**IF THIS DOESN'T WORK FOR YOU** If the walls and roofs are red and don't' ever turn green no matter what you try, it may be because you're using a mod that allows you to scrap everything in your settlements. Mods like this prevent the group select feature from working properly. So you must temporarily disable the mod while you're using this technique. If you are not using any mods, then it's possible you're doing the technique wrong. This technique still works on all platforms as of the date of this post.
Thank You for your work & effort 🙂 Who would have guessed that several years later all these FO4 videos would make a STRONG Come-Back? Well Done indeed! 🙂
not all roofs for example, fix so easy some you have to make an entire second floor for these glitch fixes to cover it and go green this is why everyone who does these videos uses the house that's easy to fix for their demo's.
I follow a couple other channels about building and repairing in Fallout 4 but sometimes they over complicate things. Your video was easy to follow, short and to the point. Thank you!
I just decided to play again F4, this time as a female character and after watching this video I was going to write the same comment as Yours, Patricia :) So, instead of full comment, only two thumbs up! :)
I really wish that when fallout 4 was originally made, with sanctuary they would have added: 1) ability to delete all standing buildings in sanctuary 2) delete everything deletable at once 3) an undo function
This is not the first video I've seen using this glitch; but it has some of, if not, the best demonstrations I have seen. They are methodical with ample explanations without being tedious. Also, it seems like a small thing, but it is nice for people on different platforms that you don't just name the buttons you mention what they are primarily used for. One last thing, I don't know if it is useful information or not. However on my first playthrough, before learning about all the various tricks and building glitches, I learned something while trying out different ideas to patch and/or build on top of the houses in Sanctuary Hills. If one climbs up on a roof or closely looks through some of the holes from inside there is a a metal frame in the roof for each house, and one right above the ceiling tiles separated by a space slightly higher than the thickness of the shack ground floor. Through experimentation I found each set of frames has its own collision mesh, so with a steady hand and *a lot* of patience, one can place thin objects and building pieces between them. That was also how my first character (made the first week after release, so everyone was still trying things out) fixed the roofs in Sanctuary and made all their interiors count as sheltered areas for beds, etc... I made rectangular sections out of the corrugated tin roofs in the wood set (they are the same as the ones used in the wooden pre-fabs) and then used the multi-select feature to more or less thread the section in that space so it would sit on the frame above the pre-existing ceiling panels. As stated I don't know how useful this is, as the method you showed is so much quicker and blocks the sunlight and the falling rain effect. better since, as demonstrated in the video, the floors can be stacked using the rug glitch. Still, I thought someone might find it interesting.
Why there is no "fix houses" quest for some high amount of material, people (without work) and time as part of the vanilla game ?.... shame. Thank you for this. This is actually what i wanted to do but didnt know how :)
@@awesomeentertainment977 When people say vanilla, they're referring to a game that doesn't have any mods installed. Vanilla fallout 4 would be fallout 4 without any external mods installed.
YOU ARE SO HELPFUL THANK YOU. I know these are older videos but I have been totally hopeless with building lately and you've given me so much inspiration!!
Great tutorial! As someone else commented, I was using paintings to cover holes. Never heard of the rug glitch, but I'll be using it tonight. Thanks for the great video! :)
I run to concord, kill the raiders, enter the building where Preston is, kill the raiders, run right passed Preston for the bobble head and the power armor, he says "really your just gonna walk away" lol Preston I just killed a town of raiders and cleared your building solo while 5 of you hid in a room yes im just gonna walk away.
I put a Powered Door connected to a switchbox in front of a room with a Loot Chest, then you can flick the switch off to lock the door(everytime you are done storing/resting,etc) and keep these villagers away from your loot. Just do NOT put the loot box up against a wall or the sneaky villagers WILL grab your loot through said wall from the outside.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Trying to find a way to put doors on buildings has frustrated me beyond measure! (I'm new to the whole building settlements from ground up) this has been sooo helpful! Thank you, again. ❤️🙏

That was great. All those messed up houses and not being able to fix them up in a game that encourages you to fix stuff up! With a building program in the vanilla game! Jeebus. Thank you much, this is so satisfying.
OH my, you can't imagine how glad I am I found your video. Clean, straight to the point, and you explain really well! Finally I can fix my ugly ass neighborhood lmao They should let you delete the "usable" houses too, like even the shacks look better lol So thanks a lot! *w*

Just getting into the game and this explanation was much easier to follow than a lot of other videos with similar themes. Still wish the mechanism allowed you to patch holes more easily. Maybe an option to paint over the walls after. Oh well - core gameplay and storyline outside the settlement stuff is still interesting at least. Feels like there's so much the game doesn't tell you which admittedly is something I'm not used to with most modern games.
Thanks for the video. I never minded the walls too much, but I did wish I could put in more doors, and make the roofs look like they'd actually be able to protect the interior from rain.
I love that your showing this with the x box controller, which is what I use. Also if you don’t know, the warehouse doors kinda work on the houses here and any other old houses I’ve found. They open and close although there’s still a bit of a gap I just tell myself my settlers aren’t good carpenters
Hmm I appreciate the video but for some reason I can't group the objects with the mat and I'm pretty sure I'm doing it right. Did they patch it out so it won't work anymore?
This isn’t working for me, does anyone have any tips? I bring the parts in on the rug but it won’t let me place it, regardless of whether or not the space is clear for the rug
Thing is these are modeled after the Lustron houses which being prefabricated homes were extremely modular by nature meaning that panels and framing from one should fit neatly and cleanly onto every other one. Panels don't even need to be room specific so it would have made sense with the junk houses that were only good to scrap for Bugthesda to instead allow you to salvage them to repair the others.
You can take those "ceilings" out once permanently installed them. If you accidentally screw up or whatever. Just build a platform next to the house at the same level, then use several rugs to connect the two and pull the entire thing out.
I remember deciding to buy this game the day before it's release It was my first fallout and till this day I'm playing it it'd such a masterpiece unfortunately some of its bugs kinda annoying but the building part is my absolute favorite
