    Idk I don’t think the natural hair movement was “hijacked”. I think alot of BW didn’t like their hair so they watched women who had the hair texture they wanted. N sadly tried to “change” their hair pattern with certain products etc. But there were type 4 girlys making videos back then, but type 4 girlys weren’t supporting them. I remember bc I watched them. There are many BW that have looser textures and they needed to be represented as well. It was called “the natural hair movement”. That’s how I saw it.

      I don’t see it that way, it was somewhat hijacked. I watch “natural hair” vids and that algorithm kept putting people that don’t look like me in the way, everything will get whitewashed because we can’t have anything, some white woman or man always needs to say I have naturally curly hair too, they weren’t wearing their hair “natural” until we did.

    The "Coily Fro Community".
    Drop the word HAIR and use FRO instead. Infiltrators will be attracted to HAIR but they will not be able to go past the FRO.

    Our community puts too much emphasis on length of hair instead the health of our hair. I'm learning to get more comfortable wearing my 4c hair out in a society that encourages wearing wigs and chemically relaxing our hair.

    Unpopular opinion: I dont think we should make another hair movement. We should just support women with natural hair that looks like ours. Let the actions be the movement. We know relaxers are damaging and we know weaves can damage as well if done incorrectly or worn more than required to the point of the real hair being neglected.

    • @CoffeeCuties777
      @CoffeeCuties777  3 місяці тому +4

      Thanks for your insight…and I agree about educating ourselves on what is damaging to our hair and rather or not we create a new movement or a subgroup within the natural hair community their needs to be a clear distinction between curly and Coily hair so we are get the proper representation we deserve and so we can learn to take care of and love our unique hair type. Not every product that works for curly hair works for Coily hair and Coily hair products doesn’t always work on curly hair so we need products that cater to our hair needs. These are some of the reasons why I feel we need to identify ourselves as the Coily community. Rather it’s considered a subgroup or a new movement I agree that we also need to support women with natural hair that looks like ours🤎

    Why are we still using a hair chart that was created by a man who didn’t even put it on the original hair chart. I love this video and whole paradigm but if you say that we should pedestalise our hair why are we using a chart that puts our hair last it sounds contradictory. If we are truly trying to break this so we can actually truly pedestalise our hair we should rid ourselves of it completely.

    Stop waiting for the world to celebrate our hair (and our beauty)and celebrate it OURSELVES as a form revolution. ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼
    We keeping waiting--IN VAIN--for the world to deem us worthy. WHY? I'm honestly tired of it. We don't need to be the standard. The "standard" is BO-RING...and us lamenting not being it is starting to really grind my gears. So let's just...STOP??? 💁🏾‍♀️ We are unique. Kinks, coils and curls are found everywhere. But *Afro* hair is specific to one continent and people...if you got it, you know!

    • @ravenrebel3183

      The invasion was the other way around. I was a part of the early natural hair movement of the 2000’s, and it was mixed race women making spaces, products and brands to embrace our curls. Next thing I know, language is being expanded and mixed race/curly brands are catering to black women after black women complained. Hell, they hated the creators of Mixed Chicks for embracing being mixed. It was ridiculous. Then we were accused of usurping “your movement” all while black women infiltrated our spaces and demanded our curly products cater to their kinks-which they refused to actually accept, and tried that whole movement to get their hair to create curls (shingling, twist outs, braid outs, etc). Why would we infiltrate a movement we created and already mastered? Us mixed women have been loving our curls for 2 decades now, and have well-established products and communities, so what would even be the point? More likely, black women won’t actually flock to the Afro spaces and stubbornly stay in the mixed curly spaces to convince themselves they have curls 😒

    I am so glad to see this channel. Thank you for reviving the Black natural hair community. I'm not sure what happened during the initial natural hair movement, but towards the end I witnessed a lot of hate. It seems what could not be achieved in curl pattern was achieved in unnatural length. I am all for loving the way we are made as individuals and ethnically. I hope this movement will create a huge LOVE for all of our natural beauty. I do use the word shrinkage because I hear it used as a negative term. I prefer to use the term "hair stretch." Some of us have more amazing stretch than others. I want to see people refer to their stretch as a good, healthy, desirable attribute to hair. Less stretch is okay, but super stretch is magnificent!!!! 🤓❤❤❤

    I KEEP THINKING ABOUT YOU AND THIS TOPIC. just here to add more distinctive adjectives to specify for our movement.
    #COILY #KINKY #SPRINGY NATURAL HAIR MOVEMENT??
    i guess why i came back to add this is because i realize the concern i have with the word coil is it describes the shape and i feel some mixed girls have coils and will literally hear that word and still feel the need to co-opt but those three words( together although longer) just specify very specifically that when the girls with "zendaya type hair" can understand the difference and the specifics.
    #CoilyKinkySpringy ??
    #the 3 Y's ??
    idunno just my brain farting all over this topic😂😂😂😂 Coffee hopefully you consider adding these suggestions id love for you to sound the alarms and make this the defining words to help us move exclusively.
    okay im backing off now lol

