As an Irish fan I will say this until the day I die, ND should've let him score on that 4th and 9 play. ND had Brady Quinn, Jeff Samardzija, Maurice Stovall, Anthony Fasano, and Darius Walker. ND was at home with all 3 timeouts and would've had at least 1:20 left. On top of it all, USC had no defense that year. There's no doubt in my mind Notre Dame would've been the team that scored with 3 seconds left instead of USC.
Looking back, what a FING joke ND is, was, has always been. 18 years later. * ND is 0-14 in the last 14 bowl games against TOP 15 (15). 1995 CO last T15 team. * Part of a conf, 1 time in its history. 1 conf title game in its history, a loss (Clem, 2020 I think). * always faced Navy in the last game so their bowl matchups were never threatened.
I have never had my heart broken like this. Greatest game ever played... maybe... probably... but the Irish gave it away and to this day I cry myself to sleep.
@@craigleisen7856 That was when Texas beat USC right? This game broke my heart. I’m old enough that the last game prior to this that broke my heart was when Boston College kicked a game winning field goal a week after “The Game of the Century” in 1993 when #2 ND beat #1 Florida St.
Ah, the good ol' days. I literally jumped up from my couch when Jarrett caught that pass. My emotions went from feeling like I was gut punched and knowing the season was all over and at the hands of ND no less, to sheer joy.
I went over to my friends house to watch this end of the Michigan game -_-. This was the greatest Saturday in the history of college football. Sooo many unbelievable finishes.
Dwayne Jarrett was the reload of Mike Williams. Like Jarrett, Williams had no breakaway speed, but he had size and could dominate DBs like no one. Both were part of Norm Chow's offensive strategy of creating mismatches. The speed was in the running backs. Reggie Bush doubled as a wide receiver, so that's where USC had the breakaway factor among the receiving corp.

Everyone talks about the "Bush Push" and rightfully so as that was the winning play but dont forget, had D Jarrett not caught that ball at 4th and 9, USC would have lost. USC football is FABULOUS. Beating ND is ALWAYS GREAT!!!
a couple of "what-if's" in that NC game. at the beginning of the game when Bush had a big run and for some reason decided to try to lateral to another USC player and turned the ball over...he NEVER did anything like that the whole season! that was the first WTF moment.
Lendale white played with two of the fastest players ever in Reggie bush and Chris Johnson and he was there when bush won the Heisman and when Chris Johnson ran for 2000 yards 😂 he needs a podcast
I wish jeff schmadzja went to the NFL be was super cold , I can't believe d. Jarrett went on to be a bust even lendale white 😂 had a 1000 yard season in the nfl
Gators, winners of two out of the last three titles. This year we will make it 3 out of 4!!! USC had their run a little while ago, now it's Gator time!!!
This still gives me chills! And I miss when SC Norte dame & Michigan we’re on top. I hate the sec and I can’t wait for that overrated conference to be garbage again.
My eagles 😂 probably drafted Trevor laws off that Matt leinart sack alone, guy was a bust and we drsfted him over desean Jackson originally, we had two second round picks that draft
He was better off letting Jerrett score. USC had no defense that season. ND would've had a minute and 20 seconds left with all 3 timeouts. No way USC would've stopped ND.

Ohh NO! Sanchez gone to the NFL?!?!?!?! What will USC do? Pay a recruit to come from another school just to win the one game that they cherish most? Get a life. See you in 10 months.
@mrjackcoffee I don't like SC . . . but that is pretty chicken-shit to try and claim a victory in this situation, W's are earned on the field, not in a board meeting 5 years after the fact. It is a good illustration of how desperate ND fans have become though.
Jackhandy00 although this post is year's old. Look at how the 2 programs have switched places at the top since then... USC hasn't been relevant since Carroll left and have had 3 10win seasons in last 11 years. I hope for both these historic programs Lincoln Riley can bring back the greatest and the best college football rivalry when both programs are at the top again. I know this is a rebuild year for the Irish and 11-1 is not bad and I didn't expect that at all. The next 2 classes coming in have the best recruiting players we have ever brought on. Let's hope sunny southern Cali will do the same.... 🍀
The football team AND the University - both overrated. Obviously one of the greatest team + school in history but not anymore by FAR. Way too overrated
One of the best games ever
Everyone talks about the push but the balls it took for Leinart to drop that dime with the season riding on 4th & 9....

What a clutch throw by Matt Leinart
I’m not a fan of either team, but for me this is one of the most memorable regular season games of all time.
Best football game ever played
I was there. My GOD I was there. Fight ON!!!
best day of my life..... came back from corpus with 3 big bull reds and my limit of trout and came home on the final drive... it was sweet....
Jarrett lacked the breakaway speed, that should have been a touchdown
Yes I agree but even after watching this 4th down play years later I am glad Dwayne made a clutch play.

@Nickthemonkey08 without a doubt. 4th and 9 was the play that everyone knew after that usc would win. im a ND fan, after that play, it was inevitable.

that's sports....one moment of absolute joy and anticipation, and the next moment..utter grief and shock...
He went to jarrett
I see what you did there.
LOL! 😄
Still hurts. Nothing you can do about a pass like that.
broke my heart...was watching at work
I'm sure there a lot of USC alums, who turn off the sound when watching this video. I'm sure you guys know what I mean!

that is the loudest I ever herd that stadium on tv
Charley really needs to eat a salad ..................
We feel the same way about the Texas game, but probably worse actually.
Rusty Curtis no way, texas is not our rival. And texass does not think they are god's gift to college football unlike with nd.
That tackle would be 15 in the NFL today
I wish jeff schmadzja went to the NFL be was super cold , I can't believe d. Jarrett went on to be a bust even lendale white 😂 had a 1000 yard season in the nfl
@1usc2 i remember after that game my dad got drunk and i remember seeing him sitting in the corner with a beer and crying...scared me for life
Charlie’s greatest win was a lost .
gotta say though, notre dame is the best at losing the biggest games.
Jim Harbaugh at Michigan: Hold my beer
Gators, winners of two out of the last three titles. This year we will make it 3 out of 4!!! USC had their run a little while ago, now it's Gator time!!!
Damn I remember this time
Definitely would've cried in the locker room if I were #22...that had to be the worst feeling seeing that ball land in his hands
As far as ND loving the QB keeper; actually USC does and also it shows that USC QBs take help wherever they can get it, (ND I DO MEAN EVERYWHERE!)

If you're trying to say that USC can't win big games with grace you are wrong, they just can't win!
What was ND safety #9 looking at? The only threat to his side was the WR who the QB threw the ball to and he took a bad angle.

6'5 frame from new bruinswick new jersey NO PROBLEM! all the way to the 10.

What happened to Jarrett. Thought he would have had a nice pro career
impassable too slow
@killabuffalo well, except for the past 3 seasons, you couldn't really call ND/Navy a rivalry since it was prety lopsided, lol....
magic
