I owned a 1975 Rival 32 ' Secret Arrival' for 20 years and I still miss the boat. Great boat and great design. My friend here in Newfoundland has a Rival 34 which he and his wife have sailed to Greenland, Caribbean, and to South America and back to Newfoundland and Labrador. They still have theirs and continue to sail it everywhere.
You really can't beat Rival yachts. They are absolutely fantastic at what they do! Amazing offshore passage making boats and great to Potter around on the weekend in. I wonder if arrival 34 has ever sailed around the world or will we be the first 🤔🤔✌️
Enjoying the vids and seeing some of the beautiful British isles experiencing real weather and tides....no bikinis and volcanic islands ? Heh..... Advise you find your own theme tune as sailing tarka has same opening credits + compelling story. . Was once in Cardiff library and heard the Welsh male voice choir. Was very moving. Great tour of Atlas. She is a credit to you, looking very ship shape and welcoming. A great advert for anyone wanting a Rival. Look forward to your next hop North. Andy UK

She should be named SV. ENVY. Because that's what the tour evokes in me! (Or maybe TARDIS, obvious reasons!) The 200+ hr sanding job - looks great! Thanks for the Vid lads.
Great ! I was comparing with my Rival 34 , Dart Rival 1986 . The only thing I prefer about mine is the Taylor's paraffin cooker I have . You have done a great job on the teak inside her . I have owned mine for 17 years now , I cant imagine the day I will eventually have to sell her !
Sounds like you will never part with your beloved Rival. They are such incredible yachts I don't think we will ever sell Atlas ⛵. Are you a member of the Rival association?

Really enjoyed the tour! Outstanding job and great to see brothers that are living on board the vessel and no doubt you can see the love for one another!✌🏾 I’m jealous
great tour guys , had a boat many years ago with a BUKH engine, never gave me a moments bother , an old seadog once told me it was most reliable engine ever made , seems he knew what he was talking about. Keep up the good work , loving it.
Well done Lads, you did a first class job, introducing us to your floating home. It is a credit to you both and shows the hard work and hard cash you invested in your Rival 34. I wish mine was in as good a condition. Best of Luck lads, Fair Winds & Following Seas.
thanks for the boat tour.. you have done a nice bit of work on all the timber... looks like it is warmer where you are than the east coast of Oz.... cheers
Rival are old school, but very well built, like all the storage. Very classic and nice line, and your buck is very nice. I have a centurion 32, 1973, Wauquiez, Holman Pye design.
This was great guys. I loved it. People who sail and are going to do what you are doing love this type of stuff. It's real, how it is, and how you are living these five months. Brilliant. Loving your channel. All the best. Andrew
Fair do's Lads your boat is proper tidy. I do appreciate an older boat and quite fancy a Contessa if ever I take the plunge and buy one. I'm with Luke on the tea, I live off the stuff. Nice looking Anchorage you're at there too.
I've been contemplating buying a boat for a year or so, but I've been thinking of much larger boats as they're more suited to what I eventually want to do, but after watching you guys gadding about in a much smaller boat, I''m looking at buing a very inexpensive 26ft boat, also with a BUKH engine (although a DV10) ... I may as well make my mistakes on a boat that doesn't cost more than my house! And I'm blaming you ... I hold you completely irresponsible for my actions ... but watching you guys has given me a kick to just do it. Thanks
Thank you very much for such a fantastic heart warming comment 🤭. We say go for it!!! It's the best thing my brother and I have done 👍 and buying a smaller boat to get into sailing is a great idea. BUKH engines are extremely reliable as long as you look after them 😃. If something goes wrong with your boat we will take full responsibility!! 😁😁
@@TheSailingBrothers The engine in this boat is a non-runner DV-10 ... but it's a 1970's single cylinder that's built to be taken apart and put back together again, and I'm a bit of a grease monkey so that's no problem. Standing rigging is 9 year old stainless, and the boat itself is 1970's solid glass with bilge keels. I won't be breaking any speed records, but slow is probably better for my level of experience :D Anything that goes wrong is 100% my fault ;)
As I sat here at home on the other side of the world (Tassie), on a wet drizzly winters day I got to enjoy a boat tour. What a really awesome boat she is, classic lines, and in top condition. A real credit to you guys 👍. She really looks like a great Bluewater cruiser that can take you pretty much anywhere. It’s exactly the kind of boat I would like to get one day when I can afford to. Mind you I need a wheel as tillers confuse my poor brain 🤣. Looking forwards to the next vloggy of your UK circumnavigation.
Yes the tiller is left to go right and right to go left 🤔🙄😁😁. Hopefully one day we will sail her around the world I think she is ready, are we!!! Thank you for your comments 👍👍
Really nice, practical and above all rock solid seaworthy boat! Beautifully rebuild work, especially the sanding and varnish work around the galley area. Trusty, honest sailing videos you make guys! Very easy to relate to.
Thank you very much Vegard !! I took all the skin off my fingers sanding for hundreds of hours in all. When we bought her she needed love and was a bit neglected especially the woodwork inside and out. We have probably spent over £15,000 since we bought her updating and restoring her. 👍👍
I have been following your channel now in Panama. ( loved panama. We cruised it for 2 yrs before going on to the Pacific). It this was a cheap boat you got a bargain. She is beautiful and built for what you are doing. Happy crossing.
Hi Fred Panama is really nice. The people are fantastic and it is seriously hot. We did get a bargain with Atlas. She did need some work and now she is tip top ⛵
Thanks for the boat tour. A very personal thing to do. You must be very proud of how you have made your boat so lovely, and rightly so. A credit to you. My boat will be a little smaller, a 25ft folksong. She is in Hull at the moment and waiting to be surveyed. Then, do I sail her, or stick her on a lorry, back to Sharpness. Maybe you could tow her the 800 miles 😜 (I jest). Anyway, thank you for sharing another smashing vblog, appreciated.
Thank you Paul for your comments. If the weather is right you should sail her back it will be no doubt a fantastic experience sailing your new boat home. We are extremely proud to own Atlas!! 👍
That’s me all up to date, great videos lads, and great to see you making good progress, while showing some great sailing on a beautiful Rival. She is immaculate and a credit to you both. We got a Bukh dv20 on our konsort, solid and reliable, just keep lots of spare water pump impellers 😂👍👍👍
We have tons of spares for the engine and keep it well maintained with regular maintenance. We are really enjoying making videos for everyone to enjoy the adventure
Shipmates!!!!! Wow!!! She must be the finest Rival out there and a credit to you both. I can't believe that the floor in the saloon and the wood generally is in such condition " new." The electronics to are impressive. RAP her up I'll take her now. With all those up grades you have a super blue water yacht. As always great presentation and eagerly awaiting your next episode.
I sailed 1500 miles across the Indian Ocean (Thailand to Maldives) on a Rival 38, they're all great long distance boats. Yours is a cracking example, rarely do you see such a well looked after, well set up older boat, she's a beauty and I'm sure will take you wherever you want to go...

