    Hello, I am a beekeeper in a continental area, at an altitude of 500 to 1300 meters above sea level, with strong winters and a very changeable spring. I am a beekeeper exclusively from Carniolan. I keep a bee on 5 to 8 frames of brood throughout the year and have honey to extract (as seen in my video). Beekeepers must understand that they are beekeeping with a bee that is suitable for their climate. When we imported the Italian bee, problems began with the death of bee colonies, regardless of the fact that the Italian bees are strong but eat all the food. The Italian bee is excellent for warmer areas and longer honeying periods. Carniolan and other bees are aggressive if something is wrong in the hive .

      I dont like italians, they have poor pest resistance and awful mite tolerance, they dont produce that much honey, literally every bee but 1 out produces them, they eat way too much in the winter and swarm and rob other colonies they just have no positive traits at all it blows my mind that they are the most used when they are objectively the worst bees to use. Russians are just better in every single way.

      It's Florida, so always humid. Been getting our afternoon thunderstorms almost daily. Hasn't affected the bees too much though.

    When you want to grow a colony use a top feeder 4 Gals.I do Nucs a lot .This year I sold over 2000.We start them with 3 full frames of cap broad ,with nurses on top of frames.In just 6 weeks ,I do feed them 8 Gals . of 1 to 1 sugar syrup and all 10 frames are build and the colony is ready ,to get the a super on top.

      Thanks. We actually use top feeders now. Both colonies were small when this video was done. But I learned the hard way this past year when all my nucs got robbed out and from my bigger colonies. Thanks for the advice.

      Thanks, Conrad Homestead! The more I do bee keeping, the more I see it being like Chess. You have your Queen, your workers, drones. And then you loose a queen, and have to split hives, and make new hives, hoping they will still be in the game through the winter to do it again in the spring. Lol

    Hi- this is very interesting! I enjoy learning about bees- they have an intricate system of living and then they create honey, which is so wonderful! There is definitely a lot that goes in to them. Thanks so much for sharing 💕

    I’m sure you guys know all this as experienced keepers, but in case there are new beeks watching, the “chaining” name is festooning. You might want to be alert for robbing using boardman feeders. The Italian race of bees are particularly bad about robbing especially if a nearby colony is smaller or weaker.

      Thank you and yes, we did learn the hard way on the feeders. I no longer use front entrance feeders. Some things you learn the hard way on.

      I have italians within 2 miles of where I live that are not my bees, my russians will kick them out fast lol. Russians dont rob and they are excellent at telling other bees to pound sand.

      I didn't know that either, it is said that Russians are a little more aggressive than Italians. Russians are also supposed to be less susceptible to mites. So far their production has been great and I can't imagine the honey would taste any different.

      There is a big difference in taste of honey just by the local flowers. I have hives in Louisiana and Alaska. The Louisiana hives are at two places about 20 miles apart. The bees at my house in the Atchafalaya Basin produce a dark honey with a woodsy taste. The bees at my daughter's house produce a very light sweeter honey. I have not been able to harvest anything from the Alaskan hives yet because they struggle with the short summers and long winters.

      Russians tend to gather far more than italians, We have a lot of plants here that can produce flows of nearly pure varietal honey that can be quite unique. @@bigben567s4

    I would recommend you guys put some water lily or aquatic plants in those water tubs. The bees might use it has a water source and because the surface area is too open you might end up with a lot of drown bees.

      The thought had definitely crossed my mind to give the Italians some more brood. But I really wanted to see the difference in how the Italians act VS how the Russians act (I.E. Aggressiveness) As of now, the Italian hive is now all Italian bees, if I add Russian brood, I'll have to start the "experiment" over. I'm not really in a hurry as I don't have to contend with too much cold weather in the winter where I am. But as of my last check, the Italians are about to graduate to an eight frame box. They are coming along nicely. Thank you for the tip!

      Also, the Russians do have two Brood boxes now, And they are filling out all but one of the new frames.

    Nice comparison on hives. It is hard to call bees any specific type anymore. You never know what the queens mate with. I just call my bees mutts.

  • @lrn_news9171
    @lrn_news9171 Рік тому

    I've heard that once they mix with other sub-species they lose some of the desired characteristics. In fact, they claim that once they hybridized they exhibit poor characteristics of both species such as producing less honey, becoming more aggressive and more prone to disease

    Did Anastasia make it through the winter?

    • @seedsandarrowsfrontier9224
      @seedsandarrowsfrontier9224  3 роки тому +1

      Ted, Yes and no... I've been trying to get with my brother to do an update. The contrast between the two are really neat. They both made it through and my brother was not able to find the queens in time to make splits, and both hives swarmed. My brother caught one swarm but had it in a plastic tote which got too hot and cooked the bees. But we had swarm cells on the Italian hive hatch and return so now both hives are Italian.

      They can be bred for calm nature, the queen I have is a pure russian from a breeder who tends to produce offspring that are super chill and it takes a lot for my russians to get going. And they produce a good 20% more honey than Italians. The big bonus is since we nearly have a year round bee season we dont really have a winter and we have a flow in december they are mite resistant so I dont have to do as much if any mite treatments

    The plural of larva is larvae, which is pronounced larv-ee, not “larv-uh”, which would be the singular (larva). You could even say larvas for the plural, which would be so much better than larv-uh for the plural. You could try this correctly and keep practicing until you get it. Larv-eye would work as well for the plural. Learn to speak standard English before going public on a video.
