- This documentary is a spellbinding journey through the ages, beginning with the origins of the animal some 60 million years ago. Superb writing and stunning photography ignite this history lesson: "Spark of ancient myth, pride of king and conqueror; history was forged to the beat of its hooves...." At the documentary's center is a modern horse race in Mongolia, where horses are so revered that the national drink is fermented mare's milk. The narrative touches on an exclusive riding school in Spain, the fluctuating state of wild horses in the U.S., and the breaking of a wild horse in northern California. The epilogue is the story of Carousel, an aging horse that helped its handicapped rider win a blue ribbon in the 1996 Paralympics. Just 60 years before the first moon landing, the world was driven by horsepower. This video could make you believe it still is.
Horses have been the Number One love of my life since early childhood, They have sustained me through terrible times in my life. These videos are truly compelling and truly breathtaking. My Kingdom for a Horse!
The real question is... are they JRHNBR?
They are magnificent creatures for sure. The way they gallop, the kindness they bestow upon us, and their tolerance of allowing us to ride on their backs is a gift. We should always respect all of God's creatures, big and small. Looking into their eyes is like viewing into their souls. I grew up having neighbors who had horses and I was lucky enough to ride on them. What sweet, loving animals they truly are to people. May they continue to thrive and prosper.
I had horses for over 40 years. They brought me my greatest joy and happiness over everything else.
So... did you bring THEM joy as well? or were they just happy to be there, in cages for your entertainment? carrying your weight around wherever you made them go...
Ntwadumela Their love for me was just as great. I would go camping in the White Mountains and I would let my horses run free there. They stayed around Me and the camp grounds, never tied up, when I called or whistled for them, they came running right straight to me. At night they would sleep right next to my tent and awaited for me to feed them and when they were thirsty, they went right over to the stream and drank. They stood quietly when I saddled them, without one restraint and when we left, they hopped right into the trailer to go home. They LOVED me and RESPECTED me as I did them. They could have ran away in the surrounding hundreds of miles at any time in the mountains, they never even tried. Now, does your dog do this for you?!
When I had dogs, they did the same and more. Respect for your answer. You are not the kind of person that so many are.I have no respect for anything kept/worked against it's will. I stand corrected. Peace

Ntwadumela cages?? Really?? Take your ignorance else where.. the horse world is a different world then yours.. you don't understand horses and what it takes to own them and the terms. For example horses don't live in cages.
LOVED IT..LOVE HORSES..MY FAVORITE... WONDERFUL SHOW...THANKS AND GOD BLESS!
the most brilliant movie about horse ever
A rare and true story of the horse. Kudos to National Geo.
I cried in the very end what an amazing video
horses truely are the best , love them and always will
Lovely fantastic program. There is however one factual error: The breed used at the Spanish School in Vienna are NOT the Spanish Horse of today, but the lipizzaner horse. One of the founding stallions of the Lipizzaner is the Danish Frederiksborg breed. Others are the Kladrupe and spanish horses. Thanks for making the program.
I love horses. Thank You for sharing video.
Would be so cool to see Horse documentaries that are actually about wild horses instead of just telling us about what good slaves they make for us humans.
Go look at cloud the wild stallion documentary.
When I saw Raven as part of this documentary, and the palomino foal, and all Cloud's greuilla mares and offspring, I sure did have to ask "Where's Cloud?" I watched all the Cloud documentaries, and how the generations of his offspring, without human intervention, all reverted to the natural colouring of wild horses. Grey and dun greuillas. I did see Cloud's final days, when he was rounded up with his band. He was considered old and had to be taken out. Ginger had been following him all his life. He was strong, determined, picked the right mares, and he threw strong foals. He was a perfect stallion to teach his kids, to teach the young boys how to fight and move on. He held his ground for a very long time, and in very harsh conditions. I thought it was totally unfair that he got taken out by Gov't bullshit. Even though he was unnaturally coloured, he threw strength and natural horse sense.
i have and i LOVE it so much
Christien de Bruijn that's not Cloud, it looks like him but that's his full sister Mariah
Slaves? No April Sunshine, you are wrong. If they did not want to do it, they sure as hell would not do it! And there are plenty of horse docus like the one's you describe. I felt good after watching that film. Don't spoil the enjoyment by being so damn negative.
Such beautiful creatures ❤️💛💚💙💜🖤
magnificent episode
but I still can't believe to watch a documentary movie about Horses without mentioning and talking about the Arabian Horse.
Nevertheless, it is still nice and thanks National Geographic.
same thinking here
Too many seem the think the Arab is the only breed that matters, and perhaps people are tired of it.
Amazing LOVE this !! Thanks for posting !!!
Am I the only one here who actually enjoyed this movie? i think it is kind of a honor mad movie to the horse, to show what they have done for us and out society, when they could have only thrown us of and ran away instead, but they didn't. Thats one of things that makes me love these creatures so much they just do what we tell them and they agree. i know some people will say: abuse, force and so on. But if a race horse wouldn't like to run on the race track or if he was hurting they wouldn't run like they do to desperately be first, the race horses are eager to run out of the stalls and take off because they know their thing, and like it, if the horse didn't like it they would have thrown of the jockey and ran off...they are not stupid
Love this video, may the horses know how much i appreciate what they have done for us since the first man decided that they were more than food....
no, you are not the only one 😊
no
i cried often during this documentary.
Those kids are all smiles clubbing those poor underfed horses in that Mongol race. Lovely.

