As embarrassing as not winning the division would be, at least it would force the hand of letting the Clowns go. Not sure the Saints put us out of our misery if DA goes to the playoffs.
I think worst case scenario they keep Allen. Under no circumstances can I see Carmichael getting brought back.

There hasn't been consistency with the offense. We have had offensive line issues, running wrong routes, QB not going through all his progressions...this is a huge coaching issue.

As long as we fire da and get a mobile qb idc. I’m tired of the pocket qb take a 10 yard sack stand in the pocket throw 3 ints games. What I just described was carr and wontwinston. They both suck bad. It’s almost sickening.
Carr finished 3rd in MVP voting in '16 and has 4 pro bowls. Winston doesn't even compare.
Carr, when given a competent OC and talent around him, has graded as a top 5 QB. He didn't get credit for it bc the Raiders had the worst defense in the NFL and went 8-8, but that shouldn't take away from Carrs play. He has the ability to play at a top 5 level. Like any QB tho, that isn't going to happen with an OC that has no idea what he's doing and one of the worst OL's in the NFL. Any QB is going to look mediocre in that situation.
Btw, scrambling QB's are overrated AF. The most successful QB's in NFL history have always been strong pocket passers. Plus their careers last much much longer. A scrambling QB could be good for a year or 2 and then boom, his career is over. Cam lasted what, 5 seasons of #1 pick level play? I mean, he also took advantage of that whole RPO gimmick that Kap and Foles did, so no one can really say if he would have been any good w/o it. In any case, he's out of the NFL less than 10 years from when he was drafted.
Saints best move is to invest heavily on the OL and get a good OC. Do that and they'll have an elite offense.

Loomis is not concerned about making changes right now because Dennis Allen blamed his failure from last season on the old coaching staff. remember Loomis is that guy who almost fired Sean Payton after 3 losing seasons if he didn't fire Joe Vitt. In the off season Loomis gave Allen the reigns to hire his guys and sign his QB. This is all on Dennis Allen ... the team is too talented to be this bad. The only player who is not apart of the Saints winning seasons is Derek Carr and Dennis Allen nor Pete Carmichael hold Carr accountable for his average play.
How do you have confidence with a coach whose is 20-43 as a head coach. Mickey Loomis be a drunk if he can't see failure.

With a competent OC there is no reason that we wouldn’t be passing for 200-300 per game scoring 2 td’s with passing alone. I’m all for getting Taysom the ball but he should not be the winning recipe to every game.

I cant see making us making the postseason and Allen then losing his job. The Saints scrapping the NFC South will be painted as success in spite of all the deficiencies we have seen. I think Carmichael will be the fall guy in that scenario. I hope Im wrong because Allen is clearly a terrible HC, I mean dreadful. I have watched so many of his post game interviews and he says nothing of any use, its just rehash after rehash of tired empty words. Carr is what he is. 32 and an average QB. Always has been average. Why did anyone think he would make us better? We are an average team since Brees. We bring in an average QB and Hey Presto we are still an average team! who would have thought it?

The only time in Carrs career where he had a good OL (or even close to the Ravens) he was a top 5 graded QB and finished 3rd in MVP voting (despite missing the last 1 and a half games of the season).
Had Carr not gotten hurt, he wins MVP that year, Raiders win the West for the 1st time in 2 decades, and Carrs rep is much different then it is now.
Ravens OL and defense is better than any Carr has had in his entire career. He would be dominating with them.
Hes a much better QB then Goff, so he would obviously be doing better then Goff is in Detroit.
KC? Reid WANTED to draft Carr, there's literally a tape from the pro bowl that has the Convo between Carr and Reid where big red tells him that he wanted to draft him, but KC's GM had just went out and got Smith to be the starting QB, so he wasn't willing to invest more at that position.
Carr has the potential to be an elite QB. The tape is readily available. Unfortunately he has been cursed with bad coaching for most of his career.
He was on pace to break the passing record by 2k yards and was graded as a top 3 QB, in the same season Gruden got cancelled. That was the 1st time in his career where he had stability with high level coaching and talent around him (and some would argue Gruden wasn't a high level coach. I think he was). Great GM? Not so much. But one hell of a coach.
Gruden was cancelled 4 weeks in, Carrs #1 WR killed someone a week later, and then his #2 receiver was injured 2 weeks after that. Combined with an OL that was the worst in the NFL for the entire year to that point, it's no surprise Carrs play fell off.
Directly following that, McDaniels the McMoron was hired, who wanted to get rid of Carr the moment he got the job. He sandbags the offense in the 2nd halves of games (team captains called him out on this, so it's not just a theory), all so he could scape goat Carr and get his own QB. Like a true idiot, he tried to mend the relationship with Carr after scapegoating him to see if he could convince Carr to come back. No dice 😂.
Now with NO, and easily the worst play caller in the NFL.....and probably the worst OC the NFL has seen in a long time. Combined with a bad OL and not much chemistry built with his WR's, is anyone really surprised why he isn't playing at an elite level? No QB would be. This situation gives Mahomes a down season, maybe the worst season he's ever had.
It is a well known fact that Carr excels at play action. It's one of the things he's great at.....along with pre snap reads, audibles, and deep passing. Those are his strengths. Mahomes strength is his ability to make plays on the run, and out of structure. What Pete is doing to Carr, would be the same as having Mahomes be a statue, and throw the ball away the second the play breaks down. That's it. It takes away what Mahomes is best at. You think he would still play at an elite level if he couldn't do the things he's best known for? Hell no. He'd be mediocre, or worse.
Apologies for the book, but fans should know how important a competent OC is to QB play.
That's why Brees was as good as he was. He had SP. Mahomes has Reid. Hell SP is making Wilson look good again. Yeah, it took a season and a half to do it, but it's there.
Which also shows that these things take time. If saints hire a legit OC in the off-season, Carr should play very well next year. If there's continuity after that, he'll get back to playing at a very high level. I hope it happens, sick of seeing his potential being wasted by coaches who don't know what they're doing.

