"We buy shit that we don't need, with money that we don't have, to impress people that we don't like." That's a real one Chuck. Yeah, that's how we do in the western world.
We are on the same page mate. When I really don't like something (someone) I can't change, I do not insist and ban it (her/him) out of my life. I've always had only one goal in life and that's to be happy, no matter what. So, I always did what I had to do in order to stick to that plan and I will continue. Yeah, life is short so there's "no time to be sad "😉, as we don't get another chance in it.
I'll be taking the same great leap in just a few months from now.
    Thanks for sharing, Cheers.

Great Video Chuck!!! Just stumbled on to your channel and have to say you have a calm honest way of expressing yourself. I live in California and I'm already in the process of moving back to Thailand. My mother is Thai and father American and speak fluent Thai. I've had some anxiety about picking up and leaving everything behind but your view on life and advice goes a long way. Thanks and Good Luck to you Chuck!!

Thank you for sharing somethings so personal. I spent a month in Thailand last Sept. I am now engaged to a beautiful loving Thai woman. We are waiting for her Visa now. She wants to see many things in the U.S. My home is near your old place, I live in Conroe, Tx. Keep up the informative blogs and keep teaching us a few Thai words each time. If there comes a time when she would like to move back to Thailand, I am open minded. For now we are just looking forward to providing each other with a happy life no matter where we are. I am 70, she is 45.

    Dear Chuck,
I have just stumbled on your channel while searching for Koh Lipe videos. I have to say that what have just said in this video is a treasure. I am 46 and I have already set a goal for my self to retire after five years from now. My plan is to travel the world but Thailand will be always my love. and I might just go and live there just like you, who knows.
    My best regards,

Watching you go down the street at the end reminded me of walking down the street in Palos Verdes Estates, California (Millionaire Village in Southern California) when visiting a childhood friend. You would think the people there would be happy and content, passing along the joy of life to one another. In reality they barely speak to one another. You may not have a million dollar life style, but you have a MILLION SMILE life style. Which in my book trumps any hoity toity millionaire. Keep on Truckin' Chuck and Page. :-)

If you feel the new place you live is home, it is. Depend on your thought, but you have to love the place&the people close to you where you are living. Thai people were thought by buddha teaching to be compasion and benevolent, expecially northeastern and northern part of Thailand like Chuck live, Thatpanom district, Nakornpanom province.

Chuck, it was almost like deja vu to listen to you. My thoughts mirror yours pretty darn close. The reason I found your video is because I wanted to come back to Thailand. I was in Udon Thani many years ago and loved it. I finally had my fill of the rat race and keeping up with the Joneses and decided to come back to Thailand. When my passport comes back from renewal next month I will be selling everything and coming to Khon Kaen to live. I have met a wonderful woman and we will live there next to her family. I hope to be able to integrate myself into Thailand as well as you have. As you said, life is too short not to be happy. Keep the videos coming. Love 'em!!!!

This man is my brother from another mother. I was also in the military. Became disillusioned with what i was doing decided to quit. Luckily i am a hardcore saver. I have enough stock dividend income/disability to retire in Thailand or somewhere else right now. I decided to continue working and go to school. Its a wonderful feeling knowing i can retire anytime I feel like it. You really don't care what your employer thinks anymore, you do it because you want to not because you need it to pay the bills.

Hi Chuck: You are awesome! You are like the great American Siddhartha. (With all my respect). You are the second Texan today that has blown my mind. Loved the American dream synopsis. I moved to Barcelona over 30 years ago. I've been lucky enough to have been able to reboot my life and start from scratch a number of times, so I know the joy in that. It's time to take one last joyous leap of faith into the unpredictable. Hearing your words remind me of how quickly the hourglass empties when all one does is stare at it. I wish you all the best on that road ahead. Thank you.

You seem very different, even if you had stayed in houston I can tell you're a different kind of person, humble, honest. Most guys I know here in texas (Rosharon texas,, 10 miles south of Houston) don't or can't talk like you, all I hear is SPORTS, politics, war, religion and, in a negative tone. Ha ha I'm about to watch your video on "why I don't hang out with foreigners" ........... I can already guess what your gonna say lol.......... "foreigners may get me in trouble" you never know how someone is going to act especially if drinking. After watching these videos I would be carefull too. :) but let's see what you're gonna say....

