    Straight edge razor cuts is definitely next level opposed to shaving with a safety razor or a disposable razor. Me myself, I want the closest shave possible so I'll be using the straight edge to do so... Good vid Boss, it helps big time... Appreciate it!

      How often do you need to strop it?

    • @rm5282
      @rm5282 4 роки тому

      @@travelworld8688 strop a carbon steel blade before each use. Be sure to get some blade oil to protect the blade if you store it for long periods of time without use.

    I place my free hand's fingers on the top of edge of the blade for extra control and so I can feel the angle I'm shaving at. I usually only do this for the back of my head since I find it's actually easier to get a clean shave by feel, check for spots I missed in the mirror, then get those. It takes some practice knowing how each blade works with your scalp, which is why the straight razors with replaceable blades are nice because you can just get used to the feel of that blade, but I still prefer traditional straight razors that you sharpen mostly because of price, but also because I enjoy sharpening blades and find the activity soothing.

    I just saw one video of yours I’m a girl. So most of the stuff you talk about beards and what not. I don’t relate. I like that you go into detail and explain every movement with the straight edge Razor. So even tho I don’t have a beard 🧔 I use the techniques you show us how to hold the straight edge. You are a lot of help. Keep up the great work. With out people like you that take the time to show and go into details and patient and very thorough . It’s like second nature to you. I appreciate you! Thank you 😊. Bless you my friend 🙏🏾. Yes!... You... Do you! You will be a awesome Barber 💈

    I've seen one Barber using a Double Edge safety Razor before that I've been watching on here on UA-cam. But mainly its straight razors. And the Best Pre Shave oil to use is the Excutives shaving company's Water soluble and it won't clog up the razor or leave any hair in the Sink. all the Best Robert :)

    +George ogbeide I like that you went through the procedure very slowly. It was very easy to follow you, great job!
    Do you have a video covering effective razor bump products for men of African descent?
    I would love to use my straight edge on my head but I have some razor bums at the nape of my neck and head. I also develop them on my neck when I use a razor there.
    As a result, I have been using a trimmer on those areas for years. However, I really like the clean look you presented and would like to give it a try.
    I have used a straight edge all my adult life so I am very familiar with it. Keep the videos coming, thanks!

    Two questions: 1) How does a double edge compare to a straight edge in terms of closeness of shave? 2) With my Gillette Fusion, I'm able to go against the grain without irritation. Is that also possible with the double edge and the straight edge? Thank you!!

      I've used both the Gillette fusion and a straight edge for shaving my face, neck, and head.
      Hands down, the multi-blade like the fusion 5 blade will always be better for against the grain, and against the grain always gives the closest shave.
      At least in my experience.

      Good looks G'. It's a lil tricky using a straight razor vs a safety razor for your head; so be cautious of the angle you pull the blade. For the beard tho, once you get the hang of it it's perfect! No line up is complete until I put a straight razor to it! 👌🏽

    Hi, I am pretty new to DE shaving and ran across your video. I noticed you use Noxzema, I was watching a video earlier that suggested Noxzema Classic Clean makes a great pre-shave. You already have the product, couldn't hurt to try it. The person on the video suggested it's the same stuff in the Poraso pre-shave. look into a Alum block, it will help with the nicks and cuts.

    • @scottbarnard8593
      @scottbarnard8593 7 років тому

      I tried the Noxzema Classic Clean as a pre-shave and it works excellently. Just rub in vigorously about an almond sized amount into your beard and let it sit while building a lather, just apply the lather over the top. It can clog up your razor if you use to much, but my shaves are much better.

    Takes a lot of patience. You need to have some level of arm endurance. I also agree about the single use. A pack of 100 is about $20 bucks. No reason to reuse and risk a nick or cut. I tried the persona reds....didnt like them. I stick with the PolSilver iridiums.

    I'm new to your channel so I dont know if someone has suggested this before, but have you tried Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving soap? I tried it after watching a few other reviews, and it seems amazing compared to the few others I have tried. It lathers up alot with very little effort and feels like it provides a better glide for the razor. I'm no expert or anything, still learning and trying new things in the world of DE and shavette razors.

    Hey Nate been following your page for a while and I appreciate all the info you put out. Ive tried a safety razor but after I cut myself and dam near took two chunks out my head I went back to electric shaving. Im thinking about trying the safety razor again, but I also was thinking about using a cartridge razor whats your thoughts?

    I just started shaving my head a few months ago using the pro shield cartridge razor. Didn't really like it, plus the cartridges are highway robbery. Started looking into better ways and you were the only black person I found shaving with a de. I thank you so much for introducing me to this type of shave. I'm scared as shit to use the straight razor though. My question for you is why don't you go against the grain? I started out going against so I guess I'm just used to it the shave is a lot better than with the grain. & do you plan on doing reviews for different de razors like the murkur futur & others UA-cam ppl go crazy over?

    I had that problem with my DE Razor. Switched to a Butterfly Opening DE Razor and it's still the same clogging issue but I can get it out with a swish in my water bowl.

      @NateMatthews  8 років тому

      +Snac I was thinking of trying a butterfly to see if that helped but you've answered that mystery for me aha

    • @abdulmalik6196
      @abdulmalik6196 8 років тому

      You should try a adjustable de or a more aggressive one with a larger gap. My butterfly doesn't clog, but I haven't started using the bowl and brush so my lather probably isn't as thick

    Good vid man. I just bought a straight razor for face and head but never used it before. This is going to be a learning curve for me but I think the experience will be very good. Gotta say that I nicked myself around both ears when I used a disposable shaver. I'm sick of those things. I see you went with disposable razors instead of having to strop the straight razor...any particular reason why?

    So is straight razer the best way to do heads because I'm kind of sick of using normal razors. That and standard razors I feel like are always useless after one pass. I used a disposable razor at work cause I noticed a small spot I missed in the bathroom and I got pissed lol. Seems like it's easier to run straight blades.

    Just bought a straight razor since a number 1 on an electric razor wasn't good enough and using throw away razors I just got cut ,how that works out with a straight edge razor I have no idea I might end up looking like Freddy kruger but I'm willing to try lol
