    my bag outside of putters and a handful of mid ranges is lightweight. That lightweight fuse is incredible. It kicked my regular weight out of my bag instantly. I just think we need more manufacturers doing this range more readily. I have to rely on Trilogy and MVP/axiom. And I am grateful they do produce them. Those of us who use them, love 'em.

      I've found it frustrating to put together a bag for a younger disc golfer because the mold selection for lightweight discs is pretty thin. Ended up going with dino discs which was fine, but I'd rather be able to get molds I am familiar with in a weight that my toddler aged players can throw.

    Great topic to highlight ! Since a rotator cuff injury several years ago I've had to go lighter. Went from 172-180 down to 150-160. They work well for me, only time I miss my max weight days is in the wind or even a stiff breeze, it's a downside. I still use over 170 for putt only discs. Innova is the clear "champion" for lighter weight selection. Trilogy has some as well (the 157 River is a boss tunnel runner). MVP and Axiom have a few. Prodigy has a few. Lone Star has some in their base plastic. Others have a very few. Most companies don't seem to offer them, or have a small selection in a mold or two. I suppose the tooling requirements get expensive ? A guess.

    150 class approach putter allows for shots that you really couldn't make otherwise. Like getting around trees on greens, you can have a disc float left or right further than it goes straight

    With a tailwind, you can bomb a lightweight driver, from my own personal experience. But if there's wind, that generally rules out my lightweight discs. Calm days and I find myself reaching for them more and more, especially as I age (53yo). Lightweight discs are definitely fun as you get up there in age, and when your arm is tired out from a long course or fatigue

    When I was much younger I only bagged 173+. One day I absolutely BOMBED an (don't laugh) Innova Dragon. Furthest throw I'd ever had. Quickly sold me on lighter drivers. A 168 12x Star Wraith probably has the best flight of any driver I've ever thrown. A 163-165 Champ Tern is an absolute flamethrower. I suggest those two to golfers who've played for several years and struggle with distance. Lightweight is great.

    problem is when u get used to play with lightweight discs , and most people have really often windy or more windy conditions . which will make those lightweight discs fly not predictable easily. ofc its cool to have 1 or 2 for trickshots , or play with the winds for maximum distance to left or right. i had 150g Destroyer which flew was mega understable releases but if enough air , could easily fight back !

  • @cya9801
    @cya9801 Рік тому

    Great video! I bag several lightweight discs and hear these misconceptions all the time. The air trespass is an absolute bomber disc, so I'm sad you didn't get sent one. I completely agree. In fact, maybe light weight should be the norm and you carry a few heavy more stable discs for those headwind shots. Vs right now I have all max weight discs and 1 light weight fairway and 1 light weight driver. Flip the script completely I wonder...

  • @TheGuccibane
    @TheGuccibane Рік тому +2

    So it's the higher weight that exacerbates the intended flight path. Everything understable I have in 165-175 flips way easily. My river does not fly that stable as the one here.
    It almost seems like at those low weights, flight paths are like 20% of what they would be if it was in the 170s area. So it just makes almost all those discs fly nearly the same with minimal variation (like the river, but yours still finished like the other light ones). Great insight

    I have a very weak throw (max 95 m, consistently around 75-80 m) 'I brought three light(155-159gr): Pure, Ballista and Bolt. The Pure is useful for scrambles putts, nothing more for me at the moment. The Ballista is the best, because it goes a little farther than every my drivers and I can be quite precise with it, the Bolt (which I use obviously as understable driver) also goes almost to the ballista distance, but for me it's a little unpredictable. But, anyway I think the lightweight discs are very useful for evolute beginners that have an accettable tecnique.

    All of the light weight discs I own are so touchy, IMHO the juice (a few extra feet of distance situationally) isn't worth the squeeze (extra necessary practice to get the right touch on the throw). I don't love that you start by saying lightweight discs aren't necessarily as flippy. It might seem like a weird thing to complain about, but imo it's more accurate to say that lightweight discs are just as flippy, but it doesn't last as far into the flight, resulting in a quicker fade (meaning quicker after throwing, not fading harder). Another way to phrase it would be that lightweight are more "fade-y" but that also doesn't quite hit the mark