Well Said Chuck. I feel exactly the same way. I moved to Thailand for 5 years. I never slept better, total financial freedom and peace from the crazy fast paced USA. We are the same age, but I had my son when I was 40. So I have exactly 7 more years here to make him tough, smart and good. Divorce from my Thai wife happened, wish it didn't but I cant control that. I own a house and a condo in Pattaya. So as soon as I be #1 Dad, Ill be back. Tommy and I come every year for at least a month. Its hard to express that feeling you have in Thailand, no where else in the world is it as strong. Happy Happy Happy. I only started watching you about a year ago, but enjoy all your videos.

Chuck: Some people never get it but this is how I came to think about retirement....
There comes a time when we have worked enough. What I mean is that when the time comes, our continued working starts to resemble the "worlds oldest profession". We are just selling our "meat" for a price.
If, when you have had essentially had a "lifetime" to plan for your future, and have failed, then just keep working.....that is your future.
Me, what you say is absolutely on point. Fantastic!
I hear myself listening to you. I travel now....about 7 years in!
My wife and I have lived 160 miles deep in the Alaskan bush running the oldest hunting Lodge in Alaska for a year. What an experience. That was 7 years ago. Have traveled since..
    Kudos!

Hey Chuck, Not sure if you will see this considering this video is so old but, Great minds think alike. At 50 work and life was doing my head in, my wife and I had visited Thailand 4 times already and from the first visit we said this is a place we could retire too. Move forward a few years and life is stressful, I dont sleep, always concerned about my business and the ever increasing hold the government here in Australia is putting on the population, not to mention the pandemic and we are now 5 weeks from jumping on a plane and flying to Thailand forever...... I just stumbled across this old video of yours (have been following you both for several months) and your words really hit home, if someone asked me the same question my answer and story would be so similar to yours. Hopefully we will cross paths in Thailand one day as I would love to sit and talk some shit with you guys and ponder why more people dont follow their dreams.
Keep up the good work and look forward to more of your videos (we will be starting our channel once we arrive mostly for our friends back home that think we are crazy for moving)

I was originally from Thailand and move to US when I was 19. My step father was born and raised in San Diego so we had to move here. At 54 years old I have been thinking and trying to figure out how to move back to Thailand. Living in the US is not that fun. Lots of bill to pay so you money does not stay in your bank account very long. I am thinking to retire early at age 62 and move to Thailand. My daughter should be okay when that times come. Cross my fingers.

Love your video. Made me feel like commenting. When you said that you were pretty much where everybody else was. You and eyes lives were very different in the United States. I started as a schoolteacher but decided to start my own dog training business. Which grew from a small business into quite a large corporation. Started out making tens of thousands of dollars and ended up taking care of thousands of dogs grooming tens of thousands of dogs obedience trained over 5000 dogs and I loved it. Went to work every day a five minute drive away from my home and I loved the business. But hated my personal life. By the time I became 60 years oldI decided to go through a divorce, sold the business for a huge sum of money and began to live a single retired life. I’m too bought a travel trailer and I spent part of my time on the Rio Grande River In a trailer park and I loved the tropical Rio Grande Valley life in the winter time I reinvested my money in residential rental property and spent a lot of time on Facebook with my friends. I met a Thai school teacher and we began to talk every day I enjoyed our conversations. One time she said she enjoyed every conversation we ever have. Would I like to come and visit her in Thailand. I thought that would be a good idea. But I really liked Jeejee and figured if I came for a one-month visit I’d want to turn around and go back. So I sold my truck and travel trailer and I moved all of my furniture into a wood shop in the back side of my home. Cleaned my house and put it up for rent. Oh by the way I have been renting nine single-family homes for years I went to meet Jeejee and fell in love with her, the weather in Chiangmai, the culture of Thailand, the beautiful city of Chiang Mai. And I never went back except for visits with my adult children and my brother and sister and mother. GG and I go for a visit at least once a year. But I didn’t leave America I came to Thailand to meet a person. So I love living in two countries I’m not disillusioned with my country or what you call the American dream. Sounded like your nightmare. But I was Happy in America, and I’m happy in Thailand, but I would say my body is loving the weather in the tropical flowers of Chiang Mai over the Midwestern weather of Kansas City Missouri. Thanks for sharing keep it up I enjoy your videos

Your best video by far. I am doing the same thing. I'm 54 , quit my job, and am moving to Thailand. The short term plan is to Winter in Thailand and Summer in NYC. I realized that life is too damn short and unpredictable to go to my assigned "box" till I'm 65. You make wonderful points here and congratulations

Hi Chuck. Just stumbled on to your Vlogs and I'm finding them informative, useful and inspiring. Everything you spoke of in this video made so much sense to me.
I recently left a job I hated and decided to wind up my affairs here in the UK and move to N, Thailand. I'm almost ready to go and I'm both excited and a little apprehensive. I've done my homework and if I do have some problems, which I'm sure I will ( visa renewals/extensions etc) I have friends in Thailand to get advice from.
I couldnt wait until retirement because as you say, life isn't secure and there are no guarantees or fixed lifespans!
Take care and once again, thanks for the very useful videos.

