A fish rots from the head down. The fact that the first response from the manager was “What do you want me to do?” shows he allows/encourages this sort of behavior by his employees. They did damage control and threw the employee under the bus because of the media heat.
Dealer disconnected my camera and failed to reconnect it during a periodic service. Previously, the dealer sent the vehicle out to another shop to have the camera system installed - it was incorrectly installed and failed to work. Took several visits to get this (and other items) corrected. A brand new Ford Ranger Lariat.

If you think mechanics driving your cars for joy, rides or going to get lunch or coffee is rare and doesn’t happen you are so wrong and ignorant beyond words that happens every day, I have seen it happen. Multiple times the dealership doesn’t care the employees. Don’t give a damn when they get caught nothing happens but it happens every day I even think when I was an employee and they were servicing my car they took it to get lunch.
More than just being a Toyota. If still stupid if you (as a rouge mechanic) drove a customer’s car you’ve service for a joy ride + being a “sweet potato” driver (doing reckless driving).

Write down the mileage. The mechanics can always reset the trip odometer
