Great video! I have a torn meniscus. Working on strengthening glutes and all leg muscles and making great improvements! My right knee is improving everyday. Thanks for all the great tips!
I did the first 2 exercises for meniscus tear that you share on video, it reduced the pain in my knee and stopped the pain in the back of my thigh and down the calf, lateral side. But, I noticed this AM that my knee did click if I swung my leg out too far so I cut back on extension. I was doing it every hour and I have cut back to every other hour. I'm on about 4 weeks out, still uncomfortable when I walk, and yes, I have dogs so I do have to maneuver a few stairs to get them to the yard...true walking does not happen at this time, but I cannot avoid it totally. I went to a PT person one time...what I had gained I lost with the resistance exercise he had me doing (quads)...Have bought your PT video on meniscus and have the free consultation call set up for Monday. Can't wait.

The doctor met with me for 5 minutes, after the mri, I met with his assistant who recommended a steroid shot or plasma shot. He said eventually I would need surgery, down the line. I went w the plasma shot $600, out of pocket. I never went back. PT was never mentioned. I stopped working out, gained weight and it’s made me depressed. My knee hurts, I still take my morning walks and have started working my upper body. It’s been 6 months! Medial meniscus:Complex tear involves body and posterior horn of the medial meniscus. Can that heal on it's own having osteoarthrosis? Just curious. I really don't want surgery. Thanks doctor for your help. I purchased a $169 knee pad, saying it can heal the meniscus.
I found a brace actually made the pain and stiffness worse, maybe because it prevents it from bending which them contributes to stiffness. Be careful not to confuse stiffness with locking. If you rest too much you can lose mobility very quickly. You don’t want to do anything too painful, but it’s important to move and bend the knee as much as you’re able as stiffness will make the pain worse as well as prolong recovery. Most doctors recommend icing, but it needs to be on and off in 15-20 minute increments and only so long as there’s swelling. Icing too much will also make it worse. I’m guessing it restricts blood flow?? Once the swelling goes down heat may help healing by increasing blood flow, but like he said there’s no widespread agreement. I’d say try it and see if it helps. Last, there are exercises to build up quads, hamstrings, etc that you can do lying down.

A torn meniscus rarely heals on its own, especially if the tear is in the thinner part that doesn't get blood flow. Without surgery to trim the frayed parts off, it will get worse. So, saying a torn meniscus can heal but still have a tear doesn't mean it's healed because it stopped being painful. And, a knee brace definitely helps when you have a torn meniscus! What it does is help to keep your knee from twisting, causing more pain and just keeps the joint more stable.

I had surgery on my meniscus on my right knee. 6 + months later, having swelling and tightness in my left knee. Orthopedic doctor said it’s a bakers cyst. Going to PT for the first time next week. I am curious if they will say muscle imbalance is causing swelling and if they say to work on my glutes. I have been doing your recommendations on exercises. I probably should not have had surgery but it is done now so I am moving forward,
Sorry to hear that you're still having tightness in your left knee Kathy :-( You're likely over doing it OR your quads are so dominant that they're over-pressuring your meniscus and keeping it swollen. This will feed into getting a Baker's Cyst for sure because of the associated swelling. You've absolutely got to start working on your glutes. I probably should not have had surgery but it is done now so I am moving forward,
Sorry to hear that you're still having tightness in your left knee Kathy :-(
You're likely over doing it OR your quads are so dominant that they're over-pressuring your meniscus and keeping it swollen. This will feed into getting a Baker's Cyst for sure because of the associated swelling. You've absolutely got to start working on your glutes. In case you need it, here is a playlist of all our meniscus videos:

@@epmanualphysicaltherapy thank you for your input. I do have muscular calves. I’m only 5’1 so I can build these muscles quickly. The doctor that did the surgery had me doing weighted leg lifts as part of the therapy after surgery. I will work primarily on my glutes per your recommendation. I have my first PT visit on Monday so I will discuss this with my physical therapist then. Thank you again. I wish I lived in TX and could visit your office.
Please how can I fix my muscle imbalance

Can a torn meniscus lead to calf pain and cramping?
Hey Cathy, yes absolutely a torn meniscus can lead to calf pain and cramping...however it is not a very common symptom. Calf pain and cramping is more common with sciatica, which could also cause knee pain.

Bucket handle tear? Need surgery?
Yes, unfortunately I just had mine done couple of weeks ago. My knee could not straighten, so I wasn’t able to walk.
I’m still on crutches, but now I can straighten my knee.
You shouldn’t wait too long, I was missed diagnosed took 3 and a half months for the surgery. I also had a tore ACL , did a allograft reconstruction.
You got this!!
Can a grade 3 acl tear heal
Hey Mohammed, yes it can! However, it needs a good environment to heal because it does take a while. It is important to allow the knee to rest so that the healing process can continue smoothly!
Thanks for the reply

😮
No. You don't need surgery, it bends because it's not fully recovered.
Hey D! Yes, if there's full range of motion in the knee, then the meniscus tear probably has a good chance of healing and reducing in pain over time.
@El Paso Manual Physical Therapy yes I know because I had a car accident in 2017 so yes I will eventually heal it just takes time 😊 and my knee bends and my neurologist told me that it'll heal, I'll just take time ⏲
