I can't even explain the feeling I get when I hear the music, Bob Barkers voice and the announcers voice. This was always on at my house growing up. I had an amazing childhood. I would give anything to go back and do it again.

My grandfather passed away about 15 years ago. When cleaning out the house I found a receipt for $400 for a VCR and another $300 on a repair for it. He never watched TV. He spent all that money so he could record shows like Fraggle Rock for when I visited as a boy. He was poor. I couldn't believe he spent that kind of money for a VCR. I bought one for college in 2001.... brand new for $40.

I know someone who was on the Price is Right. They look for people before the show starts. There is no picking a name out randomly. He got on stage by picking the right price for the watch. He did not win any prizes on stage. If you are enthusiastic and say you are so excited to be on the show and all the wonderful things they want to hear. They will choose you. They want high energy. It's all a process not random.

My brother-in-law was on this show. His mother’s lifetime dream was to be on TPIR. She’d go to L.A. every year to try to get picked. My sister and BIL went with her one year to keep her company in line. They came for two days. The first day they were interviewed and weren’t picked. That night we figured out the BIL would be the one most likely picked. So we created this whole persona for him that we felt would make him stand out. And since we knew the questions they’d ask, we coached him on his answers and how to react in a way that we felt would get him picked. And it worked. He got picked. The major flaw in our plan was that he was unfamiliar with the show so had no idea how to play strategically. To the point that he didn’t even know you could turn around and ask your family for help. He never made it off of contestants row. And he was one of the first four picked. Bob Barker was openly mocking him by the end of the game.

We all need to learn. That's what makes society grow. I use the edict for myself that blossomed in me in 1963, seeing the news of Dr. M. L. King marching with freedoms for all peoples. Was always one of my favorite pricing games. It stinks all the videos of the "original" rules of the game (where under the letters "Punchboard" hid cards that said one, ten, hundreds, thousands, and the punch board had 1, 2, 5 and 10, and you picked one from the punchboard letters, and punched a hole and then Bob would reveal the prize, and if you turned it down, you picked another letter and punched another hole, etc.) The current rules are far better, but it's a hoot to see the original rules.

Can you imagine if he had an earpiece in, and the showrunners were like "She won that too fast, you gotta give us enough air time until the break. Go through the entire thing to show how it would've happened."

I remember back in the 70's a contestant was a little old black lady. She happened to choose the slot with nothing inside 😂 Bob didn't know what to do. After the commercial break the producers decided to award her the top prize. 😅

Bob always gives a winner away. I'm surprised Mark Goodson didn't call him out for diminishing the audience and winners' reactions.

I have a VCR that I paid, new 3 years ago, for $88.00...then I got a smart TV & learnt I could mirror my ph onto its 55" screen...no cable bill, I'm disabled & run my ph nearly 24/7/365, literally off half an hour a couple of days a week...who knew ?😊

In the early 80s that was a crap ton of money. At least for my parents anyway. 100$ would get you an entire trunk load of groceries and that was the 83 Chrysler Newport that has some serious trunkage ! Unlike the 95$ I spent on 2 paper bag fulls today.
