- I was about to leave my parent's to go back home to London when my Dad found my late Grandfather's Omega Seamaster DeVille from 1965. I got in trouble with my wife because I was supposed to help her pack and get the kids ready for the taxi, but I couldn't miss an opportunity to make a video on this stunning piece!
I hope you like it.

This was my 1st luxury watch. My late uncles watch gifted to me. I just serviced it w/a old watchmaker who has vintage NOS parts. Ran well before but figured I better get it done before too late. Great dress watch for weddings, etc. I think fits those occasions better than the Submariner and the other tool watches.
1. It's gold filled, not gold plated
2. Should be easy enough to service with a qualified watchmaker, preferably one with a parts account
3. Changing the crystal to an omega crystal is easy, the watchmaker can do that also
Gold plating didnt exist back then. So gold filled has a fairly thick layer of gold.
@@EllRiver Rubbish! Gold plating has existed since 1805.
@@EllRiverj'ai la même avec la facture originale... C'est écrit plaquée or et elle est de 62
Absolutely cracking time piece... !!
Great video! I too enjoy the vintage watches. I have one just like that.
My kind of watch BEAUTIFUL
Was there ever a better range of watches. Stunning.
Stunning watch, absolute class
Thanks Graham. 👍🏻
Literally just after buying one of these from 1968. Stunning watch.
They are gorgeous, good work 👍🏻
Thanks for the video. Its seldom worth taking a quarrel with the wife, but for this I can understand you ;) I had an identical watch, which was my first Omega. The guy I bought it from had it since he was a child. It needed a service , and I sold it, regretting this very much. I fell for the beautiful unique design. It is such a beautiful dress watch, but when it was new it was also thought as a waterproof sports watch. And these 5- and 6- series Omega movements are amazing. These watches are monocoque so there is no back to take off - everything goes through the front side. It looks like you have the beautifully styled original crown. I really want another one, but the prices are quite a lot higher these days. Take care.
What an absolutely stunning piece. Featuring the word "Waterproof" before it got banned for the the word "Water Resistant" too! I heard these are rare and highly sought after. Keep it and protect this beauty with your life mate :)
I have one exactly the same! and i absolutely love it !
I have a 1954 Omega with the 266 handwinding movement. My wife's stepfather retirement watch.
I wear it with a suit for special occasions.
...loved the vid although short...I have an identical watch without the calendar....me grandads...gorgeous piece, cheers...
Another great vid, thanks.
You’re probably aware but if you want an Omega serviced “the” person to speak to is Simon Freese at Simon Freese Watchmakers. Top guy, REALLY knows his stuff, used by Omega collectors and very good value. Just had one of my vintage Omegas done after others said it couldn’t be fixed and it’s working beautifully.
I got my dad's Seamaster Deville, had to be serviced, somehow the crystal was badly scratched and the crown was missing, but otherwise it was in very good shape, it took 2 years for my watch guy to track down the right/authentic parts and it works like a dream now, loving it, looks the same as yours except it has a day of the week indicator in addition to the date, and I think it was a more basic model because the plate on the underside is plane with no engraving.
Do not wind and wear that watch for any extended period of time. The dried up oils and greases will act as an abrasive wearing down the wheel pivots. A service is a must! Let a skilled watch repairer service it before using it. Good luck and gorgeous watch btw.
Lovely watch, thanks for the video
Thanks very much. I was really glad he found it again.
beautiful watch......I got burned on a 1964 Omega Seamaster once from an antique watch dealer in Canada. I got most of my money back but I don't trust anyone any more
he lied about everything.....about the watch being fully serviced, water tested ( that was the first red flag, these vintage watches are NOT waterproof ), he said the watch was all original with all new gaskets. I wore it while washing dishes one day and the entire watch fogged up
I took it to my local watchmaker and he said the watch hasn't been serviced for decades and was completely dry, all gaskets were dry and useless, missing the crystal retention ring, wrong crown for that year
I later found the owner of the shop on all the major watch forums and he was banned from all of them for ripping people off. I wasn't the only one that got scammed from him
Beautiful!
Thanks buddy. 🙌🏻
I have the same watch from the same year. It went back to Omega and came back looking absolutely stunning and keeps excellent time.
Interesting, can you tell me ball park, what that cost? My father had one and I’d like to get restored, appreciate it will cost c1000gbp…
@@alexgroushko3142 I had it done approximately six or seven years ago through Mallory's in Bath. It went back to Omega in Switzerland. I think the cost was #550. I bought it from Ebay so had no concerns regarding keeping original parts. The original parts they replaced were returned to me. It was a pretty comprehensive rebuild.
Gorgeous!
I am watching this ..... wearing the same watch (60's Gold cap variation)
It is a very smart looking number indeed - I really like mine too !
Good choice. It’s a great looking piece. There’s something really nice about a 34mm case. 👍🏻
I just got a new Hirsch Duke strap for my 1959 gold cap and after sitting in my watch box for a year with only a handful of outings I can’t wait to wear it again. Funny how I can forget/ignore a watch for so long then watch a video by someone else and go back to that watch with a newfound enthusiasm haha
I have found a 1935 in charity shop for a pound .in great condition works fantastic. how much is it worth......
omega 1935 .is valuable......
Beautiful watch! Thank you for sharing.
