You did the right thing Christina. Any hobby you can think of is taken up for pleasure not pain. If you force yourself against your instincts it spoils what is supposed to be enjoyable. On the plus side , you did learn something about yourself . You learnt how much you really love Ben and how lucky you are to have him. Anyone who finds their soul mate in this life is truly lucky. Enjoy Indonesia and get ready for some great Indonesian food !!
Thanks!! That's right. Hopefully I wont get fat in Indonesia from eating lol. And i also usually end up in a hospital from bad stomach bug...every single time. Ugh
I've hiked just about all of BMT in GA and it's not for everyone. I'm a trail maintainer, worked today, trails need lopping. The section you did is very isolated and snake infested, so I'm glad your safely out. I would never do what you did alone. Only with my hiking buddy. Be safe ,happy trails
Well done Christina. What a mixture of highs and lows. Thank goodness it had a happy ending! It doesn't matter that you decided to cut short the hike - it will always be there when you want to go back and finish it. Even better, Ben might be at your side too! Looking forward to your next 'holiday'. Take care of Ben - he sounds like he is one in a million! Hugs to Archie and Bobo too. Enjoy.
We have just caught up with your BMT videos. You definitely made the right decision at the end, no need to be so sad. We watched all your walks in the UK and we can see how you enjoyed those. The Peak District is where we have just walked in, you would love it. Villages, rivers, hills and lots of sheep😊. Take care and keep on cracking on…😂
Thunder Rock is where I left off. I can't wait to get back out there and finish up the last 200 miles. The first portion of that trail was hectic, it was difficult, and it was boring at times. I would say the heat and insects didn't help you much. I definitely agree with you. If you're not having fun, then it's time to go. There is one thing I wish I would have known when I started long distance hiking and it is the old saying, "never quit on a bad day." :) I was kind of forced off trail after the first 100 miles too due to somethings at home, that I didn't mention in my videos, but it was also in mid October and the days weren't as long as the summer. I found myself not taking enough time to enjoy what the trail had to offer because I was always trying to make my minimal 15 miles before sundown. The trail I want to hike and is on my bucket list, more than any other, is the PCT, the Pacific Crest Trail. That has always been my dream. :) I will make it a reality soon enough. I really enjoyed your series on the BMT. You've gained a sub here. I'm excited to check out your other videos. happy trails and thanks again for the trip down memory lane. :)
You really need the open panoramic views of rolling countryside along with trails through the mountains and glens to supercharge your soul (and for a visually better vlog 😉) 'haste ye back' to Bonnie Scotland (and England) sooooon 😊👍
Heck, that was emotional & tough to watch. Dear Christina, Well done. Ultimately, your reasoning was spot on. As the folks below have said; if it's not fun there's no shame in putting it on hold for another day and, there will be another day. I had a similar experience starting the SDWay here on a Mountain Bike. First time on a bike for 50 (yes fifty!) years. Knees and hips really complained on the hills and I had to accept that it was kinder to continue on foot. You are so brave though - I couldn't do half of the things you do. So, very best wishes for the future and I'm looking forward to the Indonesian adventures. I guess you know about the Munro bagging in Scotland? - well there are lots of volcanos in Indonesia......... Just a thought 🙂. Go well. Pete
Christina you have done the right thing, if you are not happy. Enjoy the time back where you parents live, we look forward to you returning to the U K sometime. Best Wishes. Andrew.
Wow, you did have a meltdown. Your heart isn’t in this one. You were happier when you were searching for the trail and sinking in the bogs in Scotland. I don’t blame you. That man of yours is mighty fine, and you are lucky he enjoys hiking with you some. Enjoy time at home. ❤ The rhododendron hells will be there another day!
I may have said it before but I am sure you would love the GR10 along the French side of the Pyrenees. I did it in 2000 and I still regard it as my best trail. Lots of variety superimposed on a slow change in climate from wet on the Atlantic to dry at the Med. Alternatives are GR11 (spanish side) or HRP (down the middle). Some day I might be able to find time to do GR11 or HRP,. At the end of GR10 I was keen to turn around and go back along one of these alternate routes but sadly work got in the way.
Yes, I remember you mentioned it and I looked it up. Starting next year April 2024, Ben snd I will be in full mode traveling and adventuring after his retirement. We will hike all over UK, US and Europe :)
Looking forward to your Indonesia trip, that sounds wonderful. No shame in leaving the trail, suffering is not your purpose to be there. So many people have quit the AT this year.
Well done Christina, that was a fantastic effort in tough conditions. Have a wonderful time in Indonesia and i look forward to the videos. All the best Gus .
@@hikersheep I’m only halfway done section hiking the Pinhoti but so far there have been so many different viewpoints and interesting things to see even in the lush green parts, like old moonshine stills, waterfalls, and plane crash sites…. Nothing compares to Scotland of course but I have been impressed with the PT so far 😊
Deciding to quit is one of the hardest decisions but one of the most important ones. When you wake up the next day you know if it was the right choice and in this case it was clearly correct. Walking down endless tunnels of identical forest for days or being with Ben+Bobo, it makes sense.
Don't sweat it! No pun intended. I always had that trail on the radar for Spring or Fall. You're still in the south. It gets hot. Come back and hike southbound.
Hi again :) Probably in late April after Ben retires. To Scotland first, then England or wherever. I have no definite detailed plan yet. But for sure we are going to do a loop of CWT, Affric Kintail Way, then GGW back to Fort William. :)
Looking forward to your next adventure! Be safe!
Thank You for taking us along!

Hey, you've got to listen to your heart, mind and body. You did the right thing. Happy trails to you.

Thank god you finally decided to get off the trail.Hope you hike the Cotswold Way sometime.

Looking forward to your trip to Indonesia. As a Ga. Resident the weather is brutal right now. You made a good decision to get off trail.
Yea, the mosquitoes snd flies were driving me nutssssss
Glad you’re getting off. It’s too hot now. Come back and finish it with a group of folks.
The trails being overgrown, lack of water, storms, and being solo all contribute to the vibe not being comfortable. I get it.
Well done Christina, that was a fantastic effort in tough conditions. Have a wonderful time in Indonesia and i look forward to the videos. All the best Gus .
Thanks Gus!!! :) Im so happy to be home
You should try the Pinhoti in the fall or in May when Ben could join ya ❤
Is Pinhoti prettier than BMT? I will do it one day. Ben and I will hike the Scottish National Trail 540 miles in April - June next year. :)

I've been in that same spot many times... Solo
When are you going to the UK and where?
Hi again :) Probably in late April after Ben retires. To Scotland first, then England or wherever. I have no definite detailed plan yet. But for sure we are going to do a loop of CWT, Affric Kintail Way, then GGW back to Fort William. :)
What is the other dog?🍫🤙
My other dog, Archie, is also a Shar Pei. He is 16 years old and still fit and healthy
If your not feeling it the right decision is get off trail and get back to family. Looking forward to your next adventure
Sheep, you did the right thing. If it's not enjoyable, then what's the point? It and us will always be there for you.
