    Hi Laurence, I wanted to say thank you for uploading such a very informative video. I took my own car for my Exam at Crawley test centre last Friday and I passed first time. Luckily, i have done my MOT and fixed everything that need to be fixed 2 weeks before my Exam, even after I passed i still watching all your video again and again :) and did support your channel. I started learning later in life (at 57), and had only started learning with my instructor for a few months when the first lockdown hit & all lessons were cancelled!! Luckily I was in a position to buy an old second hand car (it was an 18yr old vauxhall corsa) in very good condition for it's age. So I was still able to go out & practice with hubby. Once lockdown was lifted, my instructor even came out a few times in my old corsa and agreed I drove it better than his brand new hyundi i10 😂 anyway, long story short, I passed my test first time in that little corsa. But it also helped to watch all these instructor videos on youtube. Although it's over a year and a half since I passed, I still love watching these videos, as every day is a learning process. Thank you 😊👍
    P.S. (I also thoroughly cleaned inside the car and had it washed on the morning of my test, so it looked really nice)

    Great information. About to begin to teach both my 17 Yr old and the Mrs to learn to drive using my C1. And would love to get them both driving to a good standard and passing a test with no professional lessons.

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  2 роки тому

      definitely get some professional lesson, there are often things people misunderstand about the test and/or rules on the road.
      A few examples:
      - Gear DO NOT need to be change sequentially, in fact it is frowned upon, block changing is highly recommended. So NOT 5th to 4th to 3rd to 2nd, instead 5th, slow to appropriate speed then select appropriate gear (might be 5th to 2nd).
      - You need to drive slowly on your test? No, you need to drive at the appropriate speed, so if safe get to the speed limit, might be doing 70mph on a 3 lane dual carrigeway (which they can take you on, many people think a 2 lane road is a motorway, and therefore will not be used on test, which is not correct, there are many 3-lane dual carrigeways all used on tests.)

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  2 роки тому

      It is best to have mix between private practice and professional lessons.
      Professional lesson to make sure you doing the right thing, and private practice to perfect them.
      Good communication with the driving instructor is often the key, so you are working together, not against each other (i.e. telling the student different things and causing confusion)

    Is it mandatory to carry an extra mirror while using your own car for driving test or will the examiner provide one at centre.

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  2 роки тому

      The gov.uk website says to bring one.
      But if you didn't the examiner MIGHT have one, but there is no guarantee, if they did not have one the test would not go ahead and you would loose your £62 fee.
      The mirrors cost £3-£5, so spend that or risk losing £62, plus stress of having to wait several months for a test date, plus even examiner did have one it is not the best of starts, it looks like you have not fully prepared.

    I just passed my theory test, and I’m trying to schedule the practical. However, I just moved to England, and currently driving with my foreign license. Am I still required to have someone with proper UK license drive me to the testing center, and do I need the “L” stickers?

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  3 роки тому +4

      Assuming you have a full licence from another non-eu country then you can drive for up to 12 months in the UK (starting from the day you become resident in the UK).
      Due to the above you do not need to have a supervising driver or L plates when driving to a from the test centre, HOWEVER on the actual test you WILL need L plates and a additional interior mirror for the examiner.
      You also need to arrange a course of lessons with a driving instructor to make sure you are driving to the correct standard, with lessons pretty much all foreign licence holders FAIL. Get in touch with a local instructor as soon as possible, as they are likely to be busy and might not be able to fit you in immediately.

    • @UKDrivingTest

      I would imagine it depends:
      - if the examiner notices it
      - what light comes on, how serious
      - how far away from the test centre
      - examiners discretion considering the above.

    Hi I'm learning my daughter to drive. She's taking the test in a year 2000 corsa b. She is insured as a second driver on my policy so would I have to accompany her in test as well as the examiner?

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  Рік тому

      If she is insured then that should be fine.
      The supervising driver does not have to be insured, but of course a good idea if you need to swap and 'take over'
      Only thing to consider is if she have major issues on test and 'gives up' and asks examiner to end the test, OR the examienr ends the test early due to extremely poor driving and a risk to the public, then if you are in the back you could drive you all back, if you were not in the back then your daughter and examiner would need to walk back.
      Of course the above should be EXTREMELY rare, as if you are taking a test you need to be ready, not just 'give it a go'.

