a balanced range to avoid people from exploiting you. What is your thought of range balancing vs recreational players who are not thinking of exploiting you. Do you think that you can enhance your edge by playing less balanced vs this particular type of opponent. I'm especially interested in your point of view for live cash games where there is a constant flow of recreational players.
Great content, I really appreciate your videoes!!!
Gabriel Perreault
The better the players you play against are, the more GTO you should play. So, against worse players I would say use mostly GTO stuff and sometimes be more exploitable.
Who wants to see doug reviewing Gus hansen quads vs Daniel Negreaunu full house? Felt Daniel could lay it down on the river, but I am not 100% sure.
00:42 Cynn doesn't know it yet, but he is going to win the main in two years from that moment :D
facts
are u gonna play any big live tournament in the end of 2016? and if yes, will you make videos about them soon?
Where do you buy your bronzer?
Hey man! Love your videos. Do you think it's looks " stronger/ better" to bet 1.9 million on turn then jamming? Or is it the same?
99 is really bad holding on this board. From Dan's POV, if Pons had paired any part of that board Dan would be behind. He would also lose to any pocket pair. Otherwise he would be racing against a flush or straight draw. Easy lay down. He only said he couldnt lay it down to see if he could get a clear tell out of Pons.
Isn't folding preflop some of the time a pretty viable option too? I mean you would fold q10o here plenty, right?
Love Coleman's inquiry even without pulling the trigger (making the turn call) always good to make your opponent squirm by asking him questions and staring him down. Feels good lol
Thank you for all your great videos Doug. Great work! Do you think it makes sense to use a strategy where you 3bet ATs preflop here from Pons position? I would much prefer a flat.
+CaracasBob I think both are OK pre. And thanks!
Random question Doug:
How did you learn push/fold lines back when you started poker? Isn't there some books or other stuff than icmizer that are cheaper?
You mean for short stacks in tournaments? You can just google it these days bro, not so back in my day...
sidsa9 In tourney for less than 20BB or in hypers sngs, found nothing online really :/
www.pushfoldcharts.com/fullring/
Couldn't find for over 10BB, if you are any good with Excel you can just do it with Pokerstove and that, and you should be able to get it right to a couple of percent bro.
sidsa9 Aight thanks a lot brother :)
What an awkward time to ask the guy where he is from! What did Dan expect, that the guy to tell him about his childhood?
Dan: Where you from?
Pons: *smirks
Noman Chad: Dan's a master at table talk.
Lon McEachern: Amazing! He convinced me to turn my cards over!
Hey Doug. Love your content. The final hand of EPT Malta 25k high roller 2016 might be a good hand to review.
Loving the vids Doug. When you streaming again? :)
+Jan Henning November 4th most likely
Doug Polk Awesome. Keep up the content, it's very good! :D
marking it in my calendar PogChamp
Is it Phil Ivey on the photo behind you? LOL :)
Why look at that, it certainly looks like it is!
:)
Doug (or anynody that has used the chair), are thoses dxracer chairs worth it?
Yes, very great for posture on long grinds.
Make an analysis on the hand in the aussie millions high roller tourney, where you check raised the river vs phil ivey
Rarely see Colman make a mistake, but that turn card was gin for the semi-bluff. The bettor didn’t mind a call or a fold (prefers the fold, though).
I would find a hand that i beat with 99, and then call IT off.
Thanks for all your tips Doug! keep the content coming!
Nice, recent poker hands > old stuff anyday
+Eestikaz Not always possible, but I like to lean towards that type of content
Cool hand for an analysis. Thanks!
Doug, dude, i love your videos but please don't contain spoilers. I genuinely enjoy watching the ESPN coverage without knowing the result already.
from the LJ which is the position next to the HJ ... *thumbsup*
then you llikely haven't downloaded the preflop guide from USP ...
no, but seriously I thought he was referencing 0:33 and making fun of it
I wasn't to serious about this, but if I was, I would now say that "if someone doesn't know what the LJ is, then what is the likelyhood of him knowing what the HJ is?" also one could ask oneself "if somebody doesn't know what the LJ is, then how much time has he likely spent with poker? is the position then really a valuable piece of information for him?" ... we
Most people call the LJ MP. First time I hear it called LJ myself.
coleman has a similar playstyle like doug, doesnt he? with the call and quick check and potentially calling off wide and shit?
2+2 is going to explode about u making a mistake at 5:37 :(
Holy shit why did I say Ts lol good catch
What happened doug? You used to have such great content. Now it is starting to feel like you've watched too much of KGB and Le Chiffre's playstyles, you've lost it. Why don't you just go play crabs and count the small white dots on the dices. That's probably the only thing ur good for.
Also, can u do a hand review on casino royale final hand, I need to know how bond is so confident in his play that he can risk his whole bankroll (including his life) at the table.
