It is astounding the number of amazing comedians from Canada... it has to be much higher than the proportion of the population. On behalf of the U.S.A., we thank you.... keep 'em coming!
Lawrence Orbach is my favorite comedic character ever. I could watch a trilogy of films starring this lovely man, yet there are so few skits featuring him.
@FAB4 congratulations! you're a jackass. 1) you don't know what fascist means 2) we're a republic of self-governing states with checks and balances, not a mob rule popular vote democracy.
Johnny Olsen was the regular announcer on many gameshows. Blanche Rae Kellogg was a tribute to Ray Kellogg , a special effects artist and producer/director of films.
@@steveleeart I think one of the first SCTV bits I saw, he did this bit here, a gameshow with about six contestants. O'Hara kept guessing wrong answers, Candy insisted he wasn't hitting the buzzer, Moranis said he could run and get some tools to fix Candy's buzzer, Martin kept having stagefright with her non-English speaking husband. Seems there were two more, but can't recall them right now. The whole thing hinged on Levy starting out calmly and by the end was a screaming lunatic. It was hilarious. Then he'd do a Dick Clark on American Bandstand bit, I gather, where he was a total dweeb, and they showed a 'clip' of him from when he first started out in black-and-white and he was an even bigger dweeb of a different era. I think the next bit I saw that I recall, he was Igor, but with a deep voice and whoever else was there was commenting and all, then said smething about 'that smell' and they looked at him and he simply said, 'must be the chili'. He was so much funnier to me than Candy, Thomas, O'Hara (even tho she was funny in that game show bit), Moranis, Short (who I never found hysterical), or anything anybody else did. Andrea Martin was okay, but sort of in a Ruth Buzzi, Laugh-In kind of way, which can work, but his shtick just seemed so much better. He was like a much better Gabe Kaplan, who would just be too loud most of the time.
I was sitting the whole time through this thinking if Alex doesn't kill anyone it's a miracle. This was quality comedy. And I am from Europe and has only a very vague idea about who Alex Trebek is. and still I am confident, that this was a good spoof.
My first job out of high school: paper factory where I made boxes, among other tasks. When I was 38: wanted to become a psychologist. ...oh dear, something went horribly wrong! Oh well, at least I never wanted to become a circuit court judge or a professional hockey player!
This is my favourite SCTV skit and my favourite Half Wits skit. I like at the end Alex Trebel(Eugene Levy) goes crazy and tring to ring Arthur Andrew Ligit(Joe Flaherty)'s neck with the buzzer cord and the doctors take him away.
The clip that introduced me to SCTV very early one morning on the comedy network in 2004. Watching alex get carried off by the white suits had me rolling on the floor.
Hey, I used to watch that on The Comedy Network as a kid, man! I had an adorable sense of humour when I went home from school watchin SCTV on The Comedy Network! I loved Eugene Levy's black hair in this skit.
Google does have a definition for it... adjective 1. (especially of evidence in court) not accepted as valid. 2. not to be allowed or tolerated. "an inadmissible interference in the affairs of the Church" "DOGS MAKE 'EM!"

Eugene Levy and Martin Short are both from Hamilton Ontario Canada. Westdale Secondary and McMaster University grads. HEROES!!
Dave Thomas is from nearby Dundas Ontario.
There are even more Canadian comedians than Canadians.
@bobezzard7669 That makes utterly zero sense. 🤣🤣
Joe Flaherty is from Pittsburgh.
Alex Trebek had said on several occasions that Eugene Levy did he best imitation of him.
This was what, 20 years before Ferrell on SNL?
@이낸시 more like 40 years ago.
Between Levy & Ferrell, Gotta agree with Trebek. Levy captured his speech & mannerisms well.
@@PhilMante Eugene Levy is the best 👍🏻 he's funny. His gene shalit impression is right on the money 😂
He's dead now
Comedic genius abound! Never tire watching these absolute classic SCTV skits 👍👍🤣
Love how the guys in the white jackets were just off stage waiting for Alex to finally crack😵💫😂
Arthur Andrew Liggett was my favorite.
Just a sweet little guy in his own world.
RIP joe flarity
Amazing how they do these long skits and nobody breaks character.
Lawrence Orbach is my favorite comedic character ever. I could watch a trilogy of films starring this lovely man, yet there are so few skits featuring him.
Denty One Look up Ed Grimley, another great Martin Short character, not smart but sweet!
My favorite is Jiminy Glick.
According to a recent poll, Lawrence Orbach was voted the sexiest man in history
Lawrence Orbach was a regular dancer on Mel's Rock Pile.
I admire the fact he had certain goals in life he felt compelled to achieve.
I love how there are 2 guys in white coats on standby.
It's like watching Congress.
Hahahahaha.. omg it is