-To bad my grandfather didn't think to buy Omega...still happy I have his watches though :)
Thanks Jeffrey. All old watches are awesome. 🙌🏻
I'm late on responding, but I have this watch or at least very close to it. Mine has an original dial and the markers are a little different, but mine does have the seahorse logo and is gold filled. It is dated on the back 1964. Mine also says "automatic" under the Omega logo at 12. It has an original omega movement and was a great find. Just sitting in a jewelry case waiting for me to pick it up - all for $230
Nice watch so pretty
Very similiar to my grandfathers Omega Seamaster cal. 601 that I found in a drawer, put away and forgotten.
very nice and classy watch, i have one very similar i have inherited from my dad, this is solid 14k gold is it not? i least that is my understanding of the one i have and it look exactly the same minus the date window.
i have vintage seamaster, its glass is diamond type style (not plain like yours), and have no calender on it. I wonder how old is this. Cant find this piece on the internet. it still working perfect. still cool looking.
really nice, you could be proud! please tell me what watches you have in your collection
My understanding is that they are 17 k gold. Omega did not introduce gold plating until later
How much is the price of the Omega watch in the video?
Super!
Perfect ..
Ive got a 1968 Deville I wore for my wedding that I love but man they are too small for daily wear for my personally
Super watches
Love the strap! Where did you purchase the strap?
8 seamasters 1 Geneve 3 Constellations from the 1960s in my collection all of them got service no problem getting parts. Simply a great watch.
John Pinner where did you source the parts? Omega and most other Swiss brands have been trying to kill off the independent watch trade for decades and they are about to succeed. Imagine if the car trade were to do the same! 🤬
Stunnung watch, cheers
Come for the watch talk, stay for the humor!
Thanks buddy. 👍🏻
Nice!
Awesome :-):-):-)
Nice
What color is the strap?
8 had the exact same one. Was my late grandfather's and had his name engraved on the back. My favorite watch. Was stolen but I am trying to find it. Some day.
You should carefully open the case back. Omegas from this era have beautiful pink gold-toned movements.
Why would you suggest that he open the watch up. It's pretty obvious he loves the watch but has no watch Tech skills. Bad idea.
Just got a 1950 Seamaster De ville!
Hermosa máquina,cuanto está?
Looks like 900$ or something. How much do you spend when servicing it?
Let me just add, the reddish leather strap it's paired with is absolutely nails!!
ive heard a story once: "I once owned an 1962 24k gold Omega watch, when I had it cleaned by a
jeweler he almost had an orgasm when he opened it, he said it was the
most fantastic piece of engineering he had laid eyes on"
nice watch
i have never heard of a 24k gold watch. might be the first ever.
Probably belonged to the shah
Rudy Vasquez haha i dont know. I said ive heard it. Dont know if true though
Are you sure it wasn't 24 jewels?
jimflex 🤷♂️
Ordinarily gold plated watches have stainless steel backs I've never seen a gold plated case back. You might want to check for hallmarks. Beautiful watch I have one very similar with (you've guessed it) a steel case back. 😉
It's Gold Filled which is why there is no steel case back.
@@truthseeker1581 how many microns ? It must be at least 20 ?
What a load of old bollocks ! 😆
What in the world are those clowns from Omega talking about! Dude, service that watch, wear it as often as you like and pass it down to your children!
Never knew them as vintage back in the 1960’s, later knew them as old fashioned timepieces, years ago thought they just junk, you can put your own value on them was what you paid, if it’s gold, wait for gold prices to rise then flog them.
How many millimeters is the case?
I do have the same watch in stainless steel and it is 33,5mm diameter, 9,8mm thick.
what size is the diameter?
I do have the same watch in stainless steel and it is 33,5mm diameter, 9,8mm thick.
Nice watch, shame about the wife.
Haha, thanks buddy. And it is a shame! Haha.
my father bought me the same watch in 1965....
...in 1967 got drafted into the Army...
...while in Okinawa got rolled in a bar...
...and of course lost the watch FOREVER...
...WHAT DID I LEARN...DONT BE STUPID...;;--),,,,,,,,,,
J'ai la même
MY WIFE MY WIFE.😂😂🤣
If it works it can only work better with the adequate service. Find yourself someone who works with vintage watches so they can disassemble it and assemble it and oil it the right way.
what a beauty
Hei, may I buy your watch?
Hey buddy, sorry this one isn’t for sale.
Where are you from. ? I have the same watch but 14k rose gold and few other omega i have .
Get solid gold! Gold plated will chip off
it was his granddads
Not many solid gold models out there and, in fact, it isn't a wise choice since that metal is extremely soft, full of scratches in a short time. I have my grandfather's Zenith from the late fifties and no chip off at all.
How much you pay for this watch?
I have one, welcome anny body who wants to bay
So, did you get yelled at?
I always do.
.....Dude? Why did you sell it?
Did Omega really advised you that? Really? Those swatch bonkers... 😂any good master watchmaker will repair old parts, unbending it, cleaning it, polishing it. If Omega said that, they are just focused on quick repairing barely new watches to owners that take theirs to the garage every 3-5y as the brand conveniently recommends.
Shame on you Omega...
Looks unnaturally big on your wrist?
Get it fixed. What good is a watch that does not run. It means you cannot wear it. Well it will be right twice a day.
A muslim would say: sell your wife, buy a new Omega, you will be more satisfied... Allahu alam. ;-) (Spanish catholic here)
Beautiful watch but why are you so hen pecked? Grow a pair and tell her whose boss. She'll have to wait.
Another thing i found i love of vintage watches is that i f they have a plastic glass you can hear them ticking on your wrist(30 or 40 centimiters from your head)...and is like you can hear their heartbeat, you can hear ther're "alive".
What color is the strap ?
