  • I go through the good the bad and the ugly of rendering bees wax. Some stuff works some...not so much.

wow gutsy move using the kitchen stove....lol. I use an old turkey fryer kit for large amounts of wax and an old crock pot for small amounts

I do something similar, I purchased one of those large stainless pots, boil/rake, rinse/repeat. I've been considering REALLY going overboard with cleaning the wax and building a solar wax melter, simple and inexpensive to make and the resulting wax is really nice... Now all I have to do is muster the motivation to actually build it hehehe

nice result, I like to put all my wax to be rendered in an old pillow case, melt it down in boiling water, pull the pillow case out and squeeze the last of the wax out. It would eliminate having to pour your slop into a bucket and making a mess..just my two cents!

That is brilliant. Consider that idea stolen for next time!

    That's what she said... lmao.
Awesome video, I have yet to render wax. I just give it away to friends who make stuff with it.

I tried to say that quietly. Never know who you’ll offend!

i use a heavier strainer from a restaurant supply store and scoop out the bulk of the cocoons from the pot before pouring

Do you clean and reuse the strainer?

i don't bother to clean it... it will just get gunked up the next time i use it. when i have the pot of hot water, wax and debris i have a pile of newspaper spread out and use the strainer to scoop and dump onto the newspaper until all the large debris is out. then i filter through cheesecloth into a bucket. I think this is the way the skinny bee man does his as well (Lil bits honeybees, is the channel i think)