I believe that if they don’t make the playoffs it would be better for them because we would get a new coach. Then, Carr gets absolutely hammered vs the Vikings, and you think that's him quitting? Are you high!? That hit was so violent I felt it at home. Carr broke his pinky in 3 places, came back a quarter later. Fractured his spine in 3 places, missed a single game. He's a tough dude, that's not quitting on shit. Stafford missed the rest of the season with the same exact back injury.
You think Winston is good? He doesn't read defenses at all. He looks for the 1 on 1's and throws up jump balls. That's his entire game. Whether or not he plays well comes down to whether or not the WR comes down with the ball.....which is 50/50. That's how you throw 30 TDs and 30 picks. QB's like that don't last in the NFL. There backups at best.
The reason Carr was struggling vs Vikes was bc he was actually reading the defense. They were running a cover 2 repeatedly that they disguised with different things before the snap. So Carr would expect them to do one thing, and they'd drop into cover 2 instead. Now, cover 2 is designed specifically to stop passing. There's 2 tiny windows on the sidelines called the honey holes that you can exploit, but it takes great timing to hit them consistently. Carr and Saints WR's aren't there yet. So, the smarter thing to have done, would have been to run the ball. Unfortunately Saints can't do that w/o Hill, and if they put Hill in, the Vikings wouldn't have used cover 2 to defend him. That's why it's so important to be able to run the ball with the RB's. AK could have feasted. He didn't bc the OL can't run block, and the coaches don't trust them to even try anymore. Ppl seem to forget that scoring points is also the running games responsibility, it doesn't fall on just the QB. Any QB is going to look bad if the run game isn't contributing TD's. No QB is throwing 3+ TDS every single week, and that's the only way an offense would average 21+ PPG if the run game isn't scoring TD's.

@@Cbane813WHAT!? Winston had an absolutely STACKED roster with the Bucs! The best receiving corps in the NFL, a top 10 OL, and top 10 run game, and a top 5 defense (in DVOA. They gave up a bunch of points off of Winstons turnovers, which gave opposing offenses very short fields to work with. Winston was actively making Bucs defense look bad). That's why Brady went there and immediately had success. It was a great team that was held back by a QB who did nothing but throw jump balls. If Winston was any good, Bucs would have been wildly successful with him.....like they were when Brady got there. Hell Brady threw 3 picks and no TD's in the NFCCG and still won, bc of how awesome the team was.
Now look at Carrs teams. Ok, only had a single top 20 defense in 9 years with the Raiders (it ranked exactly 20th. Raiders went 12-3 with Carr starting that year).
He only ever had 1 season with a top 20 WR (his last season there, with a HC that was trying to scapegoat him, so he sandbagged the offense in the 2nd half of games (it's proven, play calling completely changed after halftime, team captains had no idea why McD kept going away from things that were working voluntary, and into plays that the defense was good at stopping. Made no sense to them).
In fact, since 2000, Carr was a top 10 QB in the 2nd halves of games historically, prior to McDaniels. With McDaniels, Carr was dead last, a complete 180 vs the rest of his career. Does that sound normal? How does a coach take a players greatest strength and turn it into his greatest weakness w/o it being intentional?
Anyway......compared to Carr, Winston had all pro rosters, with future HOF coaching. Still couldn't read a defense and just looked for 1 on 1's. The only reason he lasted as long as he did in TB is bc of how awesome the roster was, esp at WR. They come down with a bunch of the jump balls, and Winston looks decent. It eventually catches up and Bucs get a chance to sign an actually good QB. The rest be history. Winston is where he belongs, on the bench.

Top 10 run game they actually was 14 in attempting to run the ball in the league in 19 meaning (they didnt run the ball at all) saying that u dont even remember the name of that running back. @@geoffhoutman1557Teams were offering multiple 1st round picks for Carr when he was with the Raiders. Raiders former GM openly admitted this. Gruden turned them down. That's bc Gruden knows he's a special talent.
Like any QB tho, he needs to be put in position to succeed to be able to succeed. Raiders rarely (and Saints never) provided that. The fact the saints offense is having the SAME EXACT ISSUES they were having last year before Carr got here should make it painfully obvious the problem is not Carr. Anyone who needs that explained to them is either a moron or doesn't understand FB in the slightest. The common denominator is Pete. He isn't playing Carr too his strengths, no play action, the least pre and post snap movement, all the things Carr is great at is being utilized LESS then any other team in the NFL. That means Pete is actively working AGAINST Carrs strengths. Whoever said great QBs can overcome bad coaching is on some BS. The greatest coach of all time said players cannot overcome bad coaching, bc the coaches create the infrastructure that the players have to operate in. That means they can help them excel, or hold them back. Pete is holding everyone on the offense back, and a terrible OL is only making it worse.
