Ok I’m gonna be that person 🙋🏼♀️ I been waiting 2 weeks for this announcement because of the keys in the photo. I need a keyboard (I have midi keystep controllers) that has synth or sounds. I was planning on a Korg Wavestate. So I’ll be first to ask since I don’t have a BS: this or Wavestate? I’m gonna use it to control my Typhon and Hydrasynth desktop btw.
Aside from both being synths of some sort, the BSII and Wavestate have almost nothing in common. They're totally different types of instruments. Neither one is a particularly good purchase for controlling external midi devices; they're designed more for making their own sounds... with one being a budget monosynth and the other being a really fancy complex rompler. Can't say which you'd find more useful, since that depends more on you than on the instruments.
@@ToyKeeper I’ve posted this on 4 fb groups too and you are not only the one person to reply, but made it really clear explanation of both versus my needs. Thank you so much. I’m really just wanting something better than a keystep that has mod wheels and it’s on sounds to use with my modules sometimes.
Given that you already have a Typhon and a Hydrasynth (a subtractive mono synth and a subtractive poly synth), I doubt you really need a BSII. It'd just be another subtractive mono synth. Different user interface, but very similar sounds. The Wavestate would definitely provide different types of sounds... like acoustic stuff instead of synthy electronic stuff. It's pretty complicated to create new sounds on though, with a ton of deep menu diving, so a lot of people end up using it just for its presets. If you mostly just want something better than a Keystep, I'd suggest looking at dedicated midi controllers. And if you're wanting to control modular gear, look for controllers with CV functionality. Normally I'd suggest the Keystep Pro for that, since it's one of the top CV controllers lately, but if you didn't like the original Keystep you might not like the Pro either.
@@ToyKeeper again, your really knowledgeable, much appreciated suggestions! Think I’ll go with Wavestate as you were astute enough to notice my needs. As for the pro, yeah I’m kinda all about “ if I’m going to drop $200 or so on a device, I’ll drop another two to $400 to get unique sounds included “ lol
I'd love to have a Wavestate, since it does entire categories of sounds I don't have instruments for... but TBH, I'd rather have a Hydrasynth. Have been super tempted to get one ever since it came out, especially since the recent updates with warm mode and distortion. It's unfortunate that you got the Hydra module instead of the keyboard, since the Hydra keyboard is unusually good. Not many controllers have polyphonic aftertouch, or a full-length chromatic ribbon. It could have potentially made the Keystep unnecessary.