I love Eugene... lmao 🤣 he's hilarious 👍🏻
Alex is ever so optimistic at the beginning of every episode of Half Wits and then it goes downhill from there! 🙂
I never get tired of half wits!
Me too! Love the theme!
yes you do
I even love the American History bit. "Very good, Lawrence!"
"ARTHUR TURN THAT OFF!!!! I'll show you how! You won't be PRESSING THIS BUZZER AGAIN!!!"
"How are you spelling flower?"...LOL...love John Hemphill. Vastly underrated....and that IS correct, Alex.
Just the body language and way he said that made me laugh harder than I've laughed in years,
Dave Thomas is so underrated.
😂
I like his square hamburgers.
I love the reference to Johnny Ola. I wonder how many viewers got it.
i wonder that too. But I bet a lot of people that watched SCTV also saw the Godfather movies. It always cracks me up.
Johnny Olsen was the regular announcer on many gameshows. Blanche Rae Kellogg was a tribute to Ray Kellogg , a special effects artist and producer/director of films.
Eugene Levy really was the unsung talent on SCTV to me. He always seemed much better and capable than any of the others.
Richard Fuller he was always kind of the straight man although he could be just as crazy as the others.

Check out the clips of him playing Howard Cosell and Perry Como.
OMG it's Bob from Schitt's Creek too!!
‘A trick ball?’
God Martin Short is funny.
Thank you. Great show. Great video. What more could you want?

He nearly strangled Joe Flaherty's Arthur character.
"He's been doing that all morning call everyone Sir" lol
That character cracks me up that said that.
@@gregbernard7861 John Hemphill - he also played Happy Marsden on SCTV.

I gave a shout out to Half Wits on the SNL Jeopardy vid. Didn't get 1 like. I guess we are lucky to be in the know of this comedic genius...
We should be. SNL guys are losers!
I echo your comment!
Half Wits is a much funnier recurring sketch, though it doesn't have Turd Ferguson.
"Trying".
I love the little touch with one of Blanche's earrings being her keys.
I had to rewind to have a look - it's a brilliant touch!
What happened to her spider tattoo she had previously on her face?
Love Eugene Levy's hair!
"Thank you Alexson." 😂
"Dogs Make Em"
Lawrence is the same character Short did on SNL's incredible synchronized swimming short film with Harry Shearer. One of my all-time favorites.
I'm not a very strong swimmer.
Thank God for these people!
I love how Joe gets that naughty "I'm smart and you're dumb, i know something you don't know" look on his face so well.
Different Balls gets me every time. Also, this was Dave Thomas's final episode if I recall right.
I miss this show so much..."Um Alex...what does it mean to deduct?" Bwahahahahaha
I tried out for Half Wits once. They said I was overqualified. I don't know what they meant by that.
It means “deducted.”
Rest in peace, Joe.
It's a shame they didn't have the Periodic Table up on that board as a category.
8:37 I mean WHEN was he there!
"American History! Very good, Lawrence!" I'm sure, I love that category which the clue is what happened and the mystery item is the year it happened.
Now I wonder what happened in 1711. I don't remember anything around that year!
Sctv ruled.lots and lots of talent.
What does deduct mean, Alex?
That nose🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I am CRYING! 😂
Looks like Bill Needle after a nervous breakdown! 😆
That commercial with Dave Thomas is now startingly relevant with the COVID pandemic. I’d love to see Thomas in some contemporary comedy.
I love the look on Alex’s face when the Different Balls category first shows up.

SNL totally stole this idea for Jeopardy
Norm McDonald went to Eugene Levy to ask if he was okay with SNL doing their own Alex Trebek sketches based on his portrayal.
I think SNL decided to redo this sketch but SCTV as usual did it better
