I was 22 watching this live and I've been quoting that "the kids are playing their tails off, and their coaches are screwing it up" every year since then. Every year a coach should say this during an interview to pay homage.
i was on the team at michigan state at this time. it was so confusing as to what was going on when we sent in our field goal team. we didn’t have the whole PAT out there and it was only 3rd down is was a GA that sent them in
The underrated part of this: watch how the Buckeye defense isn't sure what to do but gets lined up properly for the block. I think A.J. Hawk gets Ashton lined up on the edge and makes the play.
The assistant coach he yelled at is Josh Harrica. In 2022, he was my daughter's high school principal in upstate NY. Very kind man, a great school leader... he is well respected
I remember this game. Up 17-7 on TheeOSU and getting ready to kick a chip shot FG at the end of the half to go up 20-7 and boom John L and his coaching staff strikes again!
all on john l smith. The head coach tells the ST coach when he wants them out there. The ST coach can't tell the offense to spike it thats on the head coach.
No coach that's left Louisville has ever succeeded anywhere else afterwards. Schnellenberger lasted one season at OU, Smith flamed out at Michigan State, Petrino imploded with the Falcons then couldn't keep it in his pants at Arkansas, and Strong bombed at Texas.
I remember watching this game live. My boss at the time was HUGE Michigan State fan so I entertained the notion of rooting for MSU. Spartans played the first half tough and smart; and deserved to be in the lead at the half. But seeing them pretty much shit their pants during that last debacle of a field goal attempt changed my mind, could never root for MSU after that; poor coaching, game management, situational awareness.
I can't believe that after this fuck up, Harrica is now my gym teacher and the worst on ive ever had, I want to put this video in my senior video, bet he will get a good kick out of it :)
That kicker would probably have missed it anyway. that was John Goss. he was 4 for 11 that year. Cost us the michigan game. John L kept blowing people out at the beginning of the year and never let the kid kick to see if he had it. We found out he didn't have it during the clutch moments. They would have been better off with Haughey.
+Autumn Rock Your school might go up in flames, watch out. He is AWFUL at petty much everything he does. John L. is a master in the art of failure.....he practically wrote the book on the subject.
Matt, Amanda, and I think Larry, we all should go around the school and protest. Get him outta our school. Most of everyone hates him. Also, when he talks to you..he like fuckin spits on you its nasty. TAKE HIM BACK PLEASE!! Signed, an angry kid from NCCS XDD
I played in this game and when that happened we knew it was over even though we were up 3. That took the wind out our sails. " They are who we thought they were, and we let em off the hook! " Smh
@sonofsarek totally agree. At least Michigan kept the same endzone design when they switched back to turf. Also, the green part of the Ohio Stadium turf does not look close to the proper hue of grass.
hes the dean of students at my school i think in my opinion hes a little stricked but mr harrica is a great dean of students hes not mean to me hes a little stricked but whats you got to be at school you cant be sweet you go to be nice and stricked

One can only imagine what Nick Saban's reaction and response would have been if he had been the head coach on the Michigan State sideline.

@J Brown he wasn’t supposed to. It was very hectic on the sidelines we were winning at the time.
I’m a die hard MSU fan and this is just funny. I don’t care what team you root for, this shit is funny.
You ain’t seen nothing yet. You got a new John L in town.
I like how Smith is trying not to go off on a nasty swearing streak. Boy was he mad.
Huge MSU fan, but I have lots of love for THE OSU. The announcer after JLS's interview, "honest assessment" 🤣
Gotta love the theme music from 2:47-2:57
I miss it.
Even though it was the BCS era, I miss 2000’s college football.
There are a lot of great coaching rager moments, but this is vastly underrated and deserves to be up there with "Playoffs?!?!"
The underrated part of this: watch how the Buckeye defense isn't sure what to do but gets lined up properly for the block. I think A.J. Hawk gets Ashton lined up on the edge and makes the play.
This is the one downside to being at the game...missing this meltdown haha
LOL I was also at this game. Bobby carpenter on espnu radio this morning referenced this game and I called in to reminisce this moment 😂
Buckeyes ended up winning, 35-24. I was there - that play changed everything.
Same. I was there too. This was devastating.
I was at this game behind the goal posts here. We (OSU) were getting our ass whupped. Total momentum changer for the whole game.
Bill C yeah that changed the whole game
I was there too. Amazing momentum changer for sure...
The assistant coach he yelled at is Josh Harrica. In 2022, he was my daughter's high school principal in upstate NY. Very kind man, a great school leader... he is well respected
What a reversal of fortune for the Spartans. They later went on to lose this game. HAHA
Yea, 20-7 vs 17-14 in one play.
The 2 score difference with your offense on the field is a very impactful scenario.
Before App State blocked Field Goal
and 1 year later, he is now HEAD coach at arkansas, thanks to a freak motorcycle accident

