I’d love to see you try Mell’s steam method! It looks interesting, but I wasn’t sure how it would work on looser curls. And i didn’t want to buy a steamer just to find out😉
I bought a cheaper steamer from Groupon, and it works great! Mine has a smaller reservoir than Mell's, I think because I have to refill it to funish my hair. It feels so soft on my hair and I just glaze some gel over it when I'm done steaming. And I am good to go!
Definitely curious to see if it works on wavy hair before I go out and buy a steamer! (I am forever looking for a good way to refresh--nothing seems to work for me!)
That beginning! 😂😂😂 I've found that any method where I smoosh my hair into a small space overnight just tends to make my waves really wonky. So I do an in-between method where I basically do the scarf tie, but leave the end open and let my hair lay flat as I sleep. I supposed I could accomplish the same thing much easier with an untucked buff, but I haven't bothered to invest in one yet.
Most nights I pineapple with a satin scrunchie. I find the invisibobble pulls my hair sometimes when I try taking it out in the morning. I do the satin scarf on occasion (if I'm not super tired and feeling lazy at bedtime) as well and because it's a larger scarf, I'll purposely leave it lower so it doubles as a sleep mask when there's too much ambient light in the room.
Invisibobbles get stuck in my hair too but I found these fabric wrapped spiral ties that don't stick to my hair www.riteaid.com/shop/scunci-fabric-covered-spiral-twister-8-pk?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrrS7yvil7AIV-R6tBh3VLA_ZEAkYByABEgIEu_D_BwE
I’m so relieved to hear that you don’t use the specific washing instructions for the silk pillow case and it’s still okay 😅 I pretty much stopped using mine cause it was such a hassle to wash it by hand with shampoo and then vinegar lol 😂
Same, today I tried spraying 2nd day hair with water and scrunching more gel but it just looks so frizzy I put in bun... then it makes me want to just straighten my hair then it’s good for 5+ days
I would love to see you refresh with Manes by Mell’s steam method. Also, I put my hair in a buff at night, and I use a bobby pin behind each ear to keep it from falling off during the night. Thanks for the informative video!
Would love to see you try Mel’s steam method. I go back to straightening my hair cause it always looks like a frizzy mess the 2nd day and I can’t figure out how it refresh it.
Hope you had a good nights sleep. 😴 I use a combination of the pineapple and the Medusa clipping. I gather my hair in a ponytail, wrap it around my hand and make almost like a bun. Then I use one big clip on top of my head to hold it all together.
Yes!!! Please do a steaming video! My lo porosity waves/curls get nice fullness from steam, but my curls go flat. I'd love to learn what I'm doing wrong 💕
I avoided pineapples for so long because I thought there was NO way my barely wavy hair would bounce back the next day. But 2 weeks ago I tried one out and was shocked by the next day results!! It really is amazing. Also, as soon as you said the word "travel" I got very nostalgic thinking about those days.. lol!
currently on a mission to watch all of your videos and i’m almost done but i had to make time for this one! i’ve been needing an updated video on how to sleep with waves
This was exactly the video I needed!! My hair either just slides right out of the pineapple when I sleep or I ruin my curls trying to take it out in the morning. I can't wait to try these other methods so that I can actually have decent day two hair!!
i like to use an adjustable bonnet! i do have a satin pillowcase but it’s not quite as smooth and satiny as my bonnet. i also feel like a bonnet helps trap the moisture in better! i might have gotten into the habit of wearing my bonnet on washday (during the day) if i don’t have anywhere to go and i want to preserve my curls for the next day.
I would love to see you do a steam refresh from Mains by Mell. I have tried it but just don't seem to get as good of results as she does but I have more looser waves like you do. Also any chance you could do a generic refresh video for after working out what to do? I feel like my roots get super sweaty and even when I take it out of the ponytail right away they're still pretty stretched out. I think I over wash my hair because I work out most days before work.
I'm also a wild sleeper, and I've found that your method works best for me: pineapple on a silk pillowcase. Thanks for the idea of traveling with a silk scarf to put over a cotton pillowcase! I'm super high maintenance and usually bring my contour memory foam pillow with me, but the scarf idea would be great if there wasn't space to pack a pillow. I'd also love to see a steam refresh on your swavy-curly hair! I've been thinking about buying a steamer, but all the people I've seen have curlier hair than me, so I wasn't sure whether it would be effective on my hair type/curl pattern.
I started the cgm agai for like the third time, laziness and wanting to change my hair in different styles made me stop several times but then I always missed my curly hair and regret my choice. I hope following you helps me at keep going on and resist to the evil styling tools XD Anyway I tried to sleep with a bonnet and it always slipped away if I didn't use bobby pins but I didn't like it, I slept badly and had headaches no matter how I put the pins, so pineapple and satin pillowcase is it for me, sometimes simplicity is the best way
I've recently tried Pinappleing my hair. It's so long i need to loop my hair twice. And I end up looking like I have a messy bow on the top of my head. Very comfy to sleep in though.
I'd love to see how steam works for your hair! I just do the pineapple as well, I just can't stand the "pressure" of a bonnet or buff on my ears/head, maybe it's because of my fibromyalgia and sensitivity to touch, but I just can't.. 🤷🏻♀️
I travel with a satin pillowcase because I ordered my 6 year old granddaughter a satin pillowcase in pink, and her 4 year old sister (who has big loopy curls) wanted a purple one. So thanks to Amazon, I got 2 sets pretty cheap, and I have 2 spares for travel. 🤓
I'd LOVE to see you try the steam method Mel uses to refresh curls! I've been very curious and even have a steamer. But I've been too afraid I'll undo my curls since my pattern is more like yours. ❤️
Thanks Courtney. I'd like to see Manes by Mel's refreshing method. My hair is too short to pineapple. I feel like I've been trying to grow my hair out forever. I have a satin pillowcase which helps. I have a bonnet, but it either slips off or makes my head itch. Love all your videos!
Thanks for this. It has given me more ideas on how to sleep with short loose curly hair. I use the bonnet but still have to wet my hair and restyle my day 2 hair. Haven’t found a good way to refresh hair yet either. Curious about the steam refresh method.
I have a couple satin pillowcases I switch out. I don’t use silk and the satin cases don’t require any special treatment. Plus, they are very inexpensive.
I'd love to see you try Manes by Mell's steam refresh! My 2B/2C hair always seems to need water in the morning to make it look any sort of presentable and I've been thinking about getting a facial steamer to help decrease how much water I put in my hair. Thanks for all you do!
Thanks for the alternative ideas. I'm getting poor results with the pineapple. My hair doesn't settle. It remains big and poofy until I wet it down thoroughly. Color treated but not heat damaged.
I would love to see you do a steam refresh video! I have been playing around with it as well and could use some pro tips. I’m very curious and can’t find the answer anywhere, if I am prone to frizz should I be using glycerin free products, regardless of the environmental Dewpoint, because I’m refreshing with humidity?

How about using a bamboo pillowcase? Silk makes me hot, but my bamboo works fairly well. My hair is still a little frizzy in the morning, but I don’t get so hot.
I do Medusa clipping and then put my hair in a silk bonnet or scarf before going to bed because my hair is short and it’s working okay! I can’t wait until my hair is longer so I can preserve them easier lmao 😂
