You mentioned a good point. Yes, we can make it by extruding the main box too. The main box has more segments on the bevel. But the second part has less, so to make that bevel (with fewer segments on the chunky part) we need to edit the mesh first. So creating a separate box gives us more control and it's easier to modify.

Very useful thank you. Bevel modifier wasn't working at some point, I had to merge by distance to fix it for some reason.
Glad it was useful. Overlapping vertices can hold the bevel and yes, merge by distance can prevent further issues.

I know there’s dozens of ways to do things in Blender, but why not just extrude instead of building the second box for the chunky decorations?