Great tour of the boat ,would be interesting how much you bought it for how much you spent on repairs etc,and how you got into sailing at what ages etc ,is there another video about this ? And get in the water its not that cold in scotland 😨😂😂😂 fresh water swimming is good for you lol spotted a fishing rod too any catches yet ?😕
Hi Eddie thanks for your comment we have roughly spent about £15000 since we bought her modernising and refurbishing her. We were lucky enough that our dad had a jaguar 25 yacht in Cardiff yacht club when we were kids we learn to sail mirror dinghies then That's when we caught the bug!! We will be doing a q&a video soon 👍
Awesome ,its a great boat great footage of her from the water, looks bigger than you see from on board, ah lucky boys great skill to have learned as kids ,what will come first a fish ? Or a dip in scottish waters 😂😂😂
@@TheSailingBrothers Just discovered your channel. Love this boat tour. Beautiful boat, not that I know anything about them, just looks great and seems very practical too, from the storage to the engine and everything in between. Look forward to the q&a.
Hi, Guys you really made that an interesting tour, in fact, was the best I have ever seen you must of shown every nook and cranny of storage and space, you both have done a remarkable job on restoring and would be, interesting one day to see what condition the boat was in when you first got it so if you have any pictures would certainly many people who watch your videos would find it interesting, You said that you will be changing the batteries as you have some great plans for the future are there any hints for us of your plans??. keep the great content coming lads as we all hungry for your news and adventures as you sail. kind regards ... robert
Thanks Robert as always for your comments. We have pictures of the boat when we bought her and some of the restoration work maybe we will put it in a video!! Hopefully next year we will be sailing Atlas across the Atlantic but don't tell anyone!! 😉
Beautiful boat. You guys did a fantastic job refurbishing her. I would get bolts of less length for the Windlass but what do I know, I don't own a beautiful sailboat:)
The boat looks great guys, you've obviously worked hard to get her like this. One question, what was the hard oil you used on the interior woodwork. Thanks!
I can see the love that has been put on this boat. Awesome to see such detailed video. 18:03 Don´t you get a lot of seawater inside through that chain locker in a seaway? Is that original? Fair winds!
beautiful boat, amazing amount of storage - just the job for a long passage!!!! We hope to put in a windlass and chain locker on our Pearson 31, do you have any drawings/photos of of the fore part of Atlas, above and below deck? Our current anchor locker is no more than a tub under the deck, with insufficient space for a necessary rode, line or chain We have space for a lunch hook only.. We would need to rebuild the V-berth to accommodate a hawspipe/chain locker/windless. Ideas/configurations/specs if you have any will help.
Tons of storage, we do not have any drawings unfortunately but you should be able to get them online rival 34 specifications I should imagine. Sounds like a hell of a lot of work to fit a windlass in the Chain Locker, good luck with that Pauline
Hello Gays . Fantastic boat. I just got the same and will go from Chichester Harbor to Greece . Could you tell me how is sailing this boat please. When is good or bad weather. Thank you very much . Take care .

