Before you scroll down to the comments to let me know that the 6th generation version of Philosopher's Stone came out after the 6th generation version of Chamber Of Secrets, I've already been told that about two hundred times.
I'd love to see your opinion on Hogwarts Legacy compared to all the EA games! I grew up playing the original 3 HP games (philosophers stone and Chamber of Secrets on PC and Prisoner of Azkaban on PS2) Hogwarts Legacy feels like I'm dreaming. The combat is insanely well done, the collectables are super fun, and the exploration is superb 😁 I've been waiting for this game for the past 16 years
I've always believed the first Harry Potter games were based on the books not the movies, which is why you see gnomes that never show up in the movies.
And also why: -You see Peeves -The Bloody Baron is mentioned -The potion's riddle under the trapdoor is in the first game -You see the Deathday Party in the second game (Gameboy Color and PS1 versions) -Potion ingredients for the polyjuice potion are seen -You bring Norbert to Charlie Weasley's friends in the tallest tower (PC version) Etc. Edit: changed my comment to include the PS1 version of the second game as one of the versions with the Deathday Party.
The music of the first three games is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard and since little has been with me, it’s just a very nostalgic and cozy feeling
I was so disappointed when they overhauled everything with the fourth game The atmosphere of the first three games, largely contributed to by the beautiful BGM, was just never matched by any other HP game Not even Hogwarts Legacy got that magical feeling down right
The first 3 PC versions were my favorite as a kid and I'll never forget them. I remember playing Goblet of Fire and being disapointed because of how boring it was. Then after that I went back and played the old games and never played the new ones.
Goblet of Fire was totally different from the first three but still a great one. Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince were not that nostalgic but were good on their own right (since you could explore the Hogwarts of the movies), but the last two games did not catch any of the nostalgia of the earlier ones.
I agree, and I played both the PS1 and PC versions as a kid. Chamber of secrets PC version is my favorite out of all Harry potter games, it has an incredible soundtrack (pause menu track is nostalgic as fuck) and the general athmosphere of the game somehow feels different to the other games (I guess it has a "darker" vibe somehow). Goblet of Fire felt boring to me as well and never finished it. Order of phoenix was average and it had some very frustrating parts like finding the statues. Half blood prince was a bit better but I remember it being incredibly short. Never played the deathly hallows, and don't think I missed out on anything judging by how it looks :D. But in the end those ps1 and pc games are the only ones I've bothered to revisit even as an adult.
In the older games they focused on making them FUN, but they also added little details from the book, which is really fun, in the movies Cho Chang is never mentioned ever until Goblet of Fire. But her name is already dropped in the Chamber of Secrets game! Gotta love those small things. I also have to point out that the reason they "made odd choices" and "removed" things that Philosophers stone next gen had, is because it was released after Chamber of Secrets, so it actually improved on it
Plus the fact that Peeves exists at all in the games haha - i was a huge HP fan growing up; read every book countless times, watched the movies fairly often (and played the first two games, none past that) - but it never occurred to me until i saw someone mention it years later that Peeves is never in the movies at all and, from memory, is never even mentioned? I dunno haha, i found that interesting after realising 😅 though there's about a million other important things omitted from the movies so it's pretty standard i suppose haha
@@WilbertBeltman yeah I never played the games outside of the GBC, GBA, and DS systems so I never saw that why I asked cause I don't think the color ever mentions
I’d recommend trying the Lego Harry Potter games while not as mechanically deep as the first 3 games it has a fully explorable Hogwarts castle and it’s has platforming and puzzle solving
Played the second Lego HP game with a friend, it was the least amount of fun I had that day. We later played a Jojo fighting game and Rayman, which was actually fun.
The PC versions of sorcerer's stone and chamber of secrets are way better than the consoles ones imo, or is it just my memories ? I don't know, don't think so x) I have great memories of these games ! I loved them as a kid
Definitely man, they’re designed a little more like the Iga Castlevania games in a way, where after you learned a new spell you could go back and find secrets you knew needed something but didn’t have the means to get.
