That "uncool" guy is Jan Hammer, an incredible keyboardist and composer. He used to play these great Moog lead sounds back in the day with Jeff Beck, Al Di Meola, and others. He could sometimes make the synth sound so close to a guitar that you had to really listen to tell who was who. This isn't really a good representation of him but if you don't like the look of those "key-tars" then it's never going to look cool. What does it matter, anyway, the music is all that matters.
I also spy Tony Levin on bass. He plays for King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, Liquid Tension Experiment, and so many others. Amazing player. He also plays Chapman Stick like a mufugger.
There are many pretenders to the throne, and many deserving ascendants to the chair --- but there's never been a truer ROCK STAR and epitome of GUITAR KING -- and there is nobody more commanding the throne --- that seat is and aways shall be reserved for the Mighty Eddie Van Halen!!!
Rest In Peace, Eddie Van Halen. One of the best lead guitarists in the history of the world, a good lyrics writer, a good father to his son - Wolfgang-, and, a Legend of Classic Rock music. ☮️✌️✝️❤️
This made me tear up. He was so great and way too young too die. First tube amplifier I ever bought was a Marshall Plexi with a Variac Transformer. I tried so hard to emulate the famous “brown sound” but there was only one who could pull it off. We will miss you forever!
Eddie when he plays sloppy is really nice to hear sometimes because his wrong note combinations helped make him so iconic along with obvious other traits
This was awesome! So glad I found this. Nobody plays like Eddie and to see him having so much fun doing something he loves is fantastic. And best of all, he was one of the most talented, kind, humble, caring, compassionate people in the music industry.
Eddie is, was and will always be the most talented and gifted guitarist i have ever seen in person in New Jersey, August of 1986.. R.I.P. Edward L. Van Halen 🎸😞 Guitar Legend !

Ed had that GREASE in his playing ,Wolfie has it as well. There has much been much talk about his sound but I've heard him playing dry and the sound he makes is just as identifiable. Gotta love an original with loads of talent RIP Eddie Van Halen 🎸
Anyone else notice that the original inspiration for Hot For Teacher was off the Billy Cobham album called Spectrum a tune called Quadrant Four with none other than Jan Hammer on keyboards and Tommy Bolin on guitar?
I am kinda shocked no one has mentioned on this thread the musical connection of this jam to its inspiration. Having Eddie and Jan Hammer together riffing on and taking a detour off of the "Hot For Teacher" boogie groove is an homage to Billy Cobham's "Quadrant 4" which Jan duo'd with the late great Tommy Bolin back in 1973. "Quadrant 4" inspired many of Ed and Alex's double bass grooves....Im the One...The Full Bug and of course Hot for Teacher.
1988 for the Les Paul Celebration...Eddie's lil' tribute!! I'm still on the fences about those stainless steel frets my buddy here in austin has them...

Bass - Tony Levin
That's Tony Levin on bass, and great Jan Hammer - ask Jeff Beck - on keys. Be ashamed.
