been listening to electronic music for 25 yrs and making it almost as long - ehsan gelsi is one of the best live electronic musicians on the planet (maybe the best today)
How is this even possible? Half hour of nothing but variety and creativity with FOUR machines?! Absurd. I want to dance to one of your sets in a sea of sweaty bodies until my body aches. So much talent.
I went to see Orbital back in the 90s, they needed about 50 times more gear to achieve this standard of sound. This is fantastic! Alot of the stuff on UA-cam goes on forward without much depth. This doesn't get boring.
My BassStation II was my very first synth. I got it July of 2020 and I love it to death. I came across your video last night and was so incredibly inspired. You showcase this synth so well. I have a Roland TR-8S but you make me want to get the Circuit and Digitakt to produce work similar to this. You must have thousands of thought hours invested in your equipment.. amazing set and keep doing what you’re doing. If you give lessons let me know!!!!!
Nice one mate! It's just a wonderful instrument the BS2 - and it keeps on giving after all these years. Don't get caught up in my gear tho, you've got a hell of a great machine there in the TR-8S - you can do everything I've done and more with that thing! I do have thousands and thousands of hours in front of the gear, sign of a mis-spent youth perhaps. Practice your instrument, seek inspiration everywhere you can, and don't be afraid of making bad music, letting it die miserably, then getting back on the horse and moving onto the next thing at breakneck speed - well, that's my method anyway. Go gettem! :)
Get out of here with your talent and creativity I cant handle this right now. Have you tried being mediocre like the rest of us? Jokes aside this was mind-blowing. Excellent work.
Are there any differences between the AFX and the regular Bass Station II, beside the swag? Edit: I've got the answer, if that may interest anyone. The AFX model came with new features such as microtuning, programmable chords, something similar to Elektron's parameter freeze feature, but these are available with regular BSII updates.
worth just clarifying AFX Station doesn't have any patches or anything by AFX himself. the main difference between BS2 and AFX Station is the new features added to BS2 via firmware updates are now labelled on the front panel, so they're easier to access without needing a cheat sheet.
Been enjoying your videos for awhile now but this is amazing! 4 pieces of gear! Good grief! Things I realize while enjoying this video for the 4th time... 1. I should have never got rid of my BSII. 2. I’m a total slacker!! 3. This may be the best Breakbeat hardware session I have heard.
Iv,e been coming back to these Jams for years now and every time I hear them again it just reminds me of how far ahead of the pack Ehsan gelsi is,, Mindbendingly brilliant Electro 🤯🤯🤯😜👍jaffa Jenkins dawless jams
Outstanding performance. I was watching this video as a way to decide on whether or not I should invest in an AFX Station. Paired with my bass station and mono station, it should be a fun time ahead.
Haha. Aphex is a legend and a lot of his older stuff is still among my favorites, especially “self-employed,” which is one of the best tracks ever, but I think the music Ehsan makes now is more to my taste. Aphex obviously has godlike sound design skills, but I think his new tracks tend to be a little too busy and all over the place with the random timbres for me. I prefer more groove and melody. I think a lot of people with huge modular systems get caught up in the arms race of having a massive tower or space ship console of gear and it is just too much.
I certainly haven't watched every last session of yours but out of all the ones I have watched, I think this one definitely has the most sheer variety and character. I dunno how the hell you do this and make it look so easy. Lol.
How? I have a Bass Station, Circuit Mono Station and Circuit Rhythm. I can use them all independently but have no idea how to get them in sync and working together like this for even a single track, let alone a 35 minute set of awesomeness like this. This is incredible!
Hey! You can do it too! It's easy enough. Check out the video on my channel called ''How?" - that shows you the basic mechanics behind how I build these sets, and once you take your basic structural idea, it's just a case of punching them patterns to taste. :)
Ay, thanks man, it takes me a bit of time to get my head around this stuff but I'll get there. Had a look at your channel, subscribed. Your synth collection is far out! Looking forward to hearing more tunes. Cheers ✌️
Very nice 🍻👊 got my AFX station on back order, hopefully will have it in a couple weeks. Thoughts between the two BS2 and AFX BS2? They the same or/and slight differences?
@@EhsanGelsi Ahhhh, Ehsan - it's one of my little quirks - I have to listen to (or actually play) some Beethoven every day. I feel there's something missing if I don't. There's so much good music in the world (yours not least among it all!) but I keep coming back to my chidlhood friend, Herr Beethoven. It all harks back to a record I found in my Dad's collection with a big yellow 6 on the front, and some funny looking words "Karajan / Berliner Philharmoniker". Job done, eight year old addict created. I have never managed to kick the habit and have no intention of trying!
Always happy to see your performances. :) I really should have gotten a BSII instead of a Microbrute. It's much more flexible, almost as intuitive, and can load/save presets... per-key even. Digital controls are nice. But I went for smaller instead of better. D'oh. I like the small size and dirty squelchy texture, and have gotten a lot out of it... but it's very limiting and it's a huge pain having to dial in sounds every time I use them, never able to get the same sound twice. BSII would have been a much better fit for me.
We got fx twins!! A men lol...30.44 proves what this was A about lol and how great the circuit as sequencer is too..thanks Mistro😁💗🙌, James and Novation
Great set! How much time does it take you to produce a 30 min set like this one from scratch? And how much do you practice before you can play the entire set smoothly?
Cheers! This one took me a Friday evening and then Saturday afternoon to put together. I make a few patterns, then play from the start to where I'm up to as i go so i keep the flow sensible. I ran it a few times to get the vibe and recap, then record while it's fresh in my brainz!
Does anybody know if someone can play this same type of live set by replacing the Circuit and Digitakt with only Ableton (maybe a Launchpad or Push)? From my understanding, he is playing multiple sessions, patterns and sending program changes from both machines Do you think playing midi/audio clips and sending program changes from ableton would work just like this? I want to make a live set like this but don't have 1200 USD to get a Digitakt+Circuit :( (I already have a microKORG and AFX Station)
Question about the BS2! I know you also have a Mono Station. Is there anything that the BS2 does better than the CMS? With CMS having patch flip it seems like it should be able to do AFX mode types of sequences
Unbelieveable...
I don't think I ever saw a live jam that diverse and with the dynamics of a DJ set. 100% joy to listen to this.
It's unreal