Ya i played the first 3 games like 1 year ago and sorcerers stone and chamber of secrets are still very fun games. Maybe i need to play them in a few weeks again
@@Akechifan To me the stealth sections annoyed me rather than scare me, and you're right the broom was incredible, ha I remembering trying to fly as high as I could to see how far I can go into the sky.
I remember playing the Prisoner of Azkaban on my PS2 when I was a kid. The game was very charming and unique to me. Exploring the castle for the secret cards and pages always felt great. And the soundtrack by Jeremy Soule really set a great tone. I will always appreciate it.
I had the GameCube version of Prisoner of Azkaban, it’s still one of my favourite games ever. I really loved how each of the trio had their own spells and special abilities, and thus their own little challenges (like Ron and the stink pellet bucket things on the walls), and how completing wizard card sets gave actual bonuses like boosted health. If there’s one game I would love to see remastered or remade it would be that one, or Quidditch World Cup.
The only thing I remember about the Order of the Phoenix game is the final fight where you get to play as Dumbledore in his duel against Voldemort. Except you're still using the same spells that you've been using all through the game except with extra light flashes and you can basically just stun lock Voldemort with stupefy so it's like 3 minutes of making the same gesture while Voldemort ragdolls across the floor
I remember how these games never really stuck to a genre. We had platformers, action adventure, a couple of RPGs and even what can only be described as a third person shooter/Gears Of War clone
Yeah the last two were textbook cover shooters and as a kid lowkey they were my favourite, revisiting them last year they don’t live up to my memory but are still really cool lowkey😂
@Jason Green wands being like guns is just ridiculous to me and takes away the meaning of the individual spells but at the same time its weirdly cool to have a "magic gun"
Interestingly enough, the next gen verdin of the chamber of secrets was developed before the philosopher’s stone version. I think the fan feedback forced them to make those chances and makes Hogwarts overall more of an open world type.
Wasn't the PS2 version of Chamber of Secrets more similar to Philosophers Stone? I am pretty sure only the gamecube version had that weird jump from location to location.
@@HermanFalckHow yes that’s right. I played the ps2 version and it was entirely open ended. I was confused when he mentioned the jumping from zone to zone because that isn’t in the ps2 version.
The PC version of Sorcerer's Stone has been a staple of my collection since I was a kid. Absolutely love that version of the game and replay it every so often. Prisoner of Azkaban was another that I thoroughly enjoyed as a kid and really need to replay at some point. Didn't play anything past that though.
6th gen CoS is a weird case. The PS2 has several differences from the GC & Xbox versions. For one thing, on PS2 you can fully explore Hogwarts, camera angles are a lot better during the sneak sections, you can actually parry the prefects' spells with Expeliarmus, and there is more dialogue. The GC/Xbox ports feel stripped down in comparison, but have better performance.
Yeah I played the ps2 version when I was kid and I was confused when he talked about not being able to fully explore. Didn’t know the xbox/GC versions were that different. They do look better visually, but idk if that’s worth the compromises they made.
The ps2 version is technically a port of the gamecube version handled by different devs, and I guess they managed to remove the dumb limitation of not being able to walk around everywhere.
@@Laenthor Apparently the PS2 version was being made first and the studio that made the gamecube version weren't allowed access to the code, only the art assets, so they had to recreate the whole game from scratch
I think if you jump into the order of the Phoenix with the mindset of it being more of a Hogwarts simulator than an action game you can get a lot more out of it. The fact that you could get from one end of the castle to the other with absolutely zero load times was mind-blowing back in the day, especially for Harry Potter game standards. It was basically a Harry Potter metroidvania and going for that 100% by exploring every nook and cranny of the map felt super satisfying as a Harry Potter nerd in my teens. Perhaps I'm looking at it through rose tinted glasses as I haven't touched the game since it came out. I'll definitely go back to it at some point just for the sake of confirming/rejecting what you said in this review. I definitely agree on the combat being bare bones and uninteresting but I remember loving the moment to moment exploration of the castle.
how come you didn’t cover the pc version of the first two games. It woulda been interesting to have heard your opinion on it. Like they literally had 3 versions for 1 game - the ps 1, ps 2, pc.
