- Phil Hellmuth is back in the news with yet another classic "blowup". Despite winning 17 World Series of Poker bracelets and numerous other accomplishments in No Limit Hold'em, he is perhaps best known for his obscene antics at the table. This time it happened at PokerGo studios and resulted in him slamming equipment on to the table. That stuff is expensive!

I didn't know Doug has relatively few subscribers compared to Negreanu and Brad Owen, but it's not surprising. He's kind of a jerk. Yes, he's smart, entertaining, charismatic, and a great poker player, and he does have a decent amount of views and subscribers, but he doesn't seem like a good person. Maybe that's the problem.

This is like during that WSOP with Dan Levy, when Phil openly said "am I tricky enough to play Q-10 this way", then punted to Dan Levy, then berated Levy for playing Q-10 the way Phil openly opined about playing the same hand. If the beats were that bad, his behavior, while still grotesque, would at least be considered smart/honest. But most of his rants are just ridiculous and show literally no knowledge about poker or common sense.

I work at a theatre, acting and directing in plays and musicals in a 1,000 capacity house. We sometimes use 20 wireless mic's in a show. If ours are in the same relative price-range as these, I can vouch for their price tag. Doug, you pose some really great points with behavior at the table. It will be interesting to see how the community continues to respond to this.

I've heard Hellmuth say someone is "out of line" for more years than I can remember. To this day, I can not understand how Hellmuth neglects the fact that he is "out of line" long before the other person finds the line.

I read his book many years ago of his humble beginnings back in Wisconsin, and I get it. It’s insane what he went through and how lucky he got to be where he is.

I’d wager they pay him to blow up for content. Some are natural reactions but most are him playing a character that he thinks he’s supposed to play.
I agree to a certain extent Phil plays it up for his “poker brat” image but I highly doubt a show could pay him to blow up when he’s beaten badly.
He acts the EXACT SAME at non-televised tournaments as he does on TV. It's just who he is.

Doug, we all had a brief chat about this in San Antonio the other day. And like I said at the table with you I’ll say it again, another grown man ever talks to me like that we can step outside and handle it. No need for a ban or anything like that.
ive been working in a casino for 8 years but dealing poker for only 1 year--- this is the attitude of 80% of my players and they get away with it no matter how much we complain
He’s acted the same way for so many years! I’ve seen him get penalties reversed because people are afraid of him. There’s never any consequences for his actions because he’s such a big name. It’s a sad fact that many players just like him get away with behavior like this all the time.
