Getting a Yellow Thai Tabien Baan House Registration Book and Pink Foreigner ID Card in Thailand

  • I finally got my yellow book which is called the Tabian Baan and the Pink Thai ID Card. So what is the Tabian Baan, it's a house registration or Household Reigstration book. As I am not a permanent resident, I get a yellow one. This can be useful in situations when I have to prove I live in Thailand and show proof of address such as for getting my drivers license issued here, registering vehicle purchases, opening a bank account etc.
    It's actually a relatively straightforward process if you know what you're doing. Unfortunately I had a fiasco with the condo office switching my middle and last names in the registration of my title for my condo purchase which had me do a lot of extra work to get it done. The American embassy is also possibly one of the worst embassies out here as far as their citizen services so it caused a bit of confusion but when I figured it out, it was pretty straight forward how one can get the translated passport copy which I will cover in detail so you won't have to do as much research as I did.
    Lastly the Pink Thai ID card is a national ID card issued to foreigners with your name recorded in Thai and only 60 baht for processing if you request it when getting the yellow Tabien Ban Book. I have heard unlike the drivers license, this ID card will get you into national parks at local prices etc so I have my fingers crossed. This ID card should also no longer give my Bank and Telecom companies excuses for insisting I bring my passport to identify myself as their reasoning to me is that they can't use my driver's license from Thailand although it's issued by Thailand because my name isn't recorded in Thai. Doesn't make sense cause my passport is also in English but now I have something to give them.
    I'll update you guys as to how effective and cost saving these documents are as I gain experience using them in lieu of the more expensive documentation such as the address verification letters from the American embassies that cost 50 dollars per each one.

    Congrats on your tabienbaan, I know I am always so dreadful to go to ANY government offices of any kind, not that I am afraid of them, but afraid of myself to burst out of the waiting, the mood, the time waiting , the heat, etc.of the process of whatever I am trying to get!

    • @livetravelasia
      @livetravelasia  5 років тому +3

      Thank you! Haha... yeah.... The thing that annoys me is not the Thai government offices but them sending me to get something from the American embassies cause what's worst than waiting is waiting two weeks for an appointment than waiting 2 hrs at the US embassy and pay 50 plus dollars for sub par service... Hopefully the Tabien Ban will save me from having to visit that place. I could have saved over 150 bucks on the different address verification letters I've had to get from there if I did this sooner. Btw, invest in a good set of headphones or Nintendo switch if you're into gaming, it'll make the time go by faster. I now understand why Thai people are addicted to their phones lol

      Just get your middle name recorded after your first on the first name section so you can save the trouble I went through. I may also advise going to the translation office and having someone who knows how to translate your english to Thai give you your name in thai so that when you get the passport certification, it matches your name recorded in the title as they do it in Thai. If you have a work permit by than, it'll be a breeze as you can just have them copy it

    I was there today, worked like a charm, thank you very much! The team is extremely helpful. I didn't have a work-permit, but brought my condo's title deed. Little did I know that I already had a Thai Name, which was on that document. The prices vary but if someone does it for you, you’re looking at around 150 baht for what costs about a tenth of that price if you did it yourself. Prices range a lot as this is a service they know you need done usually on a short notice and at 150 baht it’s not that absurd of a price so you’ll pay. I’ve seen it as high as 250 baht

    • @livetravelasia
      @livetravelasia  5 років тому

      Yes. The pink ID card honestly is just for identification purposes but doesn't impact your legal status. We still have to even do the 90 day report. Seems quite redundant given that this registers my home address but they need to confirm where I am living every 90 days but I honestly don't expect things to make sense here lol. But now opening bank accounts getting a drivers license etc, you don't have to have an address verification letter from the embassy and I've heard that it gets you local price access at state parks

    Hi could you explain if the pink card is an easier form of documentation for the purchase of a car in Thailand for foreigners instead of a passport with a tourist Visa?
    Could you also do a video of a Vehicle purchase for foreigners and loans if applicable