From what I've seen Hogwarts Legacy seems to be bringing back the QTE sequences everytime you first acquire a spell there and I believe that's an intentional homage to these early HP games which is pretty neat
The Goblet of Fire game legitimately made me wanna tear my hair out and I ended up just dropping it entirely. It was so *repetitive* and I remember the Tri-Wizard levels being insane difficulty spikes that were a practice in trial and error. And , obviously, the game only having 8 levels is the reason they did it. They needed to drip feed you that sh!t to make sure you didn't realise that, if you removed all the backtracking and replays you have to do, the game is like 4 hours long MAX
Half blood prince was the shit back in the day for me oml, a nice cure for the cancer that was Goblet Of Fire...but man, 3D person shooter Harry Pooter, i'm just speechless bruh
My favorite part about the Harry Potter games is that you pretty much had different games on every single console. Ps1 PC and GBA were all VASTLY different games imo
@katielogue5107 I think I only played sorcerers stone for the GBA! That one must've been different than all the other ones. I remember SS and CoS actually being pretty similar to adventure games just in 2d instead of 3d. I think the PC games really got it right though for sure.
Also PS2/Xbox/GameCube and GBC (Gameboy Color). The first two games had FIVE completely different versions, with some differences among the PS2/Xbox/GameCube (ex: the PS2 version of the second game had much more exploration outside the castle) and the third game had three different versions (no GBC or PS1 version).
@Katie Logue GBA was only turn-based RPG for the third game. The first two games were turn-based RPGs for the Gameboy COLOR, but not Gameboy ADVANCE. The GBA versions of the first two games were action-adventure.
Man i have really loved watching your videos since i found your channel. You feel like good older youtube, but with a decent mic and better writing. You have a memorable intro, you don't interrupt your interesting opinions with non-stop jokes but arent just completely dry. Isk why im writing this but thabks for the free good videos mayne.
Nobody talking about the Gameboy colour Philosopher's stone turn based RPG? That game slapped and was more of an adaptation of the books than the films.
@@inktendo Yes! The Griptonite HP games. Loved those, especially the GBC ones. They tried to make it more "movie focused" with the GBA Azkaban game, whereas the GBC ones adapted the books
@@CyborgCharlotte PC versions is different, the third version of first two games. Prisoner of Azkaban also had 2 different versions - PS2\Gamecube one and PC one.
The problem with your opening take is that Rowling stated prior that she sees ongoing support of any HP project to be silent support of her views, so regardless of the money, it IS encouraging her to continue.
The reason why you enjoyed the PS2 version of Philosopher's Stone more than Chamber of Secrets is likely because CoS was actually produced first. The next gen version of Philosopher's Stone actually came out the following year, reusing and building atop the CoS engine.
@@yrooxrksvi7142 Such as: in CoS, Harry doesn't say the flavor of every single bean he collects, the wizard cards are hidden in many different random places and not the same unsurprising golden chests, there's 4 rounds of quidditch play instead of 1, there's Diagon Alley and wizard dueling, you can actually lose the House Cup... So yeah, better in many ways.
I found this video through an ad and I'm so glad I did. Fantastic job on this! Feels like I don't hear these games mentioned much anymore but although they may not be the greatest they mean a lot to many of us who played them growing up. You did a great job of capturing that idea/feeling.
i remember renting a harry potter game from blockbuster as a kid and really liking it, been struggling to figure out which one it was. Only other game i know is the Wii games watching my sister play them.
