Married 19 years. Immigration asked why I don't get a yellow book. I agreed and took wife and all docs to local office, all in order but gave me a letter to take back to the city to get permission to issue me a yellow house book. I asked why, this is the district office that deals with registration matters. My marriage is registered here, land we have, house, why go to immigration when they told me come here. Blank stare! On no account was I going to the city to make a fool of myself. It's not an immigration matter it's a district matter and the yellow book gives no rights to anything just handy to have. Its like turning the table and going to the district office asking for a visa extension. I knew I would be talking to myself so dropped the idea completely. They had every document required and sent me on a pointless trip to immigration. Immigration could issue a proof of residency certificate but that's exactly why they said just go get a yellow book. Never win.
Yes i know Thailand can be very frustrating sometimes and also very inconsistent. 😕 The yellows book does not have huge benefits and you are correct you can get a proof of residency from immigration. Sometimes the system sends you round and round in circles with no sense. Hope you got everything sorted
I haven't heard of many that refuse but i know some offices may be reluctant tp issue them especially if you are not married or on a shorter visa. The local amphurs are also required to log locations of all foreigners in Thailand so the book assist with this. Some offices may not like issuing them especially out of Bangkok
That's very handy information, for anyone doing this sort of thing. Though 'a lot of documents needed' always sounds depressing, these are quite reasonable and neither hard to obtain nor expensive. David
My local amphur won't supply me with my yellow book and a pink ID card I was on a retirement visa at the time. I applied again once I was married, after jumping through hoops and hoops I was successful. The amphur was in Pathum Thani
Actually being married to a Thai is not required, but makes things easier. Many years ago when I got my TB the District Office required a translated copy of my passport certified by the MFA. Also, I had to provide my birth certificate (translated) showing my parents names as well as my kids birth certificates. All inanition to the other documents in the video.
I got mine very easily in Nonthaburi. It took a few hours and was all done on the same day. I haven't found any use for the ID card except for being just that, an ID card. I mean it can't be used anywhere that needs a Thai ID like the ''All Member'' 7-Eleven app for example. Still good to have anyway.

My address affidavit form from marriage is over 12 years old so they said to go and get a new one notarized by my embassy. Does anyone know where I can download to print that form? The one on my embassy website is for marriage so is slightly irrelevant.
Officially they can be issued on most visas BUT the office might not issue them if only on a tourist visa. You are better waiting until you have a Non O or Non B visa.

So, after getin my pasport certificate from my embassy , then I make my pasport translation to thai, then I have to take it to the Minister of Foreiner affairs for certification, then I go to the amphore to get my pink ID card with a thai person ?? Is this correct ? Thanks
My sister has a condo and a yello book, I live in her place but she is not in Thailand, how can I get my pink card if she is not here, is it posible to show a fotocopy of her passport and the original yellow book ? Thanks.
No you do not need a work permit. These are issued to prove address and not linked to working. If you do have a work permit then they may ask to see it but it is not essential.
It doesn't change any of the laws on owning land. It just serves as an alternative Id and also a proof of address instead of having to get a certificate from the immigration.

Its not 100% necessary but it does come in Handy if you need to prove your address. If you stay in Thailand and need to get a Driving license / finance etc then many need your address. You can get a certificate from immigration each time if you prefer but the yellow book just saves on that. Also you get a cool little Pink ID card. :-)