    • @livetravelasia
      @livetravelasia  5 років тому

      The Pink card is a certainly more paperwork to get if you're just on a tourist visa. I'd only recommend it if you own a condo as I do. As for documentation to purchase a car without the pink card, I am not the best to do a video on it as I haven't done it that way myself but it just requires you to go to the embassy and get documentation in lieu of the pink card the last time I checked. I'd also recommend you get a thai driver's license which is very easy to get and in the playlist I linked after "helpful information". You can also find the playlist towards the bottom of my channel page for reference in the future

      People have tried that and after about 3 times, they get questioned by immigration or worst sent back. The 30 day wasn't designed for that. It would be safer and more convenient to do it with the 60 day tourist visa. You'd also get a warning at the embassy before heading to thailand as well

    I am a bit confused about the procedure. You first mentioned about having your passport translated at an official translation agency and have them arranged for it to be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs . Then you mentioned about having your passport certified by your own embassy (and suggested that it may be better to have it done through the translation agency). Are the two certifications (by the agency and by the embassy) actually refer to the same thing or they are separate?

    • @livetravelasia
      @livetravelasia  5 років тому

      They are not. I understand the confusion cause I was confused too. You get a certified copy from your embassy that you need translated by an agency and the translated copy certified by the ministry. I guess they assume thai people will be buying condos so they give you the blue book in the beginning and you just end up getting a yellow one as a foreigner but you still need to hold onto the blue one so you can sell it later. I think the pink ID card won't work for the national park entry fee. Every adult thai knows the genuine card for the thai citizen is in light blue one. There 're also several of card types of thailand resident , some is for the hill tribal people (I don't know how it's like). When the gate officer verifying your card , they may not immediately grant for thai rate. Either consult with their superior or just don't care and charging you as usual of foreigner rate provided that you keep speaking english just like when you were in Baan Chiang museum, Udon thani.

      Lol yeah idk either. Who knows. I’ve only heard from forums. I’ll report what happens. Back in the days a drivers license was enough to prove that you live here and pay taxes and shouldn’t be charged a tourist rate, maybe in the future it won’t matter at all and they just insist on charging based on where you are born lol

    • @livetravelasia
      @livetravelasia  4 роки тому

      Theoretically it should be possible if you own a home which I bought on a tourist visa

      Thanks For the informative Info. It seems I can't get the Tabain Baan on a Tourist Visa. The US embassy next appoint is available in 2 weeks plus the wait time for the Thai Govt processing time...next time. I live just around the block from the land office in Huai Khwang and will try to get my Thai drivers license for now. I bought my condo 11 years when the Huai Kwang/Rama 9 was not that developed yet. I go to Central Rama 9 most of the time. Buy you coffee when you are free.

    Make one for the people renting the property rather than owning it.

      Never stated there are any assurances with immigration. There are never assurances w immigration but having a yellow book does show proof of address there and as far as I’ve been informed by the immigration officer it helps. He may be wrong but I certainly can’t see how it would hurt. I personally haven’t rented a property long term nor do I plan on doing so. I won’t be making videos on anything I haven’t had first hand experience on

    Thais, they don't have middle names, only first and surename( family name) and certainly nickname.

      I'm always skeptic of the word "nickname" we thais use for translation. I don't think the original meaning match to our thai way of using ชื่อเล่น. Could it be any other closer word in english ? whenever I introduce myself in english in ชื่อเล่น ,I say " name at home among my family" I don't say nickname.

      Yes even in Korea we don’t have a middle name so I changed my Korean name to middle name when I was getting my citizenship in the states. But what’s interesting is that in America they don’t require middle names to even be put on documentation as its optional. In thailand they don’t have a middle name system but they have far more rules about putting it on. And because there is no middle name sections it’s confusing because forms will only have a spot for first name but they will insist on your middle name going there and it a particular order... so even Thais, unless they are a government official do not know where to record the middle name... in the last name section or first name section... This causes a lot of confusion and issues