I actually remember the PS1 versions of Sorcerer’s (or for everyone outside of the United States. Philosopher’s) Stone via a trailer, and especially Chamber of Secrets thanks to a family member in Mexico having a PS1 and a copy of the game when I was vacationing in Mexico
1:53 to 8:31 for me that was the best HP games beside the Chamber of Secrets PC version. This game was made for kids (remember that!) and it just gave you the fullest immersion of being in Hogwarts or at least the harry potter universe. Back in that time, you didn't think what was right or wrong with this game, you just played it because there was no other options and it was drilling! It was a masterpiece for its time and for the age range. Plus I played with danish language so the the voice acting wasn't so bad as the english, as far as I can remember :D
I consider Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets for GBC and Prisoner of Azkaban for the GBA to be the most interesting Harry Potter games. The reason is because they were unique, they were turn-based RPG's that had a Final Fantasy vibe. The latter for the GBA even had a pseudo-3D system for the fights, it was actually kind of cool. Even had some elements from the books that weren't in the movies, like Peeves.
Everybody hates Quidditch so much that they just straight up scraped it for Legacy . I can’t imagine anyone liking Quidditch enough to buy a HP game just around that .
@@WheresMyInhaler Well most people taking about wanting DLC are asking for it. So I would say you seem to be in the minority in not liking it. I had a blast with the game and hope to see it included in the future. I mean they even have a "Professional" Quidditch in RL with people being willing to run around the Field with Brooms between their legs. If thats "everybody" hating it then it would be crazy to see what they would do if they liked it.
@@nobalkain624I think the main problem people had with Quidditch in the video games is that they never found a way to make it that engaging which is why they probably didn’t waste their time doing it for Hogwarts legacy. They could’ve spent 100s of hours making quidditch and people would still complain about it.
@loganbigmo Sadly my Computer is not good enough to run the new Game, but I really want to. It looks like a lot of fun, and exploring around the School would be a blast.
iirc, the sorcerer's / philosopher's stone on ps2 / gc / xbox was released after the chamber of secrets on said consoles, as it was somewhat a yearly release series at the time, so technically, the 1st movie's game is an improvement over the 2nd's game. Iirc, it was 3 reasons: the 3rd movie was a troubled production, & they wanted ALL the movies to have "recent" console versions, & they wanted to have a 2nd chance to fix the problems people had for that game & game engine before they got to prisoners of Azkaban, so a year that had no movie, & they could use assets made for chamber of secrets to make a game based on the 1st story to quicken the development a bit, since they are very similar vibe wise in both movie & book form, so that's what they did to fill the "a game per year" check.
I only ever played two of these in my life. The Chamber of Secrets game featured here, which I'm always surprised gets the praise it does. I hated it as a kid and never really got past the Weasley house. Where as I adored and played the hell out of the gameboy version of Prisoner of Azkaban. Hell the Dementors in that game had one of the scariest themes I'd ever heard at the time and I still see that theme mentioned in disturbing game music lists. Always was validating to see. Would've liked to see you cover the gameboy version of Azkaban, but oh well. EA did make the most Harry Potter games, and the most well known to boot. So it's only fair I suppose.
I can level with you that I had a love/hate relationship with Chamber of Secrets (GameCube version) as a young lad because of the prefect stealth sections. I sucked at them, I had no measure of patience to get through them, and I couldn’t tolerate losing 20 points for getting caught. When I returned to the game in high school, I found out that abusing Luminous Balloons and having Stink Pellets ready made them (mostly) stress free. The GameCube version is pretty good as far as licensed games are concerned, but it feels watered down compared to the PS2 version. You couldn’t even explore the Grounds on foot properly on GCN!
never played a single one of these in my life, but i wish i did/could. esp the first three and 5 and 6. great video though! loved hearing your analysis of each installment
Man, I remember at my Primary School's "Before & After School Care" (in case it isn't a thing where you are, basically a place for us to stay and hang out/play/do homework, who's parents work 9-5 etc. in the City or whatever can go after School ended at 3:20pm) one of the women who ran it, that I was basically a son to, had various Consoles and Games she'd bring in for us to play (mainly PS1/PS2, we also had a PC available and the other woman who ran the thing brought in her SNES occasionally) and Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone on PS1 was one of them. I eventually was able to bring it home to play through the game proper, basically once it wasn't a common game for all of us to play on the daily, and I remember loving it but being so annoyed that about half way through that the Disc was scratched or something and effectively ceased to work at that point, never did get to finish it 😞 cool to hear that the 2nd HP on PS1 is basically just more of the same... Maybe I should make those the next 2 PS1 games to add to my Collection 🤔
13:27 There's a reason for that. Ps2 Chamber of secrets was made before Ps2 Philosophers stone. So Philosophers stone is more like a sequel for Chamber of secrets in the Ps2.