it's all on John L for sure but it was some idiot grad assistant who choked that call.
Because Louisville is small enough they can be rogue and get away with it. Just look at their basketball program...
@JohnVanHofLegend This really aged like milk. lol
Schnellenberger was good at FAU. There basically is no FAU without him.

the guy who blocked the punt and recovered it was my cousin
Did he die? Why isn't he your cousin anymore
The guy who blocked it wasn't the same guy who recovered it. Lmao...
The coach that put the special teams out there was my new principle cuz he got fired after that game
Was your cousin? Did he die?
He was my cousin too, hi fam
I can't believe that after this fuck up, Harrica is now my gym teacher and the worst on ive ever had, I want to put this video in my senior video, bet he will get a good kick out of it :)
I was at that game on the 20 yard line on the east side of the field as Youboty came down the line. Sweet!
I was reminded of this today against ASU. Yikes.
This is great. Harrica gets fired then and is now our new Althetic Director at my school. God Harrica, get your shit together.
You know its Mussberger when you hear "A.J. HOCK!!!"
The person the coach yelled at got fired and now he works as the high school princable at my school
Well woopty do

wow he works as the dean of students now at a high school
masked man yup.. sadly he's mine
Oh, John L...he just couldn't close the door on those big games...
he’s principle of my high school now lmfaooo. man fucked up
"a school that WAS one of the top teams in the nation and WAS in serious conversations about a national title!!"
I thought he coached for Arkansas.
I’m a diehard spartan and John L was a clown. Does anyone remember when he slapped drew stanton in the face after a game? Lol
He is the Dean of students at my school now... lol...
+Autumn Rock Your school might go up in flames, watch out. He is AWFUL at petty much everything he does. John L. is a master in the art of failure.....he practically wrote the book on the subject.
Not John L. Smith, the guy he fired I this video.
Autumn Rock Oh, I gotcha....you may be safe then. Maybe. Everything John L. touches or comes in contact with withers and dies.
+Autumn Rock not only dean, now hes the principal L O L
Nccs squad
HEY MICH STATE YOU CAN HAVE HARRICA BACK! =) ( 0:36 ) -NCCS
SMILE!
OSU sure could have used that play at the end of this years game.
That was Urban Meyer’s greatest team
the penalty as described by the ref is illegal substitution
Smile!
10-7. I'm going to Indy. Are the Bucks?
Way Before Kick Six 2013.
Why did they even tried to kick it in the first place when they were leading 17 to 7 I'm laughing
20-7 is better than 17-7 before half. Especially if you’re kicking off the 2nd half
Oh man, I remember shiting my pants during the first 2 quarters. Unimpressive showing. Then this comes on and it is a classic.
mel tucker and the boys basically *just* did this against wisconsin lol
Matt, Amanda, and I think Larry, we all should go around the school and protest. Get him outta our school. Most of everyone hates him. Also, when he talks to you..he like fuckin spits on you its nasty. TAKE HIM BACK PLEASE!!

Was at that game.

I was at this game, precious memories..Go Bucks!!!
John LOL...do not miss.

Michigan state threw the ball on almost every down in this game .
I miss that natural grass field. That new FieldTurf is garbage and hurts my eyes.
T-1 seasons until the coaches f*** it up
Boty walked like vick