      You only need your provisional driving licence.
      You don't need to prove your car has an MOT or anything, they will do a quick visual check before entering your vehicle, they can also check if it is taxed and insured online if they wish.
      But if you want to reassure yourself bring the MOT certificate, insurance certificate and proof it is taxed.

      No legally you don't need to take an instructor, technically you can take a test in your own car even if you have never driven before, at all!

      They use it to look behind and do their own observations, basically to make sure the driver is responding correcting to what is behind.

      @@UKDrivingTest many thanks. I wonder how do ADIs feel about seeing so many people doing private practise on the road now? Potentially these are people who needed to be learning with someone professional and with dual controls, possible additional hazard now.

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  3 роки тому +1

      I suppose in theory they would be more people doing private practice due to driving instructors being fully booked, but tbh I don't notice it.
      Also with private practice sometimes due to no duals controls, but more important not being a qualified instructors, the supervising driver takes it very easy with the learner and does not push they too far for fear of a collision. However sometimes the supervising driver expects way too much from the learner and gets the doing more complex things way too early, and it is not the lack of duals that causes the problem, but putting the learner way out of their depth and not giving the learner sufficient help or giving late directions etc etc.
      So I don't think lack of dual is the problem, it is poor route planning and poor instructions from the supervising driving, which is understandable as they are not qualified to teach.

      @@UKDrivingTest that's a very good point, and it's one that I've been trying to consider. I've been helping someone with their driving and we've downloaded test routes for our test centre from a website, spent a few hours planning each one by looking at Google maps streetview, and watch lots of useful channels on UA-cam (there's one called Driving Crawley lol). We have lots of print outs and sketch paper. Whilst I'm not a driving instructor, I have taught other things before so I can appreciate some aspects such as avoiding overload. I think channels like yours are really helpful for the student driver, but also for someone like me who is helping someone. I must say I always considered myself an "good" driver, occasionally looking things up in the highway code and querying things I was unsure of, but this exercise of preparing myself to help my friend has actually affect my own driving and the level of caution I apply to situations. I do believe being the kind of driver who continues the education after passing their test is kind of driver we should all be. Thank you.

      Some people do a smaller amount of lessons with an instructor and then do lots of private practice to put the instructors advice into action.
      They do this as it is typically more cost effective, it also gets them very use to their car, which they will be driving post test.
      As they have driven their own car more it generally makes sense to do the test in that car, as they feel more comfortable in it.

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  2 роки тому

      Ask yourself that question on anything...
      - How hard is it to get a 'A' in GCSE Maths?
      - How hard is it to learn to ride a bicycle?
      - How hard is it to be a car mechanic?
      It completely depends on the person, such as their attitude, level of confidence, levels of anxiety, coordination, ability to focus etc.
      Generally the test is easy if:
      - You are a focus person and can concentrate.
      - Care about road safety, and not just passing the test.
      - Don't worry about what other drivers are thinking, but just what you need to do.
      - Don't overthink things.
      - Have good coordination and memory.
      The test is more difficult if you:
      - Struggle to concentrate.
      - Are test focused.
      - Get anxious easily.
      - Overthink things, especially if you are too test focused thinking "Is that a fault" etc.
      - Have poor coordination and memory.

    My car has a thing where the fuel tank sensor seems to be broken and the car constantly says it has 0 fuel. The last test I took the alarm that no fuel is in the tank went off but he didn't seem to cancel it or anything. I did notify him before the test. I hope my next test the instructor won't be an asshole and say something about it haha

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  3 роки тому +2

      if they don't let your test go ahead it is not being an asshole, if the fuel gauge reads zero the examiner is going to be extremely anxious about running out of fuel and having to walk back to the test centre.

      My car was the same, the engine light was on even after I start my car. Then i went to the garage to check, they said nothing serious, usually this is because you stalled and it triggers some error on your engine light, then he fixed it. I was on my exam last Friday 11 June, everything was fine the first 10 mins, then i stalled again the engine light on, my examiner did notice and he didnt say nothing, we just kept going. i think my advise better take it to the garage and get proof from your invoice it has been checked and nothing serious just in case the examiner say something.