Yeah, I loved the potion brewing mini-game in Half-Blood Prince, so much so that I'd come back to the game after beating it just for that, and I seriously hope that, if nothing else, Hogwarts Legacy can deliver the goods with its own take on potion brewing.
I thought you were going to talk about the best harry potter game ever, the PC version of chamber of secrets, well, all the PC versions in fact Still, it is an excellent video
Here's how I thought of the games. Considering PC versions only 1: Good start. 2: Incredible! Most nostalgic for me. 3: Also fantastic! I like that at the end you can visit the bean bonus room with no time limit. 4: What happened here? You just run through obstacle courses doing the same things repetedly. It doesn't feel as much like a Harry Potter experience. 5: Back on track. Although it doesn't really add to the experience from what you'd see in the movie. If you want to watch the plot unfold, just watch that. 6: Same as 5. 7: I'm watching a walkthrough of it now. So far I like how it makes you feel like you're really on the mission. Though I wish there was a points system to give incentive to play again, or at least Bertie Bott's beans. 8: Haven't looked into yet.
I noticed how when you mentioned crappy minigames in the philosopher's stone, you showed the money collecting roller coaster one in the bank (2:54). I take that personally. That's pretty much the only reason I go back and play that game other than the vibes and atmosphere. Great video!
The PC versions of PS and COS are pretty good too. A lot of people say they're better than the PS1 versions. I actually really like the GBA/DS versions of GOF more than the console/PC versions. They actually take a better route on the dungeon crawler puzzle route and even have a bit of progression with giving you spells that make any repeat of bosses and whatnot easier. Yeah, the forest level is a bit of a slog, but once you get the water spell near the end, any returns for stuff will be faster since that spell oneshots the many salamander bosses in the area.
Unless I'm very much mistaken, you're the same person who created TGX Game Reviews. Really glad you're up and running again, I enjoyed your old content a lot. Looking forward to more!
Yeah it is him, he finally brought it up on the old channels community page. Really nice to see he is back, and this video in particular feels just like one of those older game reviews which is NOT a bad thing Mr Bacon.
At part where you mentioned that this isn't something designed for real people the best example of that for me is the original prince of Persia by Ubisoft.
Sorcerer's Stone (Ps1 and 2) and Chamber of Secrets (Ps2 and PC) were my absolute favorite HP games growing up. I never really got into Prisoner of Azkaban, though I'm sure it was fine, but it didn't keep me engaged the way the first two did. And Goblet of Fire bored me so quick that I don't think I ever made it past the first level. Didn't even play any ones after that. But I played the first two games all the freaking time. They were so charming and whimsical, something that both the later games AND their movies lacked. And yeah, obviously they had problems, but in an era where licensed games were generally just taken for granted to be bad most of the time, those ones did stand out.
The Pc version of the ps1 games were literal gold to me. alot more for me to find via exploring and the spell minigames had you trace the spell symbols while being accurate and within a time limit rather than qte button presses.
playing the old playstation game after school with a friend and getting chased by the troll if you failed the stealth sequence... precious horrifying memories
@@tartaruganinjas oh I see, been playing through this awesome game on my aya Neo handheld pc not quite at the stage of unlocking the hippogriff yet but it looks so cool being able to fly anywhere on it in the massive open world!
41:07 I mean, I always love it when a movie/TV/game series entry tries something different and risks being bad rather than playing it safe and in that regard I loved Goblet of Fire.
Chamber of Secrets (Nintendo GameCube) was hands-down my favourite of the Harry Potter Games, closely followed by Prisoner of Azkaban. One of the first games (period) I ever played and holds such sentimental value for me. Will always hold a special place in my heart.