      @@CoffeeCuties777 Thank you thank you for your reply luv. I guess my only suggestion is to make afro hair number 1 instead of 4 ( i did not come up with this i am sure i heard it from another creator of which i cannot remember right now). I believe it should go kinkiest/coarsest to straightest/thinnest. Also i think porosity should be incorporated if possible in the chart as well

    • @LI8A__noir
      @LI8A__noir 3 місяці тому +12

      I believe part of the “high jacking” was also the result of type 4 women over manipulating their hair to appear in the type 3 range.
      I disagree about shutting out the other type 4’s. Because, (unpopular opinion) 4c hair can appear as 4b and even 4a when properly moisturized and it reaches a heavy enough length. Let’s not forget about 4z girlies!!!
      This movement is not just optics. It’s encouraging mental/emotional rehabilitation as well as promoting styles unique to our hair group alone. Honestly, let’s stop placing blame on other women and simply get on the pedestal 😘

    • @Ehlaar
      @Ehlaar 3 місяці тому +2

      @@LI8A__noir nah. These coils need their own movement we need to normalize our texture 4a and 4b are already on a pedestal.

    • @LI8A__noir
      @LI8A__noir 3 місяці тому +8

      @@Ehlaar I still (respectfully) disagree. There are plenty 4a/4b women who struggle with embracing their hair texture. Example: I briefly worked with a woman who has 3c/4a hair just like me. I always wear my hair in ‘ethnic’ styles and she always complimented me. However, she relaxed her curls because she felt her hair was too “childish.” What’s crazy is her hair is longer than mine!! AND she has a daughter with the same gorgeous hair type.
      Another example: my cousin who’s hair I haven’t seen since we were children doesnt have 4c but I know she’s type 4. Her hair is completely fried and outside of braids she only wears her hair straight.
      So, 4c girls may have it hard but they aren’t the only ones struggling with embracing their curl pattern & texture.
      We shouldn’t keep dividing ourselves like this. This only breeds resentment when we’re all in the same boat

    • @Ehlaar
      @Ehlaar 3 місяці тому +2

      @@LI8A__noir everyone else will be alright figuring out their needs. our needs are different we need to stay together and gate keep. I know porosity density and other factors play a role but its time we look out for us! We got this! 4c no more looking out for others.

    • @ambersummer2685
      @ambersummer2685 3 місяці тому +4

      I disagree. Even people with curly hair struggle loving and caring for their hair too. As long as women with type 4 hair love their hair the way it is, it shouldn’t matter.

    My thoughts:(1)Kinky coiled hair is not limited only to black people.(2)I do not buy products based on the race of the owner.(3) I feel that even if your hair is relaxed or chemically treated it is your natural hair. If you didn't add it to your head, it is your natural hair in whatever style you choose. However, I do enjoy being educated about my hair type. 🙂

      Thanks for commenting and I’m aware that other admixtures of women have kinky coily hair however this page is focused on black women and our hair. I personally do like to consider who I’m buying my hair products from and I also consider if they are representing type 4 hair types as well and on this channel the other ladies are checking these things as well and lastly relaxed hair is real hair not natural because it’s chemically processed🤎

      @@CoffeeCuties777 Please explain. The 4A, 4B, 4C Afro-textured hair is literally a phenotypical genetic 🧬 marker exclusive to BP of African descent. There is no such thing as a yt, Arab, Asian person with Afro-textured hair unless they are bi-racial/multi-racial and have some African ancestry. Maybe the commenter meant to say “ethnicity” and not race. You will never see a WP or an Asian who has no African ancestry with Afro-textured hair that grows naturally from their scalp.

    • @blessed3779
      @blessed3779 2 місяці тому

      This is biologically and genetically 🧬 incorrect. Yes, there are Afro-Palestinians, Afro-Israeli’s, Afro-Latinos, Afro-Asians, so forth and so on that have 4A, 4B, 4C hair; but they are still BP with different ethnicities and nationalities. It is literally biologically and genetically 🧬 impossible for a WP, Arab, Asian person to naturally grow Afro-textured hair from their own scalps. The Afro-textured hair is literally a genetic marker 🧬 for BP of African descent. So if you see a person who presents as yt but they have 4C hair texture you automatically know they are probably bi-racial with a black parent, it is literally the only way they could have the 4C textured hair.
