Interesting fact: you could hear a owl hooting outside Merlin's house in the original kh1, there was a drop water sound too but these sound effects was removed in the remix version, i don't know why tho cuz i think it's cool.

Hey, you're right! The hooting owl is no longer there in the ReMix version.
One thing that I noticed in the KH2 Final Mix ReMix version is that the original Roxas battle grunts where replaced with Ventus' BBS battle grunts instead. I don't know why they made this change, but I don't really mind.
Here's what I think. I think as they were working on Kingdom Hearts, they originally wanted to make Riku the main villain of the game.
even in the final game you can kinda see remnants of that in the plot, i'd even wager to say that "end of the world" wasn't even supposed to exist, I mean really, what happens in that world, other than the ansem fight? just a bunch of heartless encounters, I think the game was originally gonna end at hollow bastion
@@oathkeeperofoblivion972 It would have been cool to see that dynamic between Sora and Riku carry out as the real final boss fight. Perhaps Ansem was originally just Riku completely giving himself in to the darkness, aging him and transforming him with that immense power, until they decided to make him his own character with relevancy to the plot. It would slightly explain why EotW is mostly empty besides Chernabog and the majority of the Heartless.
@@RexcorJ this makes a lot of sense, and I'm inclined to agree, though, granted, it's a classic final fantasy troupe of "But he's the real bad guy!!!" maybe it was planned, probably not, though, just knowing both square and Disney
@facts Not of the series, but I can see it as the end of Sora and Riku's story, rather than extending it for so long in such an awkward way. I love what we got to an extent, but this seems like a good idea to me at the same time.
@@RexcorJ I actually heard that Dragon Maleficent was planned to be the final boss, hence why she was so strong. So, going off of your theory, perhaps, perhaps you'd probably fight Maleficent, seemingly defeat her, and then you'd take out Riku before Maleficent comes back as a dragon.
Or better yet, maybe the Dragon could've been Riku's Heartless after he completely gives into the darkness in one last final attempt to take out Sora and the gang.

Fun Fact: In the kingdom hearts 1 Ultimania Nomura speaks on a super interesting detail: "The words that appear in the opening were actually words that an actual character was going to say in the ending. Please enjoy speculating who was going to speak those lines." Not much just thought I should share it to those who might not know.

For a 2002 game kingdom hearts had surprisingly good graphics for its time

13:06 I believe they actually reference the trailer in the ReCoded cutscene movie when it gets to part when Data Sora goes against Darkside for the first time at Destiny Island where he does the exact same thing with a bit more pizzazz. It's one of my all time favourite moments because of the throwback, with the same music and all. (✯ᴗ✯)

I once herd that Chernabog was originally meant to be the final boss instead of Ansem.
I mean Disney wise he should be the final boss. Maleficent is the mistress of all evil, but after defeating her you run into the literal devil. Could have worked as a final boss in a different game
I remember Chernabog coming from nowhere so that kinda makes sense.
im replaying kingdom hearts 1 right now it feels different from the rest of the games. the charm in the first is unmatched imo

While you were talking about the fire magic in the beta trailer, it looks like a soldier heartless bounced off another soldier heartless as if they could get sent flying into each other.

There is a certain charm that KH1 still has. I can still play it to this day and have fun. Probably because the story wasn't convoluted as fuck back then. It was simple and clean*winks*

I personally LOVE the magic system in 1 over 2 and 3's. There's just something right about slapping stuff to get MP back. Though I DO Love the ability that you can parry attacks to get some MP back as well.

perhaps, before they released the game, they had the thought of sora being chosen but eventually may of had the idea of Riku suddenly being the true chosen keyblade wielder, which makes the hollow bastion scene much more understandable.
It’s already a trope in Japanese media that the original chosen one is the main character’s rival, not the main character themselves. But eventual the main character proves they are a better fit than original choice.
Actually the keyhole on the door in the Secret Place IS present in the final game. Riku sees it appear there in the second flashback to when he and Sora were little kids.
There a beta trailer of KIngdom Hearts 2 Sora, Donald and Goofy fight the Heartless at the Hollow Bastion castle from Kingdom Hearts 1.

There's concept art of sora actually having different designs like every world having it's own costume also there's images of what could be a actual model of sora's early design back when he had the half boy half lion look
Aswell as sora and riku holding their keyblades in different postions like the keychain for example

One thing I noticed about that reaction command segment is that the bottom menu option actually says しょうかん (Shoukan), which means summon. Which probably means the summon command was originally intended to be in the bottom of the command menu in the original kh1, like how it was in 1.5.

It becomes blank when Sora jumps onto the Darkside's arm, and the slot itself is context sensitive in the final release, like a Reaction Command from KH2.
My theory is that there were going to be more uses for it in the final game.

It's most likely an equivalent to the Reaction Command in KH2.
In KH 1 PS2, the bottom most command in your menu was a context sensitive slot, and not a Summon slot like in 1.5.
If you pay attention, you can see that the slot itself has text on it until Sora jumps up onto the Darkside's arm, in which it becomes blank again.

Yee, that's how I would always fight it. Well, the later one near the end of the game at least. I played KH1 so much my munny maxed out and I 100%d the game. Still have the save file on my old memory card
He forgot to mention that in the Beta, Donald and Goofy meet Sora in the First District of Traverse Town and not in the Third District like the final cut.