Sadly you didn't touch on PC versions of the first three games which are entirely different. Chamber of Secrets PC is probably the best HP game out there. But it's hard making those PC games run on modern PCs these days.
I had the pc versions of chamber and azkaban. They were really fun for the time. Then goblet came out and really confused me on how horrible it was, and it just continued going downhill from there
Back in a day I beat Sorcerer's Stone at least 3 times and I was shocked when I play Chamber of Secrets on PC. Totally different game! Still, I preferred PS1 style better. Still lookin for PS2 Chamber of Secrets and Sorcerer's Stone in good price in Poland. One of few PS2 games released with Polish translation. It was something huge years ago.
@@PanHellmuncikPL That's pretty cool. I own all of the original games since childhood, but I emulate them at this point because I don't trust either of my PS2s lol

I will also say with Chamber the ps2 version has free roaming same with the broom which is why it often people favorite and that one was done by EA UK and the others were done by i think Eurocom which made theirs first and EA Uk ported it to ps2 while changing things. Also the handheld games are worth a check same with the pc games as all of them were different as PS1 games were more action platformers while the PC were more adventure platformers. The 6th gen games were zelda like. The GBA games changed every time with the first one being a puzzler, the second one was an isometric game with all kinds of puzzles and dungeons, the third game was an RPG made by the GBC devs, the 4th and 5th games were like their big brother console games (which makes order look like nightmare fuel). The two GBC games were RPGs (and they and the third GBA game are very good as there are faithful while being their own thing) also fun fact chamber of secrets is the last game for the GBC here in the west.
9:35 You definitely don't win the House Cup either way. I tested that as a kid. Although, if I remember correctly, the game recognizes that you lost, but then the narrated end-slides at the end of the game assumes you won. 😂
Considering the fact that Filch knows how to just appear out of nowhere, and that Mrs. Norris can just summon him, I'm gonna assume that Filch can reach the upper areas by either cheat codes or Mrs. Norris is pulling some levers to open up alternate paths for him.
Actually, what I loved about Order of the Phoenix back then was that it included a lot of the dialogues from the books that were cut from the film and so I always was like: „Yeah! They put that in!“
As someone who grew up with the PC versions, I kinda wish they got a mention here, graphically they're somewhere between the PS1 and 6th gen games, with atmosphere on par with the PS1 games, but with higher quality textures and models. The 2nd game is by far the best, and has an interesting mechanic where missable cards are accounted for by having students trade them for beans and you get a bonus level at the end of the game for 100%. The spell challenges also track your best times which is fun.
I'd forgotten about that boycott that failed horribly. I think it had a lot to do with boycotters being challenged to quote exactly what Rowling said then attempting to justify why it was so evil.
Philosopher's Stone is the UK/Europe version, Sorcerer's Stone is the US version. This goes for the books and films too. Every other book had the same title worldwide.
With how long and elaborate games are getting, I'm surprised they haven't put together a compilation game that follows Harry's whole story through all seven years.
32:21 "shining laser pointers at each other" now imagine the actors on set dramatically pointing a resin stick at each other before all the CGI is added in and somehow it still has more weight to it than in that game
You are wrong about one kinda big thing... The ps2/gc/Xbox version of the philosophers stone came out AFTER The Chamber of secrets. So technically the first game chronologically takes after the second on the consoles.

I’d recommend trying the Lego Harry Potter games while not as mechanically deep as the first 3 games it has a fully explorable Hogwarts castle and it’s has platforming and puzzle solving
and on top of that you can play with your friends
Not to mention that the Lego games are always hilarious and great fun to play casually
screw that,lego is for toddlers.
The Lego Harry Potter games are FANTASTIC. If you haven't played them, you're missing out!
Yeah, they were fun. I loved a glitch in Chamber of Secrets that made the beans giant level-eating monstrosities.
@@bladeworksmaster Iga Castlevania. Now I’m interested.
