    I haven't done this to my Jeep, but I have used these inserts and love them. I've found a uni-bit marked to the right size works really well. It doesn't tear the holes like a twist drill. Also, when you use stainless bolts, you should use Neversieze on the the threads to prevent them from galling. I'm not trying to be a jerk, these are things I've learned over the years. I have used many of your ideas and love your channel. Thanks.

      You are correct. Uni-bits are much better and I actually have a couple of sets. Reckon I was having a not so bright day by not using them on that project. I also agree about the anti-seize. Two dissimilar metal tend to not like each other. Those are 2 things that I should have put in the video. Thanks for leaving great information for others to learn from. Have a great day!

    Good vid...in the aviation world we call those nutserts “riv-nuts”. Just a heads up, a nutsert tool is also sold at harbor freight for around $22, they call it a “Threaded insert riveter kit”.

      I'l have to look next time im in there. All the times I've been in the different locations local to me I've never noticed the tool there. I already have both the small and large version. Thanks for the heads up. Have a great day!!

    Thanks, perfect timing! I'm planning on taking the hardtop off in a few days, and my channel has the same problem.

      Just take your time drilling those holes. They can be a bit tricky! Good luck and have a great day!

      Glad you like it! Be sure to use anti-seize on the bolt threads to prevent the bolts from seizing to the threaded inserts.

    I use these all the time .. They are great for the windshield channel or any where , where you are supposed to use self tapping screws to install something... I used them to attach the cam locks for my Sunrider top ...

    I put a good coat of RTV on the bottom of the channel before I tightened it. Just another measure to keep it from working loose and keep water out.

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  5 років тому +1

      Totally understand. That channel can be a leaking problem for sure!

    The tape is on the side it’s on cause as it rolls up the sticky side don’t stick to the top of the previous roll. I love your videos, outside of the box thinker. Two thumbs up!

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  5 років тому +1

      What threw me is that the paper wasnt sticking to the "sticky" part of the gasket. I used to work on house boats a lot so I've used this type of tape many times. The paper was always protecting the "sticky" side. This roll was different. None the less, it got the job done. Thanks!! Glad you like the videos!! Have a great day!!

    Love your videos man. We use these all the time in avaition (Navy) so I have a couple of suggestions. With the cracked metal it's safer to use smaller drill bits and gradually step up to the hole size. As for hole size, Rivnuts or Nutserts should be almost an interference fit meaning the hole should be small enough you can't just drop the insert in but you can lightly drive it in with a light tap or two. Trust me, when you're tightening the last bolt and it just keeps spinning, you'll know why. And last but not least, especially if you end up with a hole a few thousanths larger than desired, before you drive a nutsert/rivnuts into the hole they should have RTV around them to seal the bare metal, keep water out, and it's a little extra insurance preventing that insert from spinning on you. Looking forward to future videos. Let see you install some aftermarket gauges either tapping into the stock wiring harness or just creating your own gauge cluster harness all together

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  2 роки тому

      Awesome tips man!! Thanks!! That will help lots of people. I've actually been tossing around the idea of aftermarket gauges. I've got a CJ dash that is just begging to be installed, so aftermarket gauges would be a good complement for this swap. I've built gauge cluster wiring harness many times in past toys so that is a doable project. Recon I'll start researching gauges so see what will easily swap in. I have no idea when I'll start this gauge swap because I've got some other projects I need to get finished first. But, I do like the idea enough to gett'er done. Thanks again for some awesome tips and suggestions!

    • @Poweraddicts

      Still doing just fine. Just make sure you put anti-seize on the threads of the bolts to prevent any threads sticking.

    When are you going to do a video on the windshield hinges I seem to have broken mine is it able to be welded ?

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  5 років тому +1

      My other rig needs the windshield frame swapped. I havent gotten the frame yet so I have no idea when I'll do the video. If whoever weld them knows how to control the weld depth, yes they could be welded. Just dont accidentally weld the hinges to the tub or windshield frame. Also keep in mind that welding will burn the paint beneath the hinge.

      The rivet nut Setter Drive is also also good for replacing the threads for the undercarriage that protects the transfer case Shield

    Just did this to fix a very loose channel. Question for you if you don't mind sir. How far down should the gasket get compressed? I figured it would be flatter than it is. I would attach a pic here for reference but doesn't look like that is an option.

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  4 роки тому

      I tightened until the screws were tight. If you don't have the screws tight they will eventually back out. If the gasket material you are using isn't allowing that, get some a bit thinner.

    • @jamesmay4274
      @jamesmay4274 4 роки тому

      @@Poweraddicts , They are all nice and tight. Seems like a big gap on the front with the weather stripping. Figured it would compress down as you tighten the screws.

    You rock! Excellent video. Thank you for providing a solution to my problem! Questions: For my hopefully 'one time fix, can that tool be rented somewhere, or bought relatively inexpensively. It appears t be a costly tool, I'm not a 'Harbor Freight', guy, but do they have a 'workable' version of the tool? Lastly, who best supplies the threaded inserts? Again, I sincerely thank you, my friend!!

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  5 років тому

      I got them from Amazon. Soon I'll be doing a video showing how to install these without the expensive tool. I'll be shooting that video within the next week or two. I'll drop a link in later for the inserts I used. I'm answering this on my phone, I have the info stored on my laptop.

      In my other rig Ive got an 8.8 swap started. I still gotta do some other engine, trans and t-case mods to do before I finish it up. I'll create a video playlist dedicated to the 8.8 swap when I get it completed. Thanks for dropping in! Have a great day!

    Why run a gasket it’s on a channel it will not leak water into cab?

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  5 років тому

      Actually it will. I had video footage of rain blowing in as I was driving down the highway. I was gonna add it to this video but I must have had a duh moment and deleted it from my phone because I couldn't find it. Also by adding the gasket it keeps water from seeping to the inserts helping prevent rust.