I take my hat off to you both. I am retired now and doing whatever the heck I want (my husband and I). I travel. I spend $$ for whatever. I don't answer to anyone but God. My faith is strong enough to let him control the future events. 99.9% of the things we worry about don't happen anyway. Thank you for opening your heart to us strangers. You didn't have to. Maybe it is cathartic for you. Take care and hugs to sweet Paige. 🙂

Wow, watching and listening to you on hear is exactly what I am looking for. A small town like you live in and the life you live. I am also planning on retiring in Thailand in about 5 years. I wish I could do it now but I have other obligations like taking care of my mom who will be 93 in a month along with waiting for enough social security benefits to live on comfortably. I don't want to be in a big city and be all stressed out.

I fill in love with Thailand/(Not much Phnom Penh Cambodia) it was bad back then) 1972/1975 (USAF).I knew a lady from Thailand back then and at 18 she took me to the North to her people. There I found peace in those days of which I have carried in my heart since. Leave your dream. Being 1 year out from 37 years USAF/DOD. I AM DONE, and will start my new dream! Your right, buying trash you don't need! Sale it all! Sunrises/sets are for free, but fishing has to be a #1. lol

Hi Chuck, I just came across your channel. I've been living in Thailand for just over 4 1/2 years now. I, like you was an army mechanic but I served in the British Army but we both ended up in the los. I've just started doing some very amateurish vlogs about things I get up to here, nothing as fancy as your productions but feel free to take a look if you like. My camcorder and laptop both succumbed to the heat and humidity so I just use my tablet for now. Well I'll enjoy working my way through your content. Chok dee👍👍👍

This is so good to watch, to get to know more about you and your wife and the stressful phase of the past you left behind. I don’t know why, but I am really hooked to your videos and could feel and sense your emotions and feelings. Like I could connect to you so I totally understand where you are coming from. That was a long marriage too eh.. I bet there was heaps of ups and downs.. But, like what you mentioned .. life is unpredictable and you found or met someone who gave a new meaning to your life. Bless you and Paige . You guys are meant for each other to enjoy life and you guys deserve it.
Watching your videos and while enjoying and learning more of Thailand. I am also learning from your life’s perspective and experiences. The one liner phrases that you mention from some of your videos hit a note to me and I could totally relate.
I’m glad to have discovered your channel here and I even missed seeing your new videos. I think you guys are on a trip right now. I love your positivity and being hopeful, truth and the words of encouragement you drop from time to time. Enjoy your life and God willing one day I’d be seeing you and Paige in Thailand. Thank you for sharing your life and for spreading good vibes all over the world. Love from JP to you and Paige.

Very inspiring Chuck. All this rings so true with me. I was working 16 hour days in an all consuming job I hated. I liked to do my job well, unfortunately all the companies I worked for cared about was “qantity”, to hell with quality. So there was no job satisfaction constantly fighting with employers to do things right. Customers loved me but I was not valued by bosses. I was losing self esteem...dieing a little inside every day. I worked out that I was “ conditioned” to believe I had to “ live “ that way, but it was more an existence than “ living”. Then I went to Thailand for some of the best fishing in the world but also quickly fell in love with the country and its people. The main difference between us though is that my finances are not that good. I own property I would need to sell to make any move permanent. But I still hope to make it happen. I gave up my job which otherwise would have killed me, raided pension pots, realised I could just do this, live a little before I am too old to enjoy it. I don’t know what happened to my country but it’s no longer the haven it once was. I have been mugged, had 2 house break ins, 1 car stolen, cars broken into 3 times, no I don’t feel at peace here, something has changed for the worse. Teenagers spit and curse habitually as they walk around talking on their phone. To retire here I would feel like a “soft target” for those who just want to take what I worked so hard for.To me Thailand seems to be a culture based on respect, as it used to be here. I too need to make it happen!