I prefer the PC version of CoS, but the console version of Sorcerer's Stone IMO is better if nostalgia is ignored.
Chamber of Secrets on the ps2 was straight up one of my favorite games as a child. That Jeremy Soule soundtrack is so good.
It was the first Harry Potter game I played, second was prisoner of Azkaban, I couldn't complete goblet of Fire now that wear I stopped.
@@AnonymousEnigma19 Me too, i got so much nostalgia for the first 3 games.
The stealth sections scared me as a kid 😅 being able to fly around Hogwarts was incredible to
@@Akechifan To me the stealth sections annoyed me rather than scare me, and you're right the broom was incredible, ha I remembering trying to fly as high as I could to see how far I can go into the sky.
Never knew I could be terrified of PREFECTS until I played it
I remember playing the Prisoner of Azkaban on my PS2 when I was a kid.
I remember also just loving the part where you have to mess with umbridge
I remember how these games never really stuck to a genre. We had platformers, action adventure, a couple of RPGs and even what can only be described as a third person shooter/Gears Of War clone
Yeah the last two were textbook cover shooters and as a kid lowkey they were my favourite, revisiting them last year they don’t live up to my memory but are still really cool lowkey😂
@Jason Green wands being like guns is just ridiculous to me and takes away the meaning of the individual spells but at the same time its weirdly cool to have a "magic gun"
Don't forget the sports one :D
@@GrosvnerMcaffrey a wand with a switch sounds awesome

Interestingly enough, the next gen verdin of the chamber of secrets was developed before the philosopher’s stone version. I think the fan feedback forced them to make those chances and makes Hogwarts overall more of an open world type.
Wasn't the PS2 version of Chamber of Secrets more similar to Philosophers Stone? I am pretty sure only the gamecube version had that weird jump from location to location.
@@HermanFalckHow hmm not sure only played the ps1 and ps2 versions personally.
@@HermanFalckHow yes that’s right. I played the ps2 version and it was entirely open ended. I was confused when he mentioned the jumping from zone to zone because that isn’t in the ps2 version.
I used to play the pc version of Harry Potter 1, 2 and 3 a couple of years ago. They were pretty good back then.
Chamber of secrets on the PS2 let you land your broom literally anywhere and you could run around the whole grounds without being teleported
Yeah, I'm not sure why you couldn't explore the whole grounds on Xbox or GameCube.
@@lazyspongieThat explains why the PS2 version is so different from the Gamecube/Xbox versions
I still remember playing Phoenix on the Wii back in the day and it was mind-blowing. It was Hogwarts Legacy before Hogwarts Legacy
I remember liking the gobstone and cards minigames.
how come you didn’t cover the pc version of the first two games. It woulda been interesting to have heard your opinion on it. Like they literally had 3 versions for 1 game - the ps 1, ps 2, pc.
I had PC!!
From what I've seen Hogwarts Legacy seems to be bringing back the QTE sequences everytime you first acquire a spell there and I believe that's an intentional homage to these early HP games which is pretty neat
There's even a perticular spell that is an hommage to these old games in it!
@@terla2971 Flipendo is one of them. That spell came from the first few P/SS games

@Sorthen Daniel I keep getting lost in the castle but I don't even mind because it's just fun to explore it
The Goblet of Fire game legitimately made me wanna tear my hair out and I ended up just dropping it entirely.
I'm pretty sure GoF had a lot of material to expand the game adaptation. The GBA version was the only game that cared about the Yule Ball part, lmao
Using the Sonic plushie as a face for a photo made me laugh way harder than it needed to
Half blood prince was the shit back in the day for me oml, a nice cure for the cancer that was Goblet Of Fire...but man, 3D person shooter Harry Pooter, i'm just speechless bruh

The reason why you enjoyed the PS2 version of Philosopher's Stone more than Chamber of Secrets is likely because CoS was actually produced first. The next gen version of Philosopher's Stone actually came out the following year, reusing and building atop the CoS engine.

