My favorite drum solo from him. I know he added on to it as he got older, but there was something to the energy to this performance that resonated personally for me. RIP Neil Peart.
I play drums and also think this is my favorite. I say think because when I watch his solo from the R30 tour that’s pretty much the perfect drum solo the ways it’s structured which is what you were eluding to as far as him adding on to it as he got older. Your exactly right about theres an energy during this performance. What that energy is Neil Peart in his absolute physical prime as a drummer. When you’re young your fast and the power is building as you get older. Then as you keep getting older the speed will still be there but the power will start to diminish and then keep diminishing for the remainder of your career. Somewhere in the middle of that is your prime and you can just hear every single note crystal clear because he’s hitting every single one so hard, crisp and clean. This was in 1989 so hi-def technology wasn’t available yet. Now a days they can mic it up to where the drummer barely touches it and it super clear. To get this clean of a sound live in 1989 required a lot of power in his strokes. So I think that’s the energy you’re getting from this performance because I somewhat know that feeling (not on his level)of playing where stroke/note is being played with perfect precision & power and I can tell he was in what they call the zone on this night.
@@maga2024-g7e You can hear that Buddy Rich influence at 1:00 on the snare, the timing, very, very few in the world could come close to just a few passages here, none that I could think of could/would be able to accomplish the entire solo flawlessly; what an incredible talent.