Horses are good animals I would love to have one
Omfg... The scene where they used trucks to dump away the horses... I WAS CRYING AND THOSE POOR CHILDREN
cok
those mongolian 'poor children' did their part to push their 'beloved pets' in an half hour gallop, some wildly lashing leather belts onto their horses flanks. if they had a spark of feeling for their horse they'd stop when the horse's power is through and not push it galloping until death.
I hate these animal abusing high held traditions.
Aww, you cut out the National Geographic theme? But that's the best part! :(
Superb Documentaries Other documentaries on youtube have the theme.
:(
+Superb Documentaries I love it please do more please
Hewy Toonmore

Raven is clouds father ^^
It's like they saw horses and they faded away its sad :(
Enough of the guilt and shame act.
Damn, Can we just have a freaking show on a topic that does not require the viewer to consider suicide for said evil sins done.
Ugggh!!
Oh my, a rare and lovely sound, the voice of Reason.
WT Hendrix , no we can not because we are now living in the "Age of Stupidity ". Regardless of what we say we will offend somebody...
WT Hendrix .hy
Reg Murphy Some people just get offended by everything. You are right about the stupidity thing.
you, have, an, off switch, and, you, dont, have to, read, the comments ?
I ride bare back only a blanket to really hold my place. I ride only in the summer three to four times a week.
nice video of that, they are nice looking animals, but if I was a animal, I would always prefer being in the wild, where am free...lol
Did anyone else get scared for a second when they were announcing Mongolia's national drink and that chick was reaching between the horses legs that it was from a male horse :|
11:17 Man down, I repeat, man down! xD
I wasn't the only one who thought of the Dothraki from GoT right?
Lmao horse fuckers.
Bryan is really awesome!
QUE TRISTE QUE NO ESTE EN ESPAÑOL. ENTONCES, NO LO VOY A ESTAR MIRANDO.
Sad this was not in English also. So I will not be watching it.

I live in Georgia :D
the White horse of napoleon was populaire. even the horse of Jean darc. also pegasus.,.. ETC
is that were, the term, " pride goes before a fall " comes from ?
Raven is Cloud stallion of the Rockies sire
yes and flash (father of palomino mare named phoenix, who is cloud mother) is cloud's grandfather, and the buckskin mare named isabella is cloud's grandmother ( she can be seen at minute 31:32 feeding her filly called mohave), both phoenix and isabella were stolen from flash band by raven.
14:17😢😢😢😢
WHO BUILT THEIR bodies for speed? You have much information that can perhaps be verified, such as what happened maybe 4000 years ago, but the things you surmise and theorize spoil this documentary!
best friend for some one stuck in a wheel chair ...think about it !
my horse pegasus fly realy into the sky he bring me to jupiter already i can go further if want to
A much abused animal apart from animals slaughtered for food by humans. What would have been the history of the world without this majestic creature can be better imagined.Only with the arrival of the automobiles, the value & prestige of horses diminished drastically. The future of this creature is quite uncertain.
A very special animal. I will trade my 35 year old motorcycle for a horse. Any breed will do.. :)
Oh i love the western part. i hate the 'normal' way to ride..
please tell me your fav breed

Yeah this is not a documentary of horses, this a documentary about humans owning horses and riding for their own amusement
I'm a Fire 🔥 Horse 🐴
With Two-Legs…)
the metal mouth bit has to go,
Yep, hackamore is much better.
Anita Goodwin you mean a bit??
Douglas Griffiths hackemores are good except for mechanical hackemores
That was a really lovely film. So I say fuck all you negative, bleeding heart, misery guts commenters. I will go with a sweet taste in my mouth, not a bad taste. Just allow people to enjoy something without trying to make us feel guilty about every god damned thing that's presented to us here!
tiger Lilly
I wanted the horses vs wolves there but no😥😥
11:17 somebody fell off?
the horse dancing is ridiculous. Horses should run as they want but not in that stupid and bounded way
Lin hxue dressage is an art
Lin, horses are athletic and there is nothing like the rapport between a rider who loves their horse & a horse that is well trained. Most horses love to work with their human, I know as I've had horses all my life. My dad raised draft horses & many people would ask him to bring a team to parades & to use in weddings- they loved the attention & applause and would really "strut" with pride.
How I thought it is something unique maybe it is just me.
Lin hxue yea
Flash? Starman? grow up people!
tgcbbnbbhhhggggg) ggghyuuhi
what, about, the american, plains indians, are you, telling me, that, they didnt, take a pride, in their horses ?

They never give it a rest , evolution the greatest myth of all time.
Myth? Evolution is almost fact
Horses are ment to be wild
this is animal abuse...
This is so boring...............
If it is so boring why did you even watch it, dumb head? Do you even like horses? Or do you just treat your own one (if you have one) like a slave? I stand correct about my statement