I wasn't expecting to be reminded of Linkara today.
I didn’t play the first two but I did play prisoner of Azkaban on GBA and it was a lot of fun. I’m thinking of downloading and playing it again
23:32 I played the Wii version of this and honestly the motion controls make the spell-casting fun, since you actually move the remote
The only HP Game I ever played was the Quidditch World Cup. I really enjoyed it and have been surprised they never made another.

@@nobalkain624I think the main problem people had with Quidditch in the video games is that they never found a way to make it that engaging which is why they probably didn’t waste their time doing it for Hogwarts legacy. Well, now they've made another. Have you played it?
@loganbigmo Sadly my Computer is not good enough to run the new Game, but I really want to. It looks like a lot of fun, and exploring around the School would be a blast.
Damn i remember really loving the GameCube version of chamber of secrets
iirc, the sorcerer's / philosopher's stone on ps2 / gc / xbox was released after the chamber of secrets on said consoles, as it was somewhat a yearly release series at the time, so technically, the 1st movie's game is an improvement over the 2nd's game.
Yo that cursed sonic shit was hilarious. Flying voldemort was quite the surprise lmao.
never played a single one of these in my life, but i wish i did/could. esp the first three and 5 and 6. great video though! loved hearing your analysis of each installment
Honestly, I stopped playing after Prisoner of Azkaban, which seems to have been a good choice.
I love how you truly understand/feel the energy of these games, not too many people play these like us in this way
I like that you share those little moments that stuck with you.
13:27 There's a reason for that.
Ps2 Chamber of secrets was made before Ps2 Philosophers stone.
So Philosophers stone is more like a sequel for Chamber of secrets in the Ps2.
Philosopher's Stone on PS1 was my childhood.
Yeah, I loved the potion brewing mini-game in Half-Blood Prince, so much so that I'd come back to the game after beating it just for that, and I seriously hope that, if nothing else, Hogwarts Legacy can deliver the goods with its own take on potion brewing.

Here's how I thought of the games. Considering PC versions only
1: Good start.
Minute 6:18
Omg i thought i was the only one.
I never forget that place and the sunset with it. 🥺
Yeah the next gen version of chamber of secrets was actually developed before the next gen version of philosophers stone

Why would people want to boycott the games ?
I had the pc versions of chamber and azkaban. They were really fun for the time. Then goblet came out and really confused me on how horrible it was, and it just continued going downhill from there

The Harry Potter RPGs on the GBC and GBA are the best HP games I have ever played. It's dumbfounding how good they are.

If you're gonna wait for it to be 10 bucks you might as well just pirate it cause it will never be 10 bucks, WB is too greedy
I would honestly pay for an extended/worked-out standalone game of the potion minigame from the 6th game. They were so fun.
Cool video! I would love your takes on the pc versions too!
Judging old kid games from a modern vision just doesn’t sit well with me. I remember when these came out and as a kid it was fantastic and fun.

You are wrong about one kinda big thing... The ps2/gc/Xbox version of the philosophers stone came out AFTER The Chamber of secrets. So technically the first game chronologically takes after the second on the consoles.

Despite the quality of different entries in the series, i am the only one who is craving a collection or collections of these games like the Mega Man Legacy Collections? Collection 1 is 1-4, Collection 2 is 5-8, Collection 3 is Quidditch World Cup, Kinect, Book Of Potions, and Book Of Spells with normal Controller Support similar to Pixar Rush and Disneyland Adventures' Re-Releases. other collection ideas could be The Handheld Versions or they could add the PS1 Versions of 1 and 2 to the first collection. what do you all think?
Well if it helps the game takes place 100 years before the movies, and is it's own independant story.
I'm tired of this idea that boycotting media only hurts the little guys. They aren't getting paid royalties, they're either salaried or on an hourly contract. They've already been paid for working on this game
It's more the idea that if the game does poorly those people might not get the chance to work on another game
17:56 That's hilarious, because I spent like 40 minutes at that exact part for the _exact_ same reason when I tried playing it last year
