I'm a little dismayed at the inconsistencies in compatibility in the features in MFT lenses. Panasonic's aperture rings don't work on olympus, olympus' l-fn doesn't work on most mft cameras. Olympus' manual focus clutches do work on Panasonic, but I don't know if the clutch shown in this video will work on olympus. Worst of all, combined lens/body stabilization (dual is for panasonic and sync is for olympus) isn't cross-compatible. The MFT mount is supposed to be open.
I agree, they should definitely work together (it would benefit them both). But Panasonic kinda stabbed Oly in the back with some harsh words after they failed to join them on their full frame suicide mission. So it seems they weren’t the close buddies it seemed. :/
I actually would prefer the focal length range 18-35mm since I already have the PL 12mm, PL 15mm, PL 42.5mm and 35-100mm zoom. However, the Sigma lens is big and heavy compared to my existing lenses - and it's not 18-35mm after being adapted to MFT.
How wide would you expect to shoot? There are already quite some wide options available (although primes are lacking a bit). You may want to look at the Panasonic Leica 8-18 (16-36 when compared to FF) F2.8-4.0. Feel free to message me if you need some information.
@@wesleyverbruggen well, I'd consider 18mm to just be the start of the UWA focal length so 16 really isn't that impressive. I currently use the irix 11mm lens but I highly doubt there a m43 equivalent of something similarly wide: the widest I could find was 8mm. Besides Leica part of that lens' name causes me to doubt if I can even afford it. :)
I know this isn't a totally fair comparison (but its close) how does this make any sense when a Zeiss 24-70 F4 for Full Frame Sony is 1/3 the price and is actually physically smaller!!!!
That Panasonic S1H looks like it could be pretty amazing! Full VLOG and 14+ stops dynamic range fullframe. Only trouble is if you don't have investment in L-Mount lenses, you can't easily adapt Canon or Nikon lenses.. so it will end up being too pricey to switch over.. The GH5/GH5S has this advantage. That f1.7 10-25mm lens does look interesting though - native autofocus with the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 range and quality!
Well, with that lens, there goes my budget. Now to convince Nauticam to actually make the semi-dome port I chatted with them about for this lens so I can use it underwater
You can get a 12-35 2.8 or Oly 12-40 2.8 for $550 or so used. There's no point in bringing to market a product so closely resembling these classic zooms.
@@WildBikerBill Ja, but I like, that it can be a bit wider. 12mm always seems like barely not-enough. (That said ... it might be the same with 10mm in the end. xD)
I agree actually. A 10mm is significantly wider that 12mm. Just imagine a 20mm lens on FF vs. a 24mm lens... This is a really unique range. A smaller lighter f/2.8 option would be very cool. (And next time with IS.)
I think it's weird that a high end lens like this with clickless aperture and minimal focus breathing would be aimed at video if it isn't going to have geared teeth for focusing. Who's going to be doing an iris pull or need zero focus breathing if you can't even use it with a follow focus.
Then go full frame with a 3.4 lens, and find me a full sensor 4K downsampled 10 bit vídeo recording camera to go along with it, for a non-insane price. On MFT, you can for example get the $999 G9, which also does full sensor 4K60 8 bit.

So, it's a 20-50mm full frame equivalent?
Yes.
Well, cinematographers consider full frame to be S35, so it could also be thought of as 13-33mm. (Same difference and just as cool...)
Micro 4/3 user very happy man. How soon and How much - a must have lens for my kit.
So big, I'd like to see it on a GM1.
I wonder if a proper UWA lens is possible on MFT. Being a landscape shooter some of these small bodies are really appealing.
who's Kandy ? @3:22
...And let the Wealthy Vlogger reviews commence! #G.A.S.
I know this isn't a totally fair comparison (but its close) how does this make any sense when a Zeiss 24-70 F4 for Full Frame Sony is 1/3 the price and is actually physically smaller!!!!
Giving some love to m4/3 users!
That f1.7 10-25mm lens does look interesting though - native autofocus with the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 range and quality!
is it parfocal?
S1h looks amazing based on features. The weight didn't bother me when I tried out the S1R (ergonomics help).
Well, with that lens, there goes my budget. Now to convince Nauticam to actually make the semi-dome port I chatted with them about for this lens so I can use it underwater
3:00 he look like on a green screen (I know he is not but it look funny)
Is 6k a broadcasting format? Nobody makes 6k TV s
I wish, they'd bring a 10-25mm 2 or 2.8, which would be lighter and especially cheaper.
I really like the focal length.
If it was F2.8, there would be no point given there is already a Panasonic 12-35mm / F2.8 lens...for about $800 USD.
(That said ... it might be the same with 10mm in the end. xD)
@@uhu4677 Then go for the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm f/1.8
I agree actually. A 10mm is significantly wider that 12mm. Just imagine a 20mm lens on FF vs. a 24mm lens... This is a really unique range. A smaller lighter f/2.8 option would be very cool. (And next time with IS.)
panasonic is making the sony a7 line with their cameras.
They did that already with the GH5, GH5s and G9
is the price joking?
I think it's weird that a high end lens like this with clickless aperture and minimal focus breathing would be aimed at video if it isn't going to have geared teeth for focusing. Who's going to be doing an iris pull or need zero focus breathing if you can't even use it with a follow focus.
I’m pretty sure there will be a simple add-on for those that want to adapt it to a follow focus thingamajig, etc.
But 1.7 is like a 3.4 in Full Frame!
That is incorrect
It is optically a 10-25 1.7 lens. That is a world record. This "equivalency" makes only sense in Tony talk.
Then go full frame with a 3.4 lens, and find me a full sensor 4K downsampled 10 bit vídeo recording camera to go along with it, for a non-insane price. On MFT, you can for example get the $999 G9, which also does full sensor 4K60 8 bit.
great video folks !!!
this lens rules.
one question, is it Parfocal?
Holy Moly. I love the fact that panasonic keeps theyr mft line :)
are you really discussing the $199 for the upgrade! like if people do then they must be sick.
Very interesting announcements, my last 2 recent videos uploaded was shot on an S1
Very glad to see Panasonic finally add a MF clutch ring..
I hope Nikon or Sigma can make a 20-50/2.8.
