Initially it did not worked for me then I added quotation marks at the start and at the end of the file directory for start in and target in and then it worked! For example - "File path" instead of just file path

Hi. I just installed biomutant and it won't open in game mode. And when i checked it in the file manager. It's not there anymore. Does it automatically free the storage? I'm worried the it will just hog my storage. Thank you.
Do you know where it's stored? It should be inside the prefix folder.

That's strange. Have you tried installing it on a different location? Weird how it can delete stuff from your HDD without you knowing.

Had a question as in after downloading the newer version of same quacked game does it replace the old version? If not then where are the save files located ? so I can transfer them to the newer version of the quacked game and delete the older version
Get protontricks from discover software center, open it and find your non-steam game, at the end there is a number. The games are stored in home/deck/.steam/steam/Steamapps/compatdata/(number from protontricks)/pfx/drive_c then you search online where the save location of your game online for windows.

Fantastic video you earned a sub! Quick question, will this method work for more demanding games? Like empress repacks? I’ve run into a couple issues with ISO installs in particular
some games require more, like installing dependencies and probably work arounds.

If you copy then it won't disappear.
so if you use this method, do you even need lutris at all since steam basically does the same thing?
lutris has benefits. for example, lutris has the ability to define where the prefix folder is which is useful in some scenarios. also, lutris supports wine by default. steam only supports proton by default.

When I play these games, when I restart my deck the I lose all my game saves.
How to fix?
My saves are stored but every game has a different save location.

Great video! One question, how do you update a game? Let’s say I download BG3 and play it for a month, and then a new updated version is released. How do you update it without losing your save games. Do you need the incremental patches? Can you overwrite the previous version and keep the saves?

every game is different i guess. if there is an update patch, that will be the optimal choice i think. just backup your save before doing anything stupid. :)
depending on how you installed it, mine directly via add nonsteam game on steam itself, just load up the path to the update file (if it's an exe file) into the game's properties target path/location and run it. It will prompt you like how you install update on a windows machine. You may still need to specify the actual location of the quacked game, should be easy. you will know once you see it. Then once update is done, restore the target path/location on the game's properties. Run the game.

Install the game on a pc then copy to steam deck or install it on steam deck directly?
Especially for big repacks like horizon zero dawn, god of war .........
well, if you do it on steam deck you don't have to transfer the files back and forth which might corrupt the files. whichever works is always the best. :)

Have been pulling my hair out trying to get a game to run. Got a Baldur’s Gate 3 repack and the game refuses to go through the unpack/install process. Can repacks be done the same way you showed here?

How did you install? When you install a game it let's you set a installation path. Just delete that path. How would I know where you installed it to?

Just wondering have you tried installing nfs heat and dbfighterz? the game somehow wouldnt load even though it says running and other bootup but crash.
I've tried Dbfighterz, I remember it was pretty smooth and I even got the dlcs working but it's been a long time ago so not sure if it's relevant now. Haven't tried need for speed.

Quick question, do you know how to fix a game when you come across “fatal error!” When trying to play a quacked game?
Depends on the game. You should try by using different proton versions. Or even use wine instead of proton if needed.
@@GrownUpGamingGUG hmm I’ve tried using different proton versions from 7, 8,experimental and hotfix but still come across the same issue on marvel vs capcom infinite. It loads the intro Marvel loading screen then shortly after I quickly see a “now loading” screen then just stops with fatal error. Any idea?
I've played that game before so I know it works and I don't remember needing to do anything special. Try getting another installation file. It could be the version of the game.

in windows we can install and then transfer the extracted game to sd, but since i have a mac, how can we do it.

Some games needs dependencies like visual c++. Go to steamdb.info and check the game depot section to find out.
downloading quacked games is like downloading any PC cracked games, eg skidrow?
Can the quack be installed directly from steam deck? I’m seeing multiple people saying to do it on a pc. Is there an actual reason for that?
I actually prefer installing on steam deck as it save times from transferring files back and forth from pc. But some repacks especially larger games might not install directly with steam deck as it requires lots of ram and CPU I guess as they are so compressed. Those games you need to install with a pc.

It's trial and error for me. But I find large repack games seem to be the problem. I don't use repacks unless absolutely necessary.

I have the ISO file on an SD card. But I can't access the sd with Power ISO.

Nope I don't use a VPN.

i dont use vpn. been downloading torrents since limewire days. films, games, music, software etc. nothing happened

Nope, it's not a solution for every game.
Doesn't this just keep creating fake windows systems with tons of wasted space for files being duplicated for every game installed? it makes a brand-new C drive with files every time
It does but it's not that much space. You can put all your games in single prefix if you like.
I think the problem with that is when a game requires a different proton, the different c drives created are using different proton layers for each game. I think it can be done when it uses the same proton but when they require different ones, you basically break the compatibility of the other games installed in the same folder. I am not sure, please correct me if I am wrong 😅

I'm not sure you can run windows edition. You can run java edition of Minecraft through prism launcher which can be downloaded though the discover store.

@GrownUpGamingGUG I tried this fix and it worked great on High on Life but I tried it on Hogwarts and it doesn't take it. I copied and pasted the same code that work on the first game and what it ended up doing was messing up the first game that was working. Do you have any ideas? Sorry new to Linux ...
