    Remember that sales tax/VAT of 5% is included in these prices whereas US prices usually exclude local taxes

      Plus there's a handling fee of 14% so roughly 20% total. You can claim the vat tax back at customs

    • @brucepreston3927
      @brucepreston3927 Рік тому +24

      @WT95 The reason the US doesn't include sales tax is because taxes change from state to state and county to county...It's a freakin mess, and It's just easier to add tax at the point of sale because of that...

      @@brucepreston3927 Excuse me but this is total bs. In Europe every country also has different tax, and imagine that, different language and sometimes even different currency. And although most of those countries are even smaller than most of the states, they don`t have problems putting prices with tax.
      I don`t understand what is the confusing part of seeing on a label what you will pay from your pocket? Even if every isle in a supermarket has different tax, it is WRITTEN with it in the label (because actually some things have different tax).

      These prices are little off. The math should be around 30.6 at this moment in time. The prices seem to be hovering around 30.60 NTD to 1 USD. So you could reduce each amount by a little more. When the amounts differ by that amount it matters. Not as much as the Won to USD but when you spend time over there you learn the difference and ways to handle it. Also as a advisory note for those who would think about traveling. Use your credit card for purchases when possible. You will be charged the exact exchange rate at that time roughly. It is far better rate then getting the local currency exchanged.

    Most of the stores in Guanghua you can usually try to haggle though. CoolPC is where I bought hardware (they have regular sales and are like a Newegg in the US).
    There are some deals for items actually made in Taiwan. If you're a custom keyboard enthusiast, there are actually some physical stores! Last time I was at inPad, they had a prototype Zoom75 on display.

    Yeah, pricing is about the same here in Hong Kong. Sad fact is retailers will price it roughly equivalent to what we'd have to pay if we bought it from Amazon/Newegg + shipping (nevermind that Amazon offers free shipping to HK).

      I have talked about this with a reseller once. They told me, since they still have old stock which they have bought on the high price, it doesn't worth for them to buy new, cheaper ones, until the old ones sell out. It would be a great loss gor them. Of course this is just one situation of many, but can be the reason.

    • @CapaNoisyCapa
      @CapaNoisyCapa Рік тому +4

      @@Tyrim I wonder how they're still in business. Keep and maintaining stock is one of the costlier aspects of retail. It's way, way cheaper to sell at a loss, no matter how bad it is. If they are holding products for that long, it's either a pretty small business with maybe half a dozen cards or they're not telling the full story.

    great vlog. last trip I made to taiwan was 2019 and also visited guanghua digital plaza. if you're planning to visit and buying some tech, its recommended to just buy storage (either HDDs or SSDs), RAM and motherboards there since they are cheaper than anywhere else - otherwise for anything else don't bother since you'd probably run into warranty issues (unless you checked this out beforehand). fun fact for viewers - until May 31 the country is running a campaign where lucky travelers can win 5000 NTD (or roughly $163), just in time for Computex visitors to get some extra spending money.

      Yes they do. To clarify, in most raw comparisons, the price to buy electronic parts is more or less equal. The problem is, I or most people buy when there are sales. The US is much more generous in price cutting, where in Taiwan a 10% off is rare. Of course it is a case by case scenario, but I would expect/wish the product to be cheaper near the head quarters, in most if not all cases.

      21% is crazy? lol I wish that was the story over here. Paying only 21% tax would be a real dream coming true here. Try to buy electronics in Latin America, you pay above 120% tax in some places + the price the retailer is charging, and they charge whatever they want, which means insanely high prices (sometimes over 20 times what you make on average per month). It's absolutely insane, things sell for double, triple+ their original price, and we barely make any money on average.

    2:43 Joe unfortunately do believe it’s not allowed to cook steak “to order” on airplane and everything is cooked on ground up to 10 hrs or so, etc…..prior to takeoff. So, the food is cooked 80% of ya for poultry and think 30-50% of way for beef/pork and then when time to eat the trays are placed inside a super sealed convection oven (that might be a pressure convection oven….just don’t recall, as been 20+ yrs since helped chefs cook/prepare meals for airlines) and after 10-20 mins the food is pulled and served in staggered batches so “kitchen ain’t slammed” and ppl, aren’t waiting forever for their food. Do remember the days when on some 747s, there were a few microwaves; which not a thing in todays world….no microwaves allowed in airplanes anymore, but just think about that one, lol.
    Hope had amazing trip, cuz the trip getting there and home is fun stuff and everything in b/t is the bonus extras you just find cool, awesomeness, and funner, like a double stuffed Oreo, that’s how describe traveling to “shows/conventions/etc….” For different areas of trades, skills, jobs, etc…..
    Cheers y’all L8R ✌🏻🙏🏻