Hope you don't mind but you said you're doing a Q&A and I have a few things I'd like to ask.
You said in your channel intro video that you did this journey before on a cutlass. Are there any particular things that you learned from that trip that has influenced this current one?
What has been the biggest differences that the increasing boat size has made?
Is the 'around Britain' the longest journey you've done - I know you've still a long way to go with this trip, but do you have any plans for adventures further afield?
Atlas is beautiful - you've obviously poured your heart and sole into her. How much time would you say do you spend on maintenance?
What's your favorite thing about her, and is there anything you really don't like?
You two obviously get on really well... but what do you fall out over the most? What's each others worst habit???!!!!!
As you share the boat together, have there been any decisions about things/upgrades/where things should live etc... that you have disagreed on? And how do you sort it out if you do?
When on a long trip, what's the hardest thing to cope with?
And what's the best sailing moment you've had?

We will be doing a q&a video soon 👍
Oh oh we haven't caught any fish as yet and and we are two chicken to go swimming hahaha
We're changing out our flavel Vanessa this year, originally from 1982, has been on it's last legs for a while.
We are not sure how old how our oven is it looks pretty dated but still works great 👍
Hi, Guys you really made that an interesting tour, in fact, was the best I have ever seen you must of shown every nook and cranny of storage and space, you both have done a remarkable job on restoring and would be, interesting one day to see what condition the boat was in when you first got it so if you have any pictures would certainly many people who watch your videos would find it interesting, You said that you will be changing the batteries as you have some great plans for the future are there any hints for us of your plans??. keep the great content coming lads as we all hungry for your news and adventures as you sail. kind regards ... robert
Thanks Robert as always for your comments.
We have pictures of the boat when we bought her and some of the restoration work maybe we will put it in a video!! Hopefully next year we will be sailing Atlas across the Atlantic but don't tell anyone!! 😉
You don't see boats anymore this tidy! I have a cape dory 30c and plan to do some refit to make more storage and more livable.
Thanks James really appreciate it buddy 🙏
Lovely boat!
👍👍
Great tour boys, and Atlas is a lovely boat :)
Nice one Chris 👍
Nice one Chris 👍
Beautiful boat. You guys did a fantastic job refurbishing her. I would get bolts of less length for the Windlass but what do I know, I don't own a beautiful sailboat:)
The bolts came with the windlass they are very long I suppose for a thick deck 👍
The boat looks great guys, you've obviously worked hard to get her like this. One question, what was the hard oil you used on the interior woodwork. Thanks!
Thanks Adam! You're right a lot of work has gone into this boat. I used Fiddies hard wax oil. Any hard wax oil should be the same 🤘
I can see the love that has been put on this boat. Awesome to see such detailed video. 18:03 Don´t you get a lot of seawater inside through that chain locker in a seaway? Is that original? Fair winds!
She is a beauty and we have put a lot of time and money into her. She is a very dry boat don't get a lot of water inside at all 😁
beautiful boat, amazing amount of storage - just the job for a long passage!!!!
Cool video. Great job with that wood. Can you shower on board? Kudos.
Cheers Terry.
The wood took a lot of time but was worth it. We have no shower on board 😥
Hi lads great boat tour she a credit to you. Was your boat tour in loch ryan

Hi, the rivals are fantastic sailing boats, they are really good in Heavy Seas and a blow. Very stable yachts, they are also pretty good at reaching
