Over 31 years later and I remember this night like it was last night. I was a 15 year old who was obsessed with Jimi Hendrix and all things guitar. I was watching Johnny Carson as I did every night and went to the kitchen during the commercial break to make myself a PB&J. While standing at the kitchen counter I heard the best guitar playing I’d ever heard coming from the TV so I dropped my sandwich and ran to the living room to see who it was doing that amazing playing. When I saw him playing his guitar on his lap, I was blown away! I stood in front of the TV with my mouth wide open, unable to process what I was seeing and hearing. Then, at the end of the song, he knocked his chair over and started fumbling around trying to find it and I shouted *”HE’S BLIND?!?!?”* The very next day I went to the local record store and bought his debut album. Jeff has been in my top ten favorite guitarists ever since and I cried for hours when he died. I’ve seen Van Halen, Clapton, Beck, Santana, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan and many more in concert, but Jeff was the best guitarist I ever saw.
Kevy Nova, I saw Jeff play a short time before he passed, a phenomenal performer. He was the headliner at the 2006 Stevie Ray Vaughan Remembrance Ride and Concert in Arlington, Texas. Our group was lucky enough to go backstage and meet him, so kind and generous. Out of the 6 years that I attended the SRV Ride and Concert Jeff’s was my favorite. Deeply miss this man 💔🎶
@@Bluesbabesrv We true guitarists know that Jeff was on his own level of playing. I could pick out a Jeff Healey track within one bar of hearing, his sound was his own. Even Hendrix's tone grates my ears at time, but Jeff's tone was always on point and executed with skill and soul. Blind in his eyes, but he knew how to SEE with his music. Glad I got to see him live in London as a young aspiring guitar player. Master of modern blues 💙
I had the fortune of having seen him front row centre and THEN meeting him in person back stage (needles to say I was a nervous when my turn finally came to speak to him , but unlike most celebrities...he didn't let the fame get to his head and was really humble. WE had a nice conversation which entered around his guitar technique, he actually taught me a trick or two (are of charge). Man that was a night that was , I will remember that night for the rest of my life... a true musician and a genuine person - gone too soon (to paraphrase a MJ song) . RIP Jeff Healey.
I grew up in Mississauga, so i was very fortunate enough to have seen him play while still in the bar scene..he also used to jam sometimes in a bar called the Chicago Blues club in Toronto. Cool guy, got to chat with him for a few minutes just after his covers album came out.
22 years old wow amazing I saw Jeff Healey at a little place in Detroit called The Ritz August 27th 1991 one year anniversary to the day we lost Stevie Ray Vaughan remember that show very well rest in peace Jeff thank you for the music
@@vincentwhitley8197 Very true, I saw an interview once where Stevie said he loved playing with Jeff because he thought they were the only two who could keep up with each other. So sad they're both gone.
This is amazing for showing his talented left hand. He uses his thumb like no other and manipulates the strings in a way that would make Eddie VH jealous.
Saw this on the second night of my honeymoon! My wife was asleep beside me and I was so blown away by the performance I woke her up and told her she had to see this guy! Her only reply was " you woke me up for that"! Yea she's in my rear view mirror now!
I was lucky enough to see the Jeff Healey Band live twice in the 1990s. Never made a mistake, never failed to blow me away. Second time round, I got right up front because Jeff must have had the amps and PA at 11. It almost made your ears bleed.
You know it's serious musicianship when it's on Johnny Carson. Johnny hosted what the world should see... left no stone unturned, and as a drummer he knows genuine talent compared to what is shut out from today's entertainment industry! I also remember watching Jeff on this episode of Johnny Carson. Luckily I got to see Jeff in concert twice before he passed away. Both shows were awesome. RIP Jeff 🎸!!!!!
This was one of Jeff's best performances in my opinion. He just killed it on the Carson show. He is so good it doesn't even look like it's real. This was just mind blowing and knocking over the chair just topped it all off!
I spent a year going to school (for music) with Jeff. People would gather in the halls trying to peek through the tiny windows to hear who sounded like Hendrix. Of course Jeff did not return for 2nd year because one of the professors hooked him up to record and release a music video with his band. Never saw Jeff again.
Jeff was an amazing guitarist and IMO he was the Canadian version of Hendrix. His musical expressions and skills on guitar was just mind blowing. He was taken way too soon from us. R.I.P. Jeff Healey
I saw him at the Bean Blossem Booggie in Indiana in about i think 1996.Abate of Indiana's biggest biker bash.We were blown away and he did all his hits. At the time i had only one of his cd's back then.He had a following of deaf and blind people that were there for some reason. This woman we talked to explained that they were special fans and they followed him around.I asked how can a deaf person enjoy his music........she said......they can feel the vibrations in the ground and air.Well he is sadly missed as his cancer fought him to the end. I will never forget the day i heard he passed at age 41......so talented and so young RIP Jeff
WOW --- 30+ year fan of Jeff, but had never heard this particular version of "See The Light" until 5 minutes ago. Just LOVE every single second of these riffs -- the bends, the fills, the vibrato, EVERYTHING -- so cool and So Genius !! Also appreciate the camera work - well done to capture what Jeff was all about. Just mesmerized by this !!! As The Years Go Passing By.
So incredibly gifted this man was.. Glad I saw him live. On a Belgian festival late 80s. When he jumped up to solo the whole crowd went BALLISTIC. It was unforgettable! Thanks Jeff :D
I saw him with Clapton, Vaughan, Cray and Buddy Guy on August 25, 1990, 2 days before Stevie was killed. Seeing that much guitar power on stage was beyond memorable. I mark that show as a cherished gift I was fortunate enough to have, to have seen those legends.
I remember the first time I saw Jeff on MTV. His fingers looked like a spider dancing across the strings. It was magic. Didn't even realize the man was sightless.
Our ska band The Pushkins were booked for 2 nights at the Bamboo Club in Toronto 1984. A week before our gig , Jeff was performing. 17 years old at the time. Blew me away with Cream Hendrix Mountain cover songs etc..along with originals. Amazing guy. Gone too early. RIP
Music emanated from this man like an aura. Stevie and Jimi had the same gift. Clapton said it about Stevie - "he was an open channel and music just poured out of him". Jeff and Jimi were the same. There is one other guy who might have it. The Kingfish.