I was expecting it would be one more boring techno, but this is way better. Your jam is like a breath of fresh air.
One of the best hardware sets I’ve ever heard.
Wowww !! The sound quality is amazing, every transitions are tight ! Amazing jam
Again, you have reached the 'live' level of Orbital & Aphex Twin. A lofty mantle but you're on it. Amazing music Ehsan.
You gunna go down on him as well while your down there?
This is the best set on youtube for the lest few years. Such a banger.

When the AFX press blackout lifted, yours is the only video I cared about.

You got it!
But no live input of sequences, right?
@Ju Ju Yes, you just go to Novation Components, plug in the BS2, and load the AFX patches onto it. Just got a BS2 and did this the other night.

Awesome beats! I love my AFX Station! Best synths ever 😎
This is so awesome. I read about this overlay feature on the AFX station and it is totally wonderful what you can do with it...

I just don't understand how you rock so hard. You're my spirit animal.
This is incredibly accomplished! Really full sound and incredibly varied. Brilliant. I came for a look at the AFX but then stayed.
You certainly know how to work those devices! Amazing performance, my man.
Ehsan totally off the hook. Thank you for brightening my day!
Cheers Mike!

13:45 gave me chills! Absolutely beautiful textures here
I'm a very simple man, I've liked this video as soon as it appeared it in my feed.
It's no easy feat to keep my attention for 30 min, but you did it. Ace tunes. Well done.
Outstanding performance. I was watching this video as a way to decide on whether or not I should invest in an AFX Station. Paired with my bass station and mono station, it should be a fun time ahead.
Always a banger, like every other session you have done, love your stuff!!!
oh man, this is insanely good, from sound design to cool riffs and sequences, what a feast.
Thx Marcos :)
Ehsan Gelsi: actual changes, high energy, danceable. I wonder if the quality is because Beethoven (?) is always conducting.
Damn! Killer set!
Aphex Twin himself must envy you now. Well done, keep doing it. Hope to see some day Novation make synth with your collaboration.
Ha! I doubt it, but thx mate! >>>ehsanthesizer intesifies

Dude! Full force dancefloor set! Whens the tour??
Nice work brother.....Tight breaks. SICK SET
Big ups man! Thinking to buy bass station myself. This vid made me sure I should do that asap. Keep it up👍
My “UNTITLED” Elektron project does not sound like this.
Ha! Seriously, naming stuff on this thing is such a fuck around I just can't even!
I don't even bother naming individual patterns, but I still make full songs :) Usually one per bank. Examples on my channel in case you're interested.
Ehsan you continue to be an inspiration
Wow, there's some seriously great programming in there, well done. Will be ordering.
Although, that Tom Sawyer patch at the end is puzzling, lol.
You could layer it in with another tone, I suppose, cheers...

@17:20 is really good
You win. This is the best demo on the AFX. Found the other twin.
As usual sooooo good! Absolutely love all of your stuff.
Outstanding Ehsan!
This set is unreal! What an amazing lengthy performance... every song transitions tho!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thx!
Brilliant setup 👌
Wow! The more than Brand New Novation synth!!! You are Crazy :-)
This is sending me totally spacewise.
Ik keep telling myself I don't need this AFX BS, but you mate, you make it very hard to resist.
Ha!
True pal I’ve one on order via Rubberdub 5 hours ago 🍻 cheers for the great vibes top draw.
Enjoy your bass machines dudes!!!
Greetings from California....nice set to listen to as I work from home!!!
Stay safe out there!!!
Great composition and synth work!

Sounds fresh!
This is so wicked. Get it on that there Bandcamp!
I have a friend with pretty much the same setup. This jam is tasty.
Best use of bs2 by far, great mate!
Orbital meets Plump DJ’s on 4 boxes - brilliant performance 😁
Spotify, soundcloud or download? Can you make this happen?! 🔥🤙🏼💥
1:11 factory preset no. 33 on BS2 !! Such a joy this Synth is!! And absolutely beautiful jam, thoroughly enjoyed it 🤘🏼

Yeeesss mate! Love it.
Thx legend!
I was just reading about the new "AFX edition" about an hour before you posted this video 🤣😂
I don't believe in coincidences!!!
that's one awesome workout man! good stuff!
12:25 What a tune. AFX would def be proud of this. Sounds straight out go SAW 85-92.
Brilliant !!!!! Thank You 👍❤💥
This is fucking gorgeous. Beautiful! Are you running 4.14 firmware on both of them?
Sounds killer as usual.
Very cool, very crystal method like!
Fantastic groove at 16:00.

Great work
great work!
This is great, and even Beethoven gives his approval.
My man!!! First on the block with the new BS and already have it tapped!

This performance was Amazing. Hell yeah, @ 34:07 you are burning the set wow
Seriously good!
this is awesome!! how do you record changing the presets?
Amazing sound as always!!! But more original!! Awesome!!

Thx. It's the Circuit.✌
