      High five from a fellow G9 user. I use the Tokina 14-20mm F2.0 with a speed booster for a 10-14mm F1.4 equivalent on M43. It does better than my native wide lenses under low light.

      When it was rumored that Panasonic had decided to add IS to the lens a few months ago that was my exact thought. But damn it, it didn’t have IS. The BMPCC cameras are never, ever going to have that perfect lens. (This is still amazing, but IS would’ve made it the lens for BMPCCs.)

    That 10-25mm f1.7 is sexy AF. The manual focus clutch is exactly what Panasonic needed to do.
    My Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 PRO suits me just fine for stills and video (used versions can be found for under $500!) and I can switch to a prime like my Panasonic Leica Summilux 25mm f1.4 when I need something very fast, but I could totally see someone doing really high-end video work needing this.

      A full 1 1/2 stop faster than an f/2.8 lens. It’s pretty exciting. And $500 is a heck of a deal for that lens... Hmm. 🤔 I’ve always shot video on S35, APS-C and recently on an a7III-but people are in full blown mania over “full frame” video. Now looks like a good time to get into MFT to me... haha

      @@mysticsailor9 Agreed. The 12-40 is a fantastic lens. It's f2.8 instead of f1.7, and the manual focus clutch has a fairly short throw, but it is usually enough for me. Plus, it has a much longer focal range.

      @PhilippeOrlando 5 років тому +1

      Nope, f1.7 on a MFT is not even close to let as much light enter than f 1.7 on full frame. It's closer to what a 3.5 would do on a full frame. I finally moved to Fuji and will never look back at MFT.

      @@PhilippeOrlando Wrong, the exposure will always remain the same as the image circle is also smaller. The density of light across the sensor stays the same. The depth of field simply won't be as shallow... And you probably shouldn't be shooting at razor thin depth of field settings for serious video work anyway. You're talking about total light which is totally irrelevant for exposure.

    I'm a little dismayed at the inconsistencies in compatibility in the features in MFT lenses. Panasonic's aperture rings don't work on olympus, olympus' l-fn doesn't work on most mft cameras. Olympus' manual focus clutches do work on Panasonic, but I don't know if the clutch shown in this video will work on olympus. Worst of all, combined lens/body stabilization (dual is for panasonic and sync is for olympus) isn't cross-compatible. The MFT mount is supposed to be open.

      I agree, they should definitely work together (it would benefit them both). But Panasonic kinda stabbed Oly in the back with some harsh words after they failed to join them on their full frame suicide mission. So it seems they weren’t the close buddies it seemed. :/

    I actually would prefer the focal length range 18-35mm since I already have the PL 12mm, PL 15mm, PL 42.5mm and 35-100mm zoom. However, the Sigma lens is big and heavy compared to my existing lenses - and it's not 18-35mm after being adapted to MFT.

    • @wesleyverbruggen
      @wesleyverbruggen 5 років тому

      How wide would you expect to shoot? There are already quite some wide options available (although primes are lacking a bit). You may want to look at the Panasonic Leica 8-18 (16-36 when compared to FF) F2.8-4.0. Feel free to message me if you need some information.

    • @TheJudge064
      @TheJudge064 5 років тому

      @@wesleyverbruggen well, I'd consider 18mm to just be the start of the UWA focal length so 16 really isn't that impressive. I currently use the irix 11mm lens but I highly doubt there a m43 equivalent of something similarly wide: the widest I could find was 8mm.
      Besides Leica part of that lens' name causes me to doubt if I can even afford it. :)

    That Panasonic S1H looks like it could be pretty amazing! Full VLOG and 14+ stops dynamic range fullframe. Only trouble is if you don't have investment in L-Mount lenses, you can't easily adapt Canon or Nikon lenses.. so it will end up being too pricey to switch over.. The GH5/GH5S has this advantage. That f1.7 10-25mm lens does look interesting though - native autofocus with the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 range and quality!

    I think it's weird that a high end lens like this with clickless aperture and minimal focus breathing would be aimed at video if it isn't going to have geared teeth for focusing. Who's going to be doing an iris pull or need zero focus breathing if you can't even use it with a follow focus.
