I was the bassist and guitarist for the Motown group Jr. walker & The Allstars. One night back in the 80's we were doing a show at the Blue note in Toronto, Canada. This guy comes in with this blind kid and ask Jr if he could sit for a song. Jr said sure! He put the guitar on his lap and wow! Few years later i'm watching Roadhouse.. what the heck thats the kid who sat in with us...lol. Man i got some stories. A great talent he was. RIP. Best jam session are in Heaven!
You see guitarists move their bodies and contort their faces when they play, and you can tell some over-do it. But Jeff, being blind, has probably no idea that some guitarists do this, this proves how passionate he was when playing, in my opinion.
There are quite a few guitar players out there but there are very few in my opinion who generate pure passion into energy that u can feel and Jeff was one of those few. Thank you Jeff for your talent, your love of music and for sharing a big part of your life. Rip
Healey is scorching the Earth here. Such a shame he's gone. Just brilliant. This was from David Sanborn's music program...a master musician in his own right.
the show was called "Night Music" and was hosted by David Sanborn. It ran in the late 1980's and only lasted 1 season. Probably something to do with it being a show run by musicians for musicians. i saw Jeff in Omaha in the early 90's and he rocked!! THANKS FOR POSTING!!
I was lucky enough to see Healey open for ZZ Top many years ago. Unforgettable performance from him. Sometimes I wonder why we haven't seen more guitarists (with or without vision) playing a standard guitar across the lap like that.
I was a fan of Healey before this show so I stayed up to watch it....Magical!!! The best part was when Marcus and Omar REALLY starting laying it down and got into the thrill of the music.....Now THATS what music is about!
I saw a few times up front, too. With his atypical overhand method he could bend the strings more easily. Like grabbing a baseball bat. The bend can be a strong one akin to Santana's, say on his famous song 'Everybody's Everything'
A couple of weeks ago I saw a random video that said guitar genius and I got some backlash for criticizing the young guy playing. Some kook was trying to tell me I didn't know what I was talking about. Finally I said "go watch a Stanley Jordan or Jeff Healey video then tell me if you think this other guy is a genius". Needless to say I never heard another peep out of the guy. I feel like the word "Genius" should be preserved for people like Jeff that are obviously musically blessed..
@payuki I'm not an expert on either drummer, so I'll take your word for it. In fact, there's another video on youtube of this exact same footage, where the title of the video states that it's Jordan, so the uploader of that video (SzalonyJogurt) obviously got that wrong.
HAHAHA....Holy Mary mother of GOD! Jeff and the band, Dr John, ...just Balls to the wall and laying it down like a boss! As for the 4 thumbs down dipshits, go practice respect, or play your Pocemon and GO
We know who the bassist and pianist are (Marcus Miller and Dr. John), but who's the drummer? Some poeple think it's Steve Jordan, some people think it's Omar Hakim.
There are a few of these same videos floating around and everyone seems to want to know the same thing. "Who is on drums"? WHO GIVES A SHIT!!!! Omar,,,,,,Steve,,,,,Big Bird,,,,,,Wiley Coyote,,,,,Martin Luther King!! Jeff Healey is the STAR in this video.

This video made me tear up. It's just touching to see someone be in their element doing what they absolutely love. Jeff was simply amazing.
Healey is scorching the Earth here. Such a shame he's gone. Just brilliant. This was from David Sanborn's music program...a master musician in his own right.
The only guitarist Stevie Ray says ever challenged him, Now they can trade licks forever.
The rythym section sent Healey over the edge!!!! Incredible performance all around! Wow!!!!!

Probably the first main media exposure to Jeff, a forced to be reckoned with in the circle of Guitar Gods.
I was familiar with Jeff Healey before watching this video, but HOLY CRAP! Boy be tearin. It. UP.

Unbelievable is the word i use to describe that. But even that word is not fit to describe this. Jeff we miss ya man, good ol Canadian boy.
Absolutely electrifying, he is so moved. Thanks to the man for leaving a legacy.
truly one of the best of all time a lot of people like to say Stevie Ray was the best but I don't know I think old Jeff would take him
he was a premium talent
I was lucky enough to see Healey open for ZZ Top many years ago. Unforgettable performance from him. Sometimes I wonder why we haven't seen more guitarists (with or without vision) playing a standard guitar across the lap like that.
Rest in peace, my man.
I was a fan of Healey before this show so I stayed up to watch it....Magical!!! The best part was when Marcus and Omar REALLY starting laying it down and got into the thrill of the music.....Now THATS what music is about!

one of the baddest riffs ever. when i hear music like this, it fills me full of hope
If I had to list the two top guitarists that can truly make the guitar have a life of its own from the sound it makes it would be SRV and Jeff Healey.
Wow , amazing ! In this form nobody could compare with him. Not even jimi or SRV.
On my god - what a legendary MONSTER player! Respect! Goosebumps!
I feckin love him. At least he left something for others to aim at (good luck).
prawdziwa sztuka.....

The chair hump at the end was the best part

awsome!
at 4:37 when he start shredding i screamed "WHAT THE FUCK!" due to the fact that he is blind and he's doing that... its incredible R.I.P.

Yes, I saw the light.
EPIC Marcus
the thing that distinguishes him from other good guitarists is that he has his own style of music and guitar playing,
Omar Hakim on drums and is awesome as well. This version just smokes.
oh my God!!! I can't play stuff like this even If I'm not blind...
R.I.P.

I saw a few times up front, too. With his atypical overhand method he could bend the strings more easily. Like grabbing a baseball bat. The bend can be a strong one akin to Santana's, say on his famous song 'Everybody's Everything'
epico
Clearly Jeff didn't realize that what he was playing was completely impossible..
+skategangster His performance is simply off the charts and then he stands up and it goes galactic .. Unreal.
A couple of weeks ago I saw a random video that said guitar genius and I got some backlash for criticizing the young guy playing. @MarshallDawn yes
Fucking respect
@nick14orange that sounds quite plausible.
I think there is Omar Hakim, not Steve Jordan on drums. Am i right?
@payuki there's probably going to be loads of replies saying both.
@JoshRosenblumMusic LOL, Dr. John
at the start of the video... does it say Jeff Heavy or am I reading that wrong?
@rockerdude29 more like "daaaaaaaamn" :P
5 stars for GuitarLingus!!
HAHAHA....Holy Mary mother of GOD! Jeff and the band, Dr John, ...just Balls to the wall and laying it down like a boss! As for the 4 thumbs down dipshits, go practice respect, or play your Pocemon and GO
They were probably so eager to hit "like" that they clicked prematurely!
Does anyone know who's on drums?
better than all guitarists
We know who the bassist and pianist are (Marcus Miller and Dr. John), but who's the drummer?
Some poeple think it's Steve Jordan, some people think it's Omar Hakim.
japanese subtitles - wrong spelling of Jeff's name. Featuring Dr John - Marcus Miller - Steve Jordan
Jeff Healey is the STAR in this video.
with practice, he'll become as good as me :-)
If you can't see the light, leave this page.
