Subscribed, thanks for this. When I was in high school, I hit a cross roads where I had to choose to seriously pursue soccer or track (2, 4, 800 guy). I chose soccer and went D1 and pro for 2 seasons - but what if I felt there was more support and future in track? That may have changed my mind. I hope my son and the next generations are given a more difficult decision to make than I was, because they get to experience this great sport more easily.
@@TheAthleteSpecial yeah, you would waste less gas to get a faster time, the earlier+longer the pick up the better the result. You can hold your speed but making the hold incremental rather than instant and make it longer(earlier) would be even nastier of a kick. Nice race
Spence almost in lane 8 on the second last bend😆. That’s gotta give you loads of confidence though. With a little less work to do at the back end you may have run a podium💪
@@TheAthleteSpecial it was the right move at the time. You had all the momentum. Just a shame it bunched up like that. Would love to see you sit top 5 in a race. Try out a different pattern. I’ll apologise now if you do it and fade hard😆
Watching this live was truly amazing, I was jumping up and down when he was making moves during the race, this man is my hero and motivation for running👑
I love 150 meter reps. We had a 220 banked indoor track in college and I'd do 150s with a 70 meter slog rest. Now they've rebuilt it and it's like 188 meters or some weird distance that makes trying to figure out splits even tougher. Been using xenduance all month using your code. Great stuff.
Congrats ! Good race ;) Your final 200m were looking as in control as your 150´s looked like. Very stable in your hips, relaxed face, good arm swing. The rest is just sharpening little by little while maintaining your aerobic base throughout the season. I would really like to see you running a 5.000m race on the track during your second part of the summer season. Maybe around August or September. On the one hand it will keep you motivated on keeping your base which is going to benefit you in the 1500m. On the other hand the gained speed from your 1500m training and racing during May and June is going to provide a good speed foundation to perform well in the 5.000m. A short training period in July should be enough to switch from middle distance to the longer distance ;)
thanks for these videos that have let me run through you vicariously as i fought a stress fracture for the past 3 months in crutches D: back this week tho!! and im glad to see u speeding up man, ur headed for some crazy shit and its gonna be fun to watch
LETS GOOO SPENCEEE!! Great run and glad you had a great time competing! I'm sure that feeling just reignites the fire in you and I'm really happy for you!
That montage in the beginning sprinting in the USA shirt was dope. You were flying! It's good that you are trying to enjoy the process/moment. How cool is it that you are traveling for races and getting into these competitive fields! You showed a lot of patience just sitting in the back but you really turned it on in the last 400m. You crushed Robbie! Great job.
Wow !! Very impressive, lots of maturity in your race management. Some of your next steps are in the head. Very exciting times to see your progress. Congrats
Congrats this is awesome to hear! I know a few months back you mentioned that you got rid of some lower leg/shin splint issues with some bandwork. I was curious what you did to strengthen your ankle and the surrounding tendons. Thanks and I really enjoy watching your vids!
Hey @ athletespecial Love your content. So I'm coaching my son in the 800m wondering what sort of pointers you could provide to get my son to 1:56 - 1:57 - He's run a 53.84 in the 400m thus far. Started indoors with a 2:15 and finished it with a 2:08 in a matter of 2 months. He is now at 2:06 but going through the 200m at 27s, 400m, 57/58s and 600m 1:28/31. What sort of workouts should I give him to get over the hump and drop below the 2 min mark - I know he can, just need that right workout that will perhaps build his confidence.
If you didn’t have to run so much in the outside lanes you could’ve gotten 3rd atleast for sure. Definitely in way better shape than this time. Just waiting for the King of Boulder to go crazy 👑
I did not expect Galen Rupp to sound like that. I’m not making fun but like he’s such a beast at running I thought he was gonna sound like Thanos or something, guess I stand corrected.
One of the biggest issues right now is that the enrollment for high track and cross country athletes is down . How do you get a kid to go out for sports when they spend most of their time on social media/ internet . Last year when the Olympics were on , none of the younger generation even watched them ..
There's irony in the closing statements when America, from a European/UK point of view, seems to draw talent into the NCAA system. There is no Pro team set up here and an athlete needs to make a breakthrough before being fully supported. It seems the wider issue is Athletics/ Track and Field on an international level needs to be made more appealing. The coverage from Citius etc and others is far above anything currently in the UK and streaming needs to be encouraged when TV wont buy rights. Coverage of any event over 1500m or the field events just isn't there. We need more athletes like yourself to tell their stories and show a passion for what they do. That can only force coverage to improve if the characters in the sport are showcased better. It's a stream of athletes looping round all wearing the same kit and the focus is on the top three not down the field. That's where the commentary also needs to be more engaging, drawing people into the action and linking back into social media to keep following runners, jumpers and throwers.

100% track and field is so under rated! I have to work to figure out how to watch meets or watch them later when someone posts video.
it's not even like it's only a problem in America. Underrated in UK a lot too and a lot of the same problems tbh
In France there is athletes doing the job on social medias.