Mega8track, l saw Jeff perform at the Kaslo Jazz Festival years ago, he was so amazing, he played the trumpet that weekend as well. They played on the Bay and a lot of us took our boats on the water and enjoyed the music offshore, he was the best!
New Orleans Jazz Festival - He pitched up one night, trumpet in hand and asked to sit in with the band my dad was playing in - of all the bands - he chose a British Trad Jazz one - they all had an amazing night! XX

Jeff and Blue Rodeo came to town one summer night around 1995? Jeff went up first and then Blue Rodeo invited Jeff to play with them during their encore. They did Girl In Green. Great song but Jeff took the roof off. I was completely oblivious to everything that wasn't Jeff exploding on stage. Gobsmacked.
It's too bad he accidently knocked over the chair. He usually uses the back to play the guitar on. For real. It seems he thought he merely knocked it aside. Freaking Joe didn't even tell him that!! I first saw Jeff play an open mic at the old "Upper Lip" on Yonge Street. Probably around 1984. Even though he was immensely talented his sheer will should not be overlooked. He would take the TTC to Yonge St and look for open mic nights at every seedy joint downtown. Damn we even heard him playing while walking by the Colonial one night and ended up seeing him again! I saw him play at a little honkytonk called the Double Deuce in Missouri. It was kind of a rough place until Dalton and Wade Garrett came to town. It's a long story, I shouldn't get into it here.
I know Joe Rockman personally and I remember him calling on the telephone just before going on to say " Turn to the Tonigh Show we're next" When I saw him a few weeks later in Toronto I also remember telling him to buy a new Sports car cuz he just hit the big time. One of the top 5 five all time players to me
Put this man in the “Rock and Hall of Fame for crying out loud already!!!!! Canada AND USA!!!

Stevie Ray Vaughan once said that Jeff was the best blues guitarist that he had ever heard.
I can’t say which one was better, I’m just very fortunate that I got to see both of them in concert.

Probably because no one else except maybe Hendrix came close to Vaughan, and that is saying A LOT!