Also, why are we currently back at 2007 when small doug was a losing reg? Give me back the doug who actually liked Jaime Gold.
10 of spades turn? Lol No judgment here I think you are great!! I just got confused for a second
nice poster gg
+Trunks9000 (Trunks17) I love getting the troll game on with the posters
Is that Phil? On the poster.
The poster troll is one of my favorite running joke on this channel
your channel is lit af
You didn't mention Colman could've check raised the flop showing some strenght. Sure it costs him a lot of his stack but it does give him the initiative back which he lost pre-flop.
Falco Hermans thats probably the nut worst line lol
Falco Hermans What worse hand calls him? Or what better hand fold? You get Q10 and 910 (which is a small part of his range as you block it) to fold which are really the only hands in his range you're beating. Sure he can be here with AK/A10/AQ but you don't want them to fold. You want them to continue bluffing.
I think he has to decide on the flop if he's up against an 8 J or over pair. If not he can use his fold equity to get semi bluffs out bc the board often only gets worse. But I admit it's a very tough raise, but it is an option he has. Would've loved to see Colman get a lil deeper.
Falco Hermans you are an idiot
Pons got all loosey goosey eatin his hoodie
omggggg spolier alert at least!!?? i have been watching the wsop chaps waiting to see who made the november nine and you just said PONS made it.... omg im so mad right now, thanks Polk! i love your vids so much but come on!
EFRANEED your life is ruined!!!
lol kind of
EZ call at 25 NL. This is why stakes mean everything. Doug said it himself...He'd call if off. It's what Cassius Chips would do.
1 day before I had the same hand in casino I opened on UTG 99 on blinds 300/600ante100 to 1400 behind me call call and small blind 3-bets to 4100 I called and 2 others folded... flop J106 sb c-bets 4100 and I called(and behind line left me 16500chips) on the turn 7 falled and he shawed I was thinking preflop, on flop that his range from playing with him before is KQ AQ AK but still it is taught to call in this situations and if I fold I still have really good stack so I decided to let this one go. My opponent showed me KQ after... But I was thinking 50/50 fold/call felt that he is bluffing also like Dan but I have to say K is worse card that J in my spot. But it is good to see that pros are making the same decisions...
excellent insights
What are the stack sizes preflop? I usually 4bet jam this hand around 30bb if the villain has some light 3bets in his range? It is very hard to defend hands like 44-99 out of position without initiative.
tolkien11 think they're both deeper than 30bbs
my english is not very good guys, sorry. but tell me pls, is that right deсision?
The answer is yes
O ok, and although I don't understand much, but thanks for your lessons from Russia, Doug
I think is a 50 / 50 call in 90% situation. Here Colman was forced to submit. I'd fold here too.
Time to ask Norman Chad to leave, his commentary isn't up to standard. Get Nick Shulman in.
A pity, Colman did not make the November 9. Instead the douche Josephy. Colman is such a great player and seems to be a cool guy also.
Galaxy Cop really? how so? from
what i've seen he's just a big whiner
Well be honest anyday better than those hoodie/sunglasses "online wizards" suffering from god knows what disorder s...Yea sometimes you standup for something and people heavily judge you for it but I'm inclined to believe he's bit like hellmuth, can come of as a jerk on the table but warm human otherwise.
Could you argue for Coleman to 3 bet here pre flop? Playing 99 out of position is difficult. and given the wide range of hands Fons can easily bet with, you could win the pot right there.
I meant 4 bet. Sorry.
MrPanthers23
You can argue for a 4-bet, however if you get 5-bet you have to fold. Also, by 4-betting you are turning 99 into a bluff, and 99 could very well be the best hand (as it is), so that wouldn't be good either.
Tan game is strong
um ..the turn isnt the ten of spades man.
mark hills really had zero impact on the video considering we can see the fucking cards lol
Thought by the title this was gona be him folding the AA to Sievers set
"The low-jack is next to the hi-jack." WTF is the hi-jack?
it's next to the lojack
Dent one before the cutoff
The turn was the king of spades. Not ten.
doug please. please!
Polker Hands? :\

What’s with Colman blinking like he’s about to have a stroke

Can't wait for you to acknowledge your female fans!!!
I think you'd have a lot more subscribers if you dialed down your cut dialogue scenes to actually seeing the hands, its a prick tease.

Why he folds? This is a standard call.
why does Colman NOTshove pre-flop? I mean , what's the biggest fault about jamming here? he has around 5 million and if he could double up, he would come back. he lost a lot of chips playing the way he did. I know a shove preflop with 5 million will raise a lot of eyebrows, but it could as well raise Colman's odds for winning the tournment (if he could win)
He could also openshove preflop so that nobody 3bet bluffs him...
Or he could play poker. Those are his choices.

He is turning a hand (99) that can very well be the best one here (and guess what? It is) into a bluff. That rarely is a good play.