@TrellTinsley193 the original RE4 got changed to Devil May Cry 1, i'm sure a lot of stuff was changed but there might still be some concepts left over from og RE4

We do actually see the door with the keyhole design in the secret place. Eventually. Just not that soon in the game.

it's worth noting that Sora's character model in the Remix is slightly different than the ps2 model due to the fact that Square had to recreate the game after having lost the source code
The updated model was actually lifted re:chain of memories, with some minor tweaks here and there. The original model looked dated in comparison to the superior model that they already had.
Also these changes only apply to the high poly model, to my knowledge. I'm sure the lower poly gameplay model is the same, if not, almost identical.
@@kokonbini the most noticeable thing is how much lighter Sora's hair is compared to the original. I'm pretty sure I had heard about it being his CoM model before but regardless I still think it's worth mentioning since he's comparing beta footage to the Remix when the context of the video is beta vs the final version (assuming "final" here is referring to the original ps2 release)
@@Some_Random_Guy They used DDD Ansem model for the KH1 HD so I assumed they also used DDD Sora's model and just changed the outfit for the Kh1 ReMix.
@@loganbigmo there is actually a DDD model of kh1 sora, you play as him in the prologue/combat tutorial, iirc they used that version of him

6:38 Really?? I never even tried First-Person Mode in KH2. Probably because there was never a real point for it in the first game. That's cool.
Fun fact about kh1 mainly it's conceptual stages,sora and riku were at some point in development able to wield and use their keyblades in different positions such as the keychain,and 2 things one is that it seem to be that there's a model for sora's early design as shown in a document i will link as a reply and that concept art for kh1 showed that they didn't plan on having any disney aspect in them,it seems like the that kh was originally a sandbox open world game based on a concept showing what is presumed to be the main character at the time climbing the skeletal remains of a beast or dinosaur

Also one last tidbit i almost forgot about kh1 ansem in the brown cloak originally wasn't ansem and he was a cloakes figure who was going to stalk sora throughout his journey and leave vague hints
Cleaning up the Dalmatian House alleyways is probably so that it doesn’t look too filthy for a married couple and their dogs to live in. Since Roger and Anita are both fairly well off and their house in Traverse Town implies that they may be some of the higher class people there, so the developers probably realized that people like them wouldn’t want to live in an alleyway full of what seems to be construction materials.
3:38 one thing you forgot to mention is, Although Donald & Goofy's Traditional Outfits were replaced with their Unique Kingdom Hearts Outfits, their Traditional Outfits were still in Kingdom Hearts as the Outfits Donald & Goofy wore at the end credits scene in Kingdom Hearts 1, and the opening cinematic and beginning of Chain of Memories.
On the back of the American Strategy Guide they also have their portraits drawn by Nomura which I always thought was so cool.

also if you go frame by frame at the part where Cynical says 2mp bars for Thunder, you can see that the 3mp one gets selected and Sora does Thunder

Sora, Riku and Kairi’s beta faces look like Zidane’s Face from FF9 imo but with more expression since it’s next generation hardware. Very interesting video, this lowkey felt like a DYKG video. We need more videos like these.

Having another playable character would have been already been in the Beta, and would have been mentioned if it was cut.
@@JohnWilliams-wl9px the text at the end of the beta, hints at it very heavily the hole we have to save sora, also playable kairi is just a very alpha thing that got scraped quickly, most of the things in this trailer were removed.
@@AlexxxMYLSince2013 I think you need to look closer most of the stuff in the Beta actually is in the game in some form just change slightly. Even Riki scene at Destiny Island animation resembles the final game where Ansem is giving his speech.
“We have to save Sora”, is one of the many of the text mentions Sora’s fate. It literally could be Donald for all we know. Even then early plan for how the party reacted to Sora turning into a heartless.
Since in game development the Beta is the phase where features are locked into place. They don’t really cut features like a playable character out.
Plus a major thing like Kairi at one point being playable Noruma would have mentioned it. After all the man is shared a lot of planned ideas that were cut from the final releases of each game’s.

I remember seeing beta screenshots of KH1 from the Electronic Gaming Monthly August 2001 issue 145. First time I heard of Kingdom Hearts in my 8th grade years. Also remember seeing the E3 & TGS 2001 trailers of KH1 back in the late 2000s on youtube.

You didn't mention some of the text where it says "We have to save Sora!" and other such things which makes me think that at one point Sora was going to die or something. I've always wondered that since I saw the trailer back in the mid 00s.

Can we talk about the KH2 beta images vs the Final Game?
Maybe Riku was originally planned to have revealed to Sora that the darkness in his heart drew the Heartless to their world Clayton style, and that the destruction of their world would free them to explore many faraway worlds (later it'd be revealed that he met Ansem and had a bit more productive a conversation than when Sora met him), convincing Sora that Riku's lost his mind and decide to attack him in hopes it would snap him out of it or stop the destruction of their world

also i imagine what you percieve as a reaction command is simply normal gameplay with something different with the camera, perhaps the camera was going to work differently to follow the arm as sora climbs it

I do agree that KH1 has a lot of charm story-wise. But the stiff gameplay compared to 2 and 3 makes actually playing it more of a slog for me. Maybe it’s because I’m a relative newcomer to the series, though.

I think you should have used the PS2 versions for the game since that was the original release and the HD remix had to change a few textures since Square Enix in all their infinite wisdom somehow lost the source code and had to literally rip assets off the retail version and remake the other missing assets
to be honest i kinda prefer this Beta trailer more than the actual KH1 trailer. this one was kinda eerie and mysterious with no Actual dialogue and just dive into the heart playing. Rather than the actual one that is like HEY LOOK IT'S DISNEY! with the Magical and whimsical simple and Clean orchestral version playing. it's just You sitting there listening to Dive into the heart and wondering "what is going on? what am i watching?
